and it would have been worse with Jackson. they are just too big for the soc/ovc. I'm sure that would not keep ironton from playing them. but it's just a fact.

the Jackson ironmen are in the same situation now that ironton has been all these years. looking at being independent. but it was very good for ironton.

Normally I'm an optimist, but there hasn't been anything to make me feel good about the upcoming 2015 season for my Trojans. I am excited about Aaron Duncan as our new football coach.......Aaron is a quality person and knows football, but unfortunately he is taking over a program that has gone 21-49 the last 7 years. Portsmouth had more wins vs. SEOAL teams in that period of time than they had vs. Wheelersburg, Ironton, and West. Those 3 schools are all smaller than the SEOAL schools. Personnel wise, the Trojans lost their 3 best playmakers, Alex Dickerson, Sky Oliver, and Darion Robinson. It will be extremely difficult if not unrealistic to replace those 3 kids.

It will take Coach Duncan time to turn things around, but how much patience the Trojan faithful have we shall see. I do know he will give his heart and soul into turning our football fortunes around, but like any football program, how much time the kids put into training is a crucial element to success on the gridiron.

bRuIsEr wrote:First all you heard is ironton will dominate every sport in the ovc, NOT. They didn't win basketball, baseball, or track. Ironton has a great past, but people wanna say it's their in better shape, better coached, and so on. But we all know ironton has always had the superior black student athletes that no one else has had around here. Nothing wrong with that it's just life. Go back to Alfonso Johnson, bobby crockel, gabe Lewis, terry royal, Dennis bacon, bobby Brice, delandal Conwell, Jason Harmon, jermon Jackson, Marcus Williams. Many Im sure I missed I apologize. Hard to find those great backs now with the numbers as small as they are around here. And YTB , if coaches around here practiced kids that hard like you mentioned, they would be called in for child abuse or let go because they are too hard on mommas little boy. It's sad how the times have changed.

No one is saying Ironton will dominate the OVC overall they are saying Ironton will dominate football which is the case. Everywhere else this is a good league and fit for Ironton and Portsmouth in all sports except football.

great post by one of my favorite posters. I hope as well that the mighty Trojans get to hitting on all cylinders again.it seems like everybody wants some of Portsmouth and ironton now. but I have confidence in both of these staffs.

Ironton will keep the pancake KY teams forever. They get too many points to just stop playing those games. However I can't see how that will help now that they are in a sub par conference. Ironton may dominate but they will have the work cut out for them come playoff time. That many weak games will get one's hopes up and then get demolished week 11. My to early to tell guess will be basketballs out after week 11.

Ironton will go past week 11 this year IMO.

I don't see any other option for ironton, other than being independent. as you can see we have an opening this year as an independent. they'll show people. and there is really nothing they can do about the league situation. that has to fix itself. ironton needs to keep a very aggressive OOC schedule.

Has anyone heard what is happening to the CG head coaching job? I know the other link is missing now I guess because everyone went nuts on it. I heard the next meeting is not until June 2nd or 6th.

I can't believe that situation has not been resolved. the grovers get a no nonsense hard nose coach in there that keeps attitudes in check, they'll be a hard out.

We all saw it last year. They play those weaker schedules and everyone thinks they are better. Read the thread from week 12. They got sooooooo much better from week one. It didn't happen. Yes they beat Martins Ferry but they could not play at the next level. I am jus saying. I love when Ironton has a good squad. But they have to be tested to get to the next level throughout the season. Ashland and Raceland aren't going to do it. They always played a tough schedule before. They would thump on anyone around here. But for some reason a guaranteed win is more important than being a solid contender in the region. Idk. What do I know, I'm named after a donut shop.
