... hmmmmm ... I have Unioto sitting at #8 to begin the PreSeason Elite 8 - looks like a good slot for the Shermans ... Fairfield Leesburg is at #16 - beating Unioto in the Waverly Shootout finals (I like the 16 slot for Leesburg as well) ...

Talk to some Fed Hock players, who graduated, this afternoon at the rec center, Floyd ... they think next years team will be really good ... Bonner at PG, Delbert Crum is back, Alfy Nichols looks great during summer practices they said ... Peyton Seel is a great athlete as is Ivan Santiago ... their JV team was really good, the only squad to beat Trimble JV (21-1) last year ...

just some info I thought you would like ...

Based on their play early into the summer I would have to move Unioto back to at least 14 if this is a representation of their future play. Sorry, not impressed, nor with Lucasville.

4 schools in my general area are now on a coaching search as of last night:

Chillicothe
Piketon
Westfall
McClain

Coach Meister has resigned his post at Chillicothe to take a job at Hebron Lakewood, which will be much closer to where he made his mark at Newark Catholic.
Coach Lisath has resigned, again, from Piketon. I still haven't seen conformation on where he will be next year.

My thoughts:

Chillicothe moving back to Division 1 will hurt their search a bit, but the name should still be able to draw some positive interest. They look like they will be solid again in a year or so, but it's tough to win in the Central District in D1, especially when you get little respect as it is.

I believe Piketon has had a number of assistants move on in the past few years that could possibly step in for the summer and keep them going in the direction Lisath had them going until they find a replacement, so I think they should be able to take their time a little bit.

The Westfall job should be filled pretty soon, I know they have had one coach running their summer programs and if they hire him, they won't find a more passionate coach around. And I've got no clue on the McClain job, but I say to give it to Dante Jackson and let him have a go at it.

This should all be pretty interesting in the next couple weeks.

I can see Chillicothe having some nice success in the SCOL, but I just don't see them getting beyond the district semifinals at best unless they have teams more like they did during their run of five district championships. D1 in the Central District is extremely difficult to compete in.

Westfall has some nice talent coming out of middle school and are about a year away from being a solid D3 team in the district. Piketon has had some nice success and I still see them being competitive inside the SVC and having a good shot at getting to the Convo.

I'd love to see Dante and McClain hook up for that proud basketball community.

Curious as to why you would say that about Valley? They are unbeaten this summer including wins over Vinton County (17 pts), Zane Trace (26), and Peebles (33). They also went unbeaten at at the Peebles shootout this weekend beating Fairfield by 40+, Unioto (10+) and Peebles by 2.

Leesburg won the Waverly shootout and Trace and VC are supposed to be strong. Valley is going to be very good in 13-14.

I was wondering the same thing.

IMO Valley is the best team that I've seen this summer. Unioto and Fairfield are also very talented, I think they were both missing some players at the Peebles shoot out.

Unioto has been missing 3-4 players all summer, but has competed very well overall. Lost to Valley and Peebles by 7 each at Peebles, but Valley put it on them on Monday in the summer league. Valley is the best team I've seen all summer and should have a great year in 13-14. I also look for Peebles and Fairfield to make some serious noise in D4 (if Peebles does drop)

Not to diminish any teams. But, Vinton County lost their best player to a serious ankle injury and had another on vacation. While I predict that the Vikings will be very good, they will be young. However, they are hungry, they are strong, and they are smart. Most importantly, we must remember this is summer basketball, so lets not start handing out post-season awards.

I am really excited for our Vikings, they are competitors and I will really enjoy watching them play this season.

...hawkeyepierce - I totally agree "this is summer basketball" can't read into summer scores/the who beat who scenarios BUT I do believe the good coaches (of which Coach Combs is definitely one ) get a lot accomplished during the 10 days of summer ... Vinton County sits at my pre-season #9 for good reasons - talent +size + quicks + defense+ coaching ... I look forward to seeing the Viking 2013-14 version ... I believe VC will be playing Logan 2 times during the regular season, throw into the mix VC taking on Athens (which I'm sure I will see at least one of those match ups ) - I WILL see Coach Combs & Co. a number of times thru out the season ...

some more summer stuff to chew on Floyd ...

copied from coach Skinners facebook page:

"Great day at team camp. Lost our first game of the day to Eaton and then defeated Northridge, St. Charles, Garaway, northwest, West Jeff, Delaware Hayes, Hudson, Bexley, and Zanesville. A very good day for Bulldog Basketball."

Floyd ... here are some dates you need to mark on your calendar.

Athens basketball 2013/2014

12/14 ... vs Logan Elm (at McAfee Gymnasium ... I'll save you a seat on press row ... quit hiding in the cheap seats when you come to the Plains!)
12/20 ... at Vinton County (this has been an annual game for you, so no reason to miss it this year)
12/27 ... at Orlando Florida (Disney ESPN Sports Complex)
12/28 ... at Orlando Florida (Disney ESPN Sports Complex)
12/29 ... at Orlando Florida (Disney ESPN Sports Complex)
1/4 ... vs Circleville (at McAfee Gymnasium ... bman says you have to attend this one as well to watch his Tigers.)
1/10 ... at Akron St. Vincent - St. Mary (sweeeeeet - a long road trip to Akron - we fully expect to see the Pfloyd tour bus their)
1/11 ... at The Beast of the Southeast in Chesapeake (hospitality room - nuff said!)
1/21 ... AT WARREN!!!!!!!!!
1/25 ... at Ironton (at The Ironton Classic ... maybe worth seeing depending on the other teams their)
1/31 ... Vinton County (McAfee Gymnasium)
2/8 ... Propel School Pittsburg Pennsylvania (will be the 4th foreign school Athens plays this year.)

* So I have you down for 9 Athens games Floyd ... lol ... would you like a green-and-gold shirt to wear during these events?

93Dog and pfloyd are going to have to travel together to save some coin on all of those miles. Lots of gas.

Love to see LE and CHS coming into The Plains to battle a fine Athens team. We'll see how everything turns out. Need to get pfloyd into some red and black.

...93dog LMAO !!! I love the T-shirt - they REALLY should do one of those shirts LOL ... A'town has quite a non conference schedule! (even excluding the 2 VC games) the remaining teams are a great test for the dawgs of Coach Skinner ... not real sure about playing a bunch of water sales reps from Propel - but we'll let that slide because of the ASVSM road game
