Well if he is living up to his word, it's quite sad, because I heard he doesn't make the kids stay and that football weights are a joke. Coach Rhea's basketball weight program is 10x harder than the football program is what I've heard.

Are you in an administrative position to make this call or have any influence?Kentucky Trojan wrote:He is not even in the top 5 candidates for the position.Trojan Man13 wrote:Heard a RUMOR that Greg Estep has called the AD... Not sure if it is true or not. Let's hope it is....

The Portsmouth City Schools have a moral obligation to hire the person who is the best mix of classroom teacher and football coach, if they go outside the current staff.

I like Coach Newsome, I just feel like KY Trojan is not doing any favors with his constant rambling postings.

Please don't tell me that they are not lifting until after a new head coach is named.

Well right now no one can lift until the end of November anyway. There is a mandatory 4 week layoff after the season. I'm sure the guys you have mentioned that are teachers in the building will be working out with the kids once that time is over.

Is that a state mandate?55Buckeyes98 wrote:Well right now no one can lift until the end of November anyway. There is a mandatory 4 week layoff after the season. I'm sure the guys you have mentioned that are teachers in the building will be working out with the kids once that time is over.
I can't find the rule concerning that.
Do you have it?
Thanks.

Has Estep ever been a head coach or an assistant coach at a public high school?Runner00 wrote:Are you in an administrative position to make this call or have any influence?Kentucky Trojan wrote:He is not even in the top 5 candidates for the position.Trojan Man13 wrote:Heard a RUMOR that Greg Estep has called the AD... Per pages 18-19 of the OHSAA football rules, there must be a 28-day no-contact period after the last game.

Wow...This topic is hard to read.
As someone outside the program, I think the best choice is to bring in someone young that is from Portsmouth. I am not saying that Greg Estep is the answer, but someone similar to that is the best choice in my opinion. I truly believe that you need to find someone that people will be patient with and someone who doesn't have plans to use the PHS job as a stepping stone. I use the current situations at Valley and Minford as great examples. Both schools have graduates running their programs, and both are very successful on the local and regional scene. Coach Crabtree took over Valley in 1990 and I believe he was 25-26 years old. He went 3-17 in the first 2 years, but the community supported him and he is 175-48, with 10 league titles, 7 playoff births, and 4 regional final appearances since.
I think Portsmouth should go with a young graduate that can relate to the kids. The Trojans are a sleeping giant, they just need some fresh blood to wake them up.

Haha when did I say anything close to the next head coach needing to have played with me? Yes as I stated I believe there are qualified candidates from within. Duncan would make an excellent choice in my oppinion. I hope the school and comunity will give him thier full support if given the opportunity.Kentucky Trojan wrote:Trojan_FB_Alum, is Duncan OK for Portsmouth's next head coach or is he a no-go because you didn't play with him at Portsmouth?
Hate to be a bummer to ya but I'm much better friends and closer to Ad and Cd then I am beef. Lol
