Re: Pfloyd's Elite 8 of Southern/SouthEast Ohio Preseason
Pfloyd, was just reading through the four previous pages and noticed your take on my alma mater - Logan Elm - and noticed the bump and slide defense and the under 50 goal. That is exactly what my high school coach at Logan Elm did! And that was 40 years ago! Coach Keith Merrin made us do the bump and slide, run and jump, and deny the entry pass. We WORKED on defense! And for every point scored on us over 50 we had some full gassers. I haven't been to an LE game in years but will do so this season - got to watch this defense!

Looking forward to my first Trojan game in two years, missed out last year in the dream season, but watched from a afr, like the post above, Defense us the key, will the Trojans have the ball hawking ability they had last year, after the loss of Bendolph at the point?

Excited to see Huntington in the Elite 8 in the preseason! I haven't been able to make it to a scrimmage or the preview! But I am definitely looking forward to watching the game @ The Tip Off Classic this saturday! What other games and times will be played that day?

Scarlet- You should be happy you missed the Huntsmen in the preview, but they'll be ready for the Vikings on Saturday and it should be a great game.
Westfall vs. McClain is the opener at 4
Huntington vs. Vinton County
Logan Elm vs. Hillsboro
Zane Trace vs. Lucasville Valley

Re: Pfloyd's Elite 8 of Southern/SouthEast Ohio Preseason
pfloyd- I might see you out there tomorrow. I've overslept it because of 3rd shift before, so it could very easily happen again.
Unioto 71
Madison Plains 62
I first want to give kudos to the officiating crew. They missed a few calls and called a tight game, but also, due to lack of officials around, they officiated all 3 contests tonight. Unioto's Cole Murray came out on fire and scored 8 in the opening quarter as Unioto took a 17-13 lead into the end of the quarter. In the 2nd quarter, Murray and big man, Chase Detillion each picked up their 2nd fouls and at that point, Madison Plains took over, but Unioto was able to cut it to 1 at the end of the half, 31-30.
Unioto jumped out to an 8 point lead about halfway through the 3rd, before MP started raining 3s and had a 45-44 lead through 3. Detillion and Murray dominated the 4th and would lead the Shermans to a come from behind victory to start off the season.
Murray 19 pts, 6 assts
Detillion 19 pts, 15 rebs
Andrew Warner 15 pts, 10 rebs
Adam Woods 10 pts(kept the Shermans in the ball game in the 1st half)
Madison Plains is a very solid, young ball club. Played mostly Jrs and they could be a major factor in the SCOL this season. Unioto's height and overall athleticsm is what took them over the top.
Unioto next plays at Westfall next Friday night.

Re: Pfloyd's Elite 8 of Southern/SouthEast Ohio Preseason
... traveled to the Zane Trace Tip-Off Classic to take in the Bloom Carroll vs Africentric game last night ...good basketball game to open with - wishing it was between a couple of teams Below the Lancaster-Dixon Line BUT I'm not complaining ... BC played an outstanding game - excellent game plan - played solid defensively ... zone on D/trying to limit the "quickness" disadvantage/limit the disadvantage in the "athleticism" department/ AND try to keep Africentric OFF the offensive boards to slow down AHS's "PUT BACK" game (2-3 zone mixed with a matchup zone of some type) => it worked!!! BC led most of the game only trailing by 1-2 points in the 4th quarter on a number of occasions in the last 3 minutes of the contest ... Coach Petty's boyz took the lead for good on a strong drive by Isaac McGlone from the perimeter to the rim with 5.6 seconds left in the game ... Africentric took the ball the length of the court, had a shot at the rim of their own - rolled off the rim missing wide left ... Bloom Carroll 43 Africentric 42 a final ...
... Pfloyd IMOs - Africentric ...
... speed/quicks at both ends of the floor ... WILL destroy TEAMS in the transition game, WILL destroy TEAMS who play man vs them, they are the real deal BUT (and we know there's ALWAYS a BUT) ... in this game their transition game was taken away, their ability to get to the offensive boards consistently was taken away, their ability to pressure the oppositions PG to get the easy transition basket was taken away... offensively AHS's perimeter shooting was horrible! 1-18 from beyond the arc => looked like the AHS offensive game plan was/is to score out of transition, throw the ball up from the perimeter then crash the boards to get the "put back" bucket (offensive rebounding was taken away) ... result -ONLY 42 points for the game, an 0-1 start to their season ...
...Africentric "Official/Unofficial" Napkin Stats ...
Scoring : Hossi Smith 17/ Trevon Saunders 7/ Black, Walls, Miller 4 each/ Harrison,Robinson,Dawkins 2 each
3 Pointers : 1/18 ... Trevon Saunders (1)
FT's : 7/11
TO's : 19
...Pfloyd IMO's - Bloom Carroll ...
... Coach Petty had the Bulldogs ready to play ... defensively BC took away everything Africentric tried to do offensively - forced AHS to shoot the perimeter shot for and entire half (a weakness for AHS) ... held their own on the boards limiting offensive boards by the Nubians resulting in ONLY 5 baskets in the "put back game" ... offensively McGlone/Schmitz/Ireland provided the scoring inside/outside ... BC has good strength across the board WILL lead in the rebound category in most games this season - McGlone/Ireland/Baker as the "bigs" with the guards James/Schmitz/Watts crashing the boards from the perimeter ... BC did an outstanding job on the defensive end - good communication/ handling the quicks of AHS/switching effectively => ANYTIME your defense holds a team such as Africentric to 42 points it's a WIN! ... BC will be a handful in the MidState League this season AND their young ONLY 2 seniors ... I want to give major props to the play of Isaac McGlone in this game - he handled the ball almost the entire game vs the quicks/pressure of the Nubian defenders, only a handful of TOs , IM took away the Nubian transition game by handling the pressure/limiting his TO's - GAME BALL GOES TO Isaac McGlone in this "W" for BC ...
... Bloom Carroll "Official/UnOfficial" Napkin Stats ...
Scoring : AJ Ireland 19, Joey Schmitz 13, Isaac McGlone 8, Evan Baker 3
3 Pointers : 4/15 ... Schmitz 3, Ireland 1
FT's: 5/8

Don't even think about adding Bloom-Carroll to the top 8 Floyd!!!!
You know the rules buddy ... The Bulldogs are one of those 'Nawthern' teams that don't own a 'Convo pass.'

... does anyone have a score for the Oak Hill vs Symmes Valley game from last night? ... saw that Oak Hill picked up the win BUT 80 something to 70 something "ain't" going to qualify for a "good napkin stat" LOL ...

Great night at Zane Trace for the SVC
Westfall beats McClain 45-43 on a runner by Neal Hegerty in the closing seconds to cap off a 9-0 run to end the ball game
Huntington beats Vinton County 63-49, behind a 16-0 run in the 4th quarter
Zane Trace beats Lucasville Valley 74-72 in double OT, when Tyler Hinty knocks down the game winning 3 with 3 seconds left, after tying the game with about 12 seconds left as well.
Logan Elm also defeated Hillsboro by 10, in a game that was closer than the final looks.
5 great boys games over the two days at ZT, 3 coming down to the final seconds and the other two games were tight going into the 4th quarters there as well.
