Some team off the top of my head that were better than this years Athens team:

The 1992-93 Logan Chieftains with Wyrick, Lambert, Chief, Funk, Allison, and others that participated in the Division I state duals
The 1998-99 Marietta Tigers with 4 D-I state qualifiers, 2 placers, 5 SEOAL Champions, and 3 Runners-up
The 1999-00 Marietta Tigers with 4 D-I state qualifiers, 1 placer, 6 District Qualifers, 6 SEOAL Champions, and 2 Runners-up
The 1989 Warren team when they had two state champions and finished 4th in the state.
The 2004-05 and 2005-06 Nelsonville-York Teams.

I am sure there others out there also, these are just the ones that come to mind.

I think everyone is talking about this year . Not the past.

None of my comments were meant to be negitive in any way; clearly Athens is the best team in the area.

From what I saw of the tournament it seemed to run pretty smooth. I guess the electric went out earlier in the day to the score boards, but other that that it would seem that the Deno is getting tougher each year. This is a good sign for the SouthEast wrestling fans. Was talki8ng with some people I knew from other schools and it seems that Fondale from New Lex. may be considering retiring from coaching, he has had some very good individuals and tough teams wrestling in a good wrestling league w/Sheridan/Morgan/New Lex/John Glenn (Ibelieve)/ and I may be leaving someone out. It was an overall enjoyable finals. Good job the all and the Bulldogs.

I wonder if Kaizer would be interested in that job?

Kaiser has a good job and is very happy with it. The administration, the parents, and the student athletes have treated me very well in Athens. New Lex has a great staff and I am good friends with all the coaches their and many parents, but Athens has provided me with a great teaching job, paid coaching positions, uniforms, mats, facilities, and support needed to have a successful wrestling program and I am grateful for that. Besides I believe that my good friend Dave Ratliff is in line for that job and I think he is a highly motivated coach and teacher, and has a ton of support from parents and community.

Stilling was an old "behind the scenes" money making method back during the Great Depression. My Grandpa had one! :-D
Didn't know it was "still" in use today! lol! ;-)

That would be one fine fund raiser for a wrestling program.....j/k LOL!

Glad Kaiser is staying at Athens...he's done a great job with their program. :-D
