We're all in for a treat! Any time you can get a backyard rivalry with a league title and home playoff game on the line, it's an awesome thing!!! This year, we all get that type of game! In fact, this is the 2nd time in three years that we get that type of game.NewEra wrote:You're in for a treat. :122249Burg_Grad_77 wrote:I don't. After seeing both play I think the Valley defense will be to much for the Falcons. Hopefully I'm wrong and it will be a 3 way tie, but I doubt it.

This one was pretty far off.siderman wrote:The only SOC game that Portsmouth MAY win is Valley.

This one missed the mark.SPAMONY wrote:I am sorry guys but the only thing Valley will be competing for in the SOC next year is Last Place.

As was this one....siderman wrote:Valley has a good program going. But what FBNUT said is right on. Valley had maybe it's most talented class ever go through. The 8th grade class has the athletes to play a similar style as this year. The classes in the middle don't. IMO Valley will struggle for the next couple years.

Blind squirrel has a mouth full.WildWestSider wrote:Success is year after year fielding playoff caliber teams and winning SOC championships. And no one can say that Pirates and Siders have not dominated overall in the past 50 years. With saying that, it doesn't mean another team can't have a year like that. But winning it one year and going to the playoffs doesn't make you a contender the next years to come, and it sure doesn't make you a powerhouse. Even a blind squirrel finds a nut every now and then.starbase_318 wrote:fbnut wrote:your going to have to prove to many that your success wasnt just because of one great class. Winning the league this year really helped but it didnt help that you beat maybe the worst team the burg has feilded in 40 yrs and that they still gave you all you wanted for 3 quarters. the size thing will vary some yr to yr it wasnt long ago that valley was larger than the burg #'s wise.
I don't disagree with your comments but I do take exception to those morons who post on here saying Valley can't hang with the top teams in the league. BTW, how do you define success?

20-14...SPAMONY wrote:Hey if you want to hang your hat on 1 game over 500 and say WE HAVE ARRIVED or WE ARE COMPETETIVE then by all means do so. Just dont expect anyone to give creedence to it. another telling factor will be valleys record one year from today. i predict 17-17 possibly 16-18. Thanks for the stats! Helped me prove my point

The one is a little off too.luvbigcats wrote:With what I have seen from West in their two scrimmage games I am going to put them in the top spot.
1) West 5-0
2) Burg 4-1
3) Waverly 3-2
4) Minford 2-3
5)Valley 1-4
6) Northwest 0-5

Surprise!Bleeding Red wrote:I see West winning the SOC this year. Alot of skill players and lineman on both sides of the ball coming back.
I think Burg will get hammered against Ironton next week (very good team) and will rebound to improve the rest of the year with a loss to West.
Minford and Waverly will be in the same boat. Minford has good skill kids and a good line. Waverly will have one of the best QB's in the area but we will have to see how well the line protects him, if the receivers are there to make plays and if the running game is good enough this year to keep opposing defenses from keying on the Qb. With a few things going their way they can compete with both Burg and West.
Valley lost nearly all their playmakers as well as key players on their line. I am not sure how some people think they are going to rebound strong from that, I dont see it happening. I would be surprised to see them go 3-2 in conference play with 2-3 or 1-4 being reality. They will be i the same position Oak Hill was in last year after losing so much talent.
I will not even comment on NW. I dont think they will be very competitive in the conference.
Nothing surprises me in high school football. But that is how I see it playing out this year.

You all can blame the NFL for this terrible slate of 4:25 games for my decision to go through this thread and bump all these posts.

Ill eat my crow. Valley is very deserving of the gold football.
My only advice would be to enjoy it. Runs like their on are few and far between.
