Re: (poll) Pfloyd's Elite 8 (final edition) - Tournament Thr
... the committee of one - me - met tonight to begin putting together the Pfloyd's Elite 8 of Southern/SouthEast Ohio - 2013-14 PreSeason ... have tentatively settled on the 1-20 Top Teams Below the Lancaster-Dixon Line ... the committee looks to have the rankings out Wednesday evening before the State Tournament gets underway Thursday morning ...

Re: (poll) Pfloyd's Elite 8 (final edition) - Tournament Thr
... in NO ORDER these teams are in the mix so far : Portsmouth, Athens, Logan Elm, Miami Trace, Minford, Warren, Logan, Lucasville Valley, Southeastern, Unioto, Zane Trace, Trimble, Fairfield Union, Fairland, Vinton County, Chesapeake, Symmes Valley, Eastern Brown, Waverly, Wheelersburg, South Gallia, Meigs ... other teams needing to be considered for the rankings ??? daniC , I92, 93dog, Tribemaniac anything for the committee to consider ????

Re: (poll) Pfloyd's Elite 8 (final edition) - Tournament Thr
Jordan Barr is a pretty good player for Fairfield Union, but they lose a couple of pretty decent complimentary pieces.
And you can put Circleville on the dark horse list.

The team/players that was on the court for Nelsonville-York when it beat VC in McArthur - 4 of them were underclassmen.
Top 20? I don't know ... but 2014 'sleeper"? Definitely.

No, but I could get back on the 'Tornado' train next season ... which I'm sure Floyd would just love ... LOL.
Southern had one senior on the roster (Adam Pape - and he injured his knee and din't play the second half of the season.) It all depends on 6-foot-7 Chandler Drummer ... if he committs to playing basketball and starts giving 100% - the Tornadoes will be tough with sophomore Tristen Wolfe, one of the top players in the Hocking, returning as well.

PFloyd, do you think the club level seating is better than the entry level seating at the Schott & why? I know you have attended a lot of State tournament games, so I thought I would ask someone who has experienced.

79statechamps - the last time I attended the state tourney was 2002 ... I can't get off work during the week so those Th/Fri games - the ones I would like to see usually I can't go to ... the ticket I had for 2002 were Club level near mid court (205 section) - I thought they were great seats - better than the Entry seating? I would have liked the Entry level seating IF I could have gotten tickets in the mid court area toward the top (I like that view better than being down near the floor - my preference for cheap seats I suppose LOL) ... sorry I'm not the expert you were looking for - wish I could help you more

... daniC - absolutely on FU ... losing both Stewart and Greene are BIG losses personnel wise for FU ... Barr at PG is a good centerpiece for FU however ... I never had the opportunity to see the Roundtown boyz of Circleville this past season - I take it they will have a crop of youngsters (this season) coming back with a good year of experience under their belts ? ... I haven't checked my notes on Washington CH or Hillsboro as yet - I need to do a little more digging before Wednesday evening ... Paint Valley? Huntington? Westfall ? any promise for next season ?

If I had to do a TVC top 8 ... this is what it would look like I think ... these are just off the top of my head ...
1. Athens (pretty obvious - almost everyone returns)
2. Nelsonville-York (Emmitt Reed, Josh Fayette, 6'3 Kolt Adams, Jay Elliott, 6'3 Cannon Kilbarger, 6'3 Ryan McManus)
3. Vinton County (Alex Owings, Levi Boring, Jordan Albright, Sean Caudill, Chase Wood)
4. Trimble (everyone returns plus a JV team that went 21-1)
5. Southern (everyone returns except Pape)
6. Meigs (lost a lot - but returns Sheets, Phelps, Jordan Hutton and Damon Jones)
7. Alexander (has everyone back but Braden Jones, Jared Jeffers)
8. Federal Hocking (actually returns a lot ... Delbert Crum, Alfy Nichols, Cliff Bonner, Peyton Seel - and their JV team was good - they were the only team to beat Trimble this year.)

... 93dog ... Wahama with their seemingly yearly football run into the playoffs will always be a 2nd half of the season team - hard to rank them UP but I will look over their roster from your TVC website - thanks ... I talked to Coach Helber today 93dog - looks like Logan is joining the TVC next year BY THAT I MEAN on their schedule will be 2 games with Vinton Co. , 2 games with Wellston, 2 games with Athens ??? ... hmmmmmm SEOAL schedule of home & homes with Warren/Portsmouth/Gallia/Jackson - almost as many TVC games as SEOAL games ! ... Sheridan is on the schedule for 2 games out of the MVL ... dropped Newark ... I'll have to see if I can get a complete 2013-14 schedule ...

Re: (poll) Pfloyd's Elite 8 (final edition) - Tournament Thr

You throw out a 'tie' and I think I'll just go ahead and puke ...

LMAO ... NO "ties" in the Preseason rankings LOL ... you do have the 1,2 pegged though - not that THAT would have been a tough call LOL ... I just look at "preseason" rankings as a "good" starting point to BEGIN the 2013-14 rankings when the regular season starts ... that first 2 weeks of the regular season has a lot of "fluidity" ...

Curious of all the years you've had the Elite 8 ... has anyone ever went wire-to-wire like Ironton has?
did Portsmouth do it last year?

PFloyd I cannot allow my buddy 93Dog to lobby all by himself. Just saying that 3 big guns returning and a trip to "The SCHOTT" through in a undefeated 21-0 JV team and I think the BIG BAD BLUE make a strong case for that coveted #1 spot. Athens is very good indeed but they do have a short bench and they are losing a nice 3 point shooter. All I'm saying if Duke returned their top 3 scorers from a team that went to the Final 4 they'd be preseason #1. At the end of the day it's about the rings baby and the Warriors got 4 of em this year.

WarriorBlue - no worries ! the committee of one - me - I can not be influenced by 93dog especially after he pointed out that a Purple Teletubby with a "head handle" looked like a Purple Hippo - he was wrong! LOL ... the committee has the top 8 set ... after the top 8 when you get to the TreeHuggers the committee is fairly good down through 25 ... other remaining teams down to the 72nd position will be End Table Teams until the regular season draws close in November/into the first week of the regular season ...

Athens won't have a short bench - but I don't want to give out any scouting info over the internet ... lol
One thing to keep in mind is the 'growth' that occurs in freshmen - and sophmores as they become juniors ... its why college scouts always start evaluating a player more seriously during their junior year - they have reached 'young adulthood' at that stage ... Burrow, Leuhrman x2, Watson, Saltzmen ... next year they may not look anything like the 'kids' you seen on the court last Thursday vs Warren.

BTW ... take away Leffingwell (14 pts vs Athens) ... Yabs (ball handling duties) ... Pannell (very good athlete) ... The team that was on the court during 'crunch time' for Athens in the game with Warren are the exact same five you will see on the court next year.
