Re: WK 1 Belpre @ Warren
As in any game there were alot of positives/neutrals/negatives. Alot to learn from Week 1
Belpre Positives - Found a great QB in Sophmore Clay Ullman. 5 different recievers with at least 1 rec. 55 plays pretty decent number. Great Field Goal/Kickoff Kickers. 10 First Downs.
Belpre Neutrals - An ok running game for Ashton 19 attempts 55yds avg. 2.8yds. a play even though it wasnt a great performance he did pick up some first downs. Decent job with PR,KR excluding the fumble that happened. Secondary looks pretty decent.
Belpre Negatives - Although Packard had an average of 40.5yds punting after 6 attempts special teams is a concern with P an KO's. 12 penalties resulting in 82yds. O-line had a tough time handling the blitz's from Warren.
Warren Positives - Nice job stopping the long runs. Good Defensive Blitz Packages. Good KR's an PR's.
Warren Neutrals - Good TE, Running game was decent, Nice size on D-Line an O-line. 3 Punts avg. 38.3yds. 36 plays.
Warren Negatives - Excluding the TE catch no passing game, secondary played soft allowed big passes for Belpre. 5 First Downs. 7 penatlies resulting in 75yds. 4 fumbles resulting in 2 of them being lost.
I know its first game an these things will be fixed for both teams as the season plays on. Belpre looked good with the passing game really surprised in the new QB he made alot of quick decisions that showed in the game where a couple of times he had no recievers open so he ran for some key first downs. The playbook was def. utilized by Belpre an it showed with 5 recievers getting a rec. Ashton Packard has a nice target on him would be nice to give some more carries to Tyler Watkins to take a little bit of pressure off of Packard. Special teams has been a concern for Belpre for a few so hopefully that can be fixed. Little trouble trying to keep the linebackers from blitzing.
I also seen a little trouble with the centers snaps a little low alot giving the QB less time to execute the play. Nice hits that caused some fumbles for Warren. Warren didn't use there passing game at all really they did have alot of mismatches an by that I mean height difference but I really like our corners they may be small but there some tough guys that can tackle an defend well. I understand Warren has a young QB an he will surely benefit from all the exp. but he needs to get the ball to the big guys 2 WR's an TE. Warren lost the ball alot need work with that also.
They came out with the strategy to keep pounding the ball on the ground an that worked for them an it showed putting up 2Td's. Both team had alot of penalties that caused alot of yards for both teams the discipline will be worked on at practice though im sure. Best of luck to the Warriors. And from a Belpre fan Goodluck to the Belpre Golden Eagles 08-09 were always behind you. Keep your heads up an lets win this next game against Fort Frye at home under the new an improved lighting system.

I agree...... defense was solid all night. Can't keep giving the other team a short field and expect the defense to pitch a shutout. Keepup the hard work boys.. Beat FF

warrnwarriorfan wrote:Warren's line man-handled Belpre on both sides of the ball. All those hours in the weight room really did pay off! Good game, but the the score could have been a bit different. Warren had two TDs called back. Dunfee ran back the opening kick-off and it was called back due to a block in the back (ok). On a QB sneak there was a problem with the center/QB exchange, but Ellenwood picked the ball up and went in for a TD, the official standing 2 yards away looking right at the play signaled a TD, the official 10-15 yards away and behind the play threw a flag for "aiding the runner." You gotta be kidding me. Anyway, Ullman was thrown in the fire and did a nice job for Belpre, but Warren made key defensive plays in the secondary and put a ton of pressure on him to really control the passing threat. Cox had excellent coverage all night. Warren absolutely stuffed Belpre's ground game. Warren on the other hand ran the ball well (Wolfe as a bull), and played it conservatively with the passing game with only 5 attempts. But, the passing made a difference with the key pass to Venham for 22 yds on 3rd and 17. There is a lot more potential in the offense than was shown last night. They can open things up a lot more with Dunfee and Coffman and few more pass attempts. I expect they will continue to open the game up as Ellenwood gains experience. Really nice punt/kick-off returns by Warren (Dunfee, Venham, Pettit). Nice hitting by Warren. A little soft in the secondary, but MUCH improved over last year. The BIG bugaboo for Warren . . . turnovers. Warren fumbled 4 times, and two were lost when Warren was driving the ball very well. They were the kind of fumbles that kids make when they are digging for extra yards, but they just have to start covering-up the ball.
Good luck to Belpre the rest of the way. CONGRATS to the Warriors!
Philo and Belpre were pretty evenly matched in their scrimmage. Let's make it 2-0 next Friday!!
Go Warriors!
hahahahahahahha
i wouldnt go anywhere near the word man-handled
you better rephrase that one

Coach Schob of Marietta has so much class. I heard he's been telling his team to let it's play on the field speak for itself. He's not just about Xs and Os, he's also about demonstrating good sportsmanship and class. I wonder if he's getting through to his players?

week 4 will be a huge reality check
That being said, I don't know why Marietta scheduled such good teams to start the season. I would be upset it I was playing and saw New Philly, Cambridge, and Darby on the schedule. Marietta is not a powerhouse by any means. Put Morgan back on the schedule

Re: WK 1 Belpre @ Warren
Listening to the radio interview on my drive to the game got me very excited.... I heard Coach Pifer talk about getting his talented skill players the opportunity to operate in the open...
Wow this was a great idea and a no-brainer i thought...
After the opening kick-off I thought Belpre would be in for a long night of Dunfee since everyone saw him out-run everyone on the field... (5 touches the rest of the game)
Additionally, Wolfe was pounding the interior effectively which you would think leads to the next progression in the cross-buck sweep action, attacking the corners with the sweep... (Dunfee 4 carries, Coffman 3) Ironically Coffman's TD was a wide-open sweep with 1/2 of the Belpre D tackling Wolfe in the interior... Great Call!!!
I have seen the explanation of the conservative play-calling on protecting an inexperienced QB? 3rd and forever, on the most important drive of the game and Warren runs a play action (waggle) pass play? Did anyone think they were going to run the ball? How tough was that on Mr. Ellenwood!?! An inexperienced QB needs well-protected, well-versed pass plays early in the series to gain confidence... Plays he and his receivers have run countless times throughout the summer and during preseason... I.E. 3-step outs...3-step curls...1-step fades... 1-step slants... (none all game) I would have loved to see those Eagle DB's try to tackle Venham out in the flats...we saw on the 3rd and forever play that 4 of them couldnt bring him down until he got to the 'sticks'! but anyway...
Much improved toughness out of the Warriors! Warren appeared Stronger Physically and Mentally than in the past! The off-season dedication seems to be paying off, now lets hope all their work can be put to use... and get those talented skill players the opportunity to operate!!!
Go Blue!!!

Dunfee should get the ball more. Just not hand-offs. Too much speed there to not use.

Just like last year and before. Marietta plays a tougher non-conference than Warren but it hasn't helped come league time for either school. I guess to each his own, in the end it is still a 0 to 3 win season take your pick.
