91blue14,

I would say they have a 3-7 season with the schedule they play this season. :-D

I can see Gallipolis (Gallia Academy) D4 wins come against The Plains Athens D3, Point Pleasent, WV Class AA and Wellston D4. All non-league games :!: :-D

Maybe I will be proven wrong who knows.

But, I cannot see your Blue Devils winning an SEOAL Football game this season :!:

Not with the Blue Devils schedule and the young team they have this season. :-D

Anyway

Best Success :!: :-D

Point PleasAnt.

"Pleasent" is not even a word.

You could at least learn to spell the town name right if you are going to degrade my school in every single Gallia Academy post that you make.

Sorry I am not from WV. No I think the Blue Devils have potential but will be a young team this year with a very difficult SEOAL schedule. But I see them winning against your Team across the River.

Ok, they're young and we have an experienced team coming back (entire team minus 4-5 kids) so it's not going to be a 49-14 blowout like you seem to indicate. Give us a little more credit than that. This isn't some series that Gallia owns by 25 games - they have it by four or five games.

We have a new coach that has a year under his belt, great weight program, plus year round commitment from our kids has turned our program into one that people are looking highly at in this state because they know what kind of potential football program lays in this town. There's a reason that people are predicting a sub .500 team to be one of the top five teams in AA this year. I know WV football isn't as good as Ohio football, so don't spare me that lecture either, I'm just saying that we're a consistently top 4-top 10 ranked team on everyone's early predictions and that doesn't happen if you don't show "something" to people. We had our ups and downs last year, obviously started with two downs but it picked back up. We played previous AA state champion Wayne in a great game over here at our place, we were the ONLY teams on Meigs' schedule to hold Cornelius English to less than 100 yards (20 something rushes for about 70 yards), so on and so forth. Did we expect more improvement? You bet, but as someone who has watched all but about 3 games since 1999, last year was WORLDS better than the previous two years and the improvement was there in every single game from every single kid.

We're not a bad football program. We had our down years like everyone does but we're getting back to where we were.
We used to have a pretty good football program here under Coach Safford. Like I said, everyone returning plus a kid who is getting D-1 hype who isn't even done with his sophomore year (Allan Wasonga - 5'9, 180 pounds, 4.56 40 and "Ultimate 100 MVP", was called the "most versatile kid at the camp" by Rivals.com in their article about the camp two weeks ago).

I think we'll be just fine on August 29th. Just fine.

You don't count any one out!!! This is a new season who knows? I remember a team in the 70's that was picked for 7th in the SEOAL , 8 team league. They went undefeated!!! Times change we all know this, but hard work in the off season pays off!!!

As for his prediction about GAHS football this year, he should spend more time with his own team. At BEST I see Chillicothe 4-6 with 3-7 likely. He lives to rag on other school's schedules, but CHS's non league schedule this year will be winless for the Cavs, and you dont get a single computer point for losing to anybody.

Ive been saying on here to him that he hasnt been around long enough to appreciate the PP-GAHS rivalry; one of the longest in this region. He also fails to consider that as gas prices continue to rise, mileage between game sites will be even more crucial in scheduling. And finally, he has no clue what a cross-river rivalry means to both communities in every way. But then he doesnt care about facts. He just loves to tear down. I believe Ive seen where you say the continuation of this series might be in jeopardy in the future because of scheduling conflicts at your school and within the league and other commitments. I hope there can be a way to keep it going. I, for one, have an appreciation of how strong a program Point has had over the years, and I know that any down cycle doesnt last forever.

GBB,

Consinder the source. At best the French City Team on the river in the SEOAL might win 1 SEOAL game. Might is a slight chance. Their Non-League Schdule is VERY LIGHT this year, except maybe your Point Team! So if the Blue Devils get some wins in this rebuilding year, I look for them to garnish the victories in their Non-League Schedule. They are a very young team this season and most likely will be a re-building year for them. I know we have them at Chillicothe this year. :-D

We will have to see how the Blue Devils play. I know Point has had some good teams over the years. Who knows, maybe this is the year they defeat the Blue Devils. Making it a possible 2-8 season for the Blue Devils if every review comes out to be true what the outlook for their season could be in the SEOAL. :-D

Best Succes Point :!:

In our area, how many schools even have the kind of series that we have? Wahama does not have a real big rivalry with the Meigs County schools. The Huntington area schools do not have rivalries with the OVC schools. Both Parkersburg schools used to play Marietta but I know that only South does now.

The series was played from 1921 to 1939 and was not played one year, 1940, because of some kind of illness that was really bad that year in this area. I have the article somewhere around here that I printed from our library about why the game was not played but do not remember where it is. I believe that year also ended the yearly battle between the two teams on Thanksgiving Day, it was never played on that day again. The two teams played twice in 1944 (i think that was the year) to "catch up" in the series and the two teams split the series that year. The series was stopped from 1969 to 1976 because of intense fighting among the two sides, at least that is what I was always told. Any truth to that Jottings or anyone else.

I've heard so many stories about this game that you could write a book. Both sides have been a thorn in each other's side in some of their best years. For example, in 1962 we were 8-0-1. The one tie? Gallipolis, who was 8-1-1 that season and undisputed SEOAL champion with a 7-0 slate. 1985 - i've heard many Gallipolis people on here say that that team was a great football team and Point defeated them 24-20 that season. We were 8-2 that year and lost in the first round of the playoffs and Gallia also went to the playoffs that year.

I don't know what the future will hold for the series because as I have said on here, this is the last year for now. This year's game is a one year contract for the game at Gallipolis. This year, Ohio starts football on the 22nd and we do not start until the 29th. Next year, that creates a problem for us because the only date that Gallipolis has open is our date with Sissonville, which is a contracted conference game that can not be moved. I don't know what will happen past 2009 but I guess we will see - have to see how the schedules fall into place.

Sounds like a great series. What was the reason Point left the SEOAL? And what brought them into the SEOAL? Just curious. I was surprised when they joined but don't remember how long ago that was. Wasn't it about the same time River Valley joined the SEOAL?

We dropped to AA in WV in the 2002 football season and we were invited to join the Cardinal Conference with Winfield, Poca, Herbert Hoover, Wayne, etc, schools that we have histories with in all sports and see eventually in the postseason.

I loved the SEOAL and still do to this day, which is why you see me around these forums a lot, but it made sense for us because we get to play teams we eventually see plus our kids get more recognition. It was hard getting All-State picks because we would only play three WV teams in football, 6-7 in basketball, etc. Our kids get a lot more recognition now and they deserve that.

We had some sports that struggled in the league but also had our fair share of sports that succeeded. Some say our tenure in the SEOAL was a "failure" and we were a "cream puff" according to some but we were above .500 four years out of eight in the league and finished just two games below .500 for our lifetime in the league, which is better than some of the other programs that have been in the league in its illustrious history.

I'm too young to remember when they went into the SEOAL. Our first season in the SEOAL in football was 1996 and I was just 12 at the time so I can't say I remember nor have I ever looked at articles about us joining.

Yes, the Devils will be young this year, but to predict them at 3-7 just seems a bit out of line to me.
I certainly don't think that they will be winless in the SEOAL this year.
It would be a mistake to take them lightly, I think.
Who are the scrimmages against this year, and what is the final word on Garnes?

gahs4ever wrote:WAR to Locos, I dont even know for sure who the starting QB will be at this time. I'll wait to see how things shake down before going out on a limb and predicting any kind of record; much less 3-7. Last 3-7 season was in the fiasco-plagued 1998 of one year wonder Mark Fenik.

The next season, Brent Saunders returned and took essentially the same team to a 10-3 mark and regional runners-up.

Whoever the QB will be, he'll have good coaching. My good friend will have the Blue Devil QB playing at or above his potential, who ever it is.

For the record, I hope the Blue Devils are 9-1.

Work hard and anything can happen. Good Luck.
