Ironton isn't near it's dominating teams of the eighties yet...only for the lack of leadership from what I have seen...but in the age of playstation and wii...I don't look for too many schools to have the same desire that the teams of the eighties had...having said this...I feel that Ironton has a team that could probably go on a long playoff run this year...they are still trying to find themselves and decide if they are going to be a real good team or an average team. They have the ability to look really good with a good qb and tight end who can catch anything close to him....a slew of good backs and depth at line that they haven't seen since I have been watching tiger football...which is now 34 years. I don't think the big uglies have the agression as I have seen in the past...nor the skill, nor knowledge...but they are going to be well rested with none of them going both ways. If someone decides to step up and take control of this team....Ironton could have a great season...including putting the smackdown on Logan in a couple of weeks... :122246

How physical is this Ironton team?

I think that is the major factor which could play very heavily into a match-up against the Blue Devils.

How is this an upset? ironton has lost the only respectable game that they have played. I would not say this is an upset whomever shall win. I do expect a close game however.

Picking Ironton is easy only due the the competition they have this week. Gallia is stronger than Canada so the Tigers may have to play some. But anything less than a 4 touchdown victory does not speak well for the future of this once proud ironton program.

BTW, when the Tigers play Logan in a few weeks there will be a smack down. i look for ironton to try to join a Canadian leagiue after that game. Ironton has not seen a team as good as Logan since the beat down Logan put on the Tigers last year. The Logan JV will get plenty of action when the once proud Tigers visit ther new stadium.

for gallia to win this game the liine is going to have to step up and block and gravely allison and grimm need to have big games. gallia will have to be on top of their game with no mistakes. penalties killed us last week no mistakes this week. they will have to play better than they did vs. point i think.
bballin fool are you sure about that. lol  good luck to you

I have to say that I am disappointed that a player quit after playing two games. I am more disturbed that a parent would allow this to happen. What kind of message are we sending to our children, "if things do not go our way it is alright to give up and quit." My son has experienced hardships in his life in regards to athletics and his mother and I have always encouraged him to stay focused, work hard, and eventually good things will happen. I honestly have to say that coaches make decisions on what the players grasp, who is working hard, and who can contribute to the team. As I have observed the first two GAHS games of the season I like many others have seen that this is a team effort. Not one player stands out. Not even the best players play every down in the game. The coaches are shuffling players in and out both offensively and defensively. Here is the text of Bo Schembechler inspirational 1983 locker room speech: "Think of what a great thing it is to be a part of something that is a team. We're going to win it. We're going to win the championship again, because we're going to play as a team. Better than anybody else in this conference, we're going to play together as a team. We're going to believe in each other. We're not going to criticize each other. We're not going to talk about each other. We're going to encourage each other. We play as a team." We as fans and parents have to believe in this team and the decisions that the coaches make. As I close I will pray that this player and his parents make the right decision in rejoining this TEAM! Go Big Blue!!!

Thanks Hammerdown...it's kinda sad to see the way most kids have gone away from enjoying the pounding on a football field to playing it only on a tv screen...I think there are still good atheletes playing the game, but programs the size of Ironton have less to chose from...heck even the million dollar band isn't a fourth of what it used to be and now we have 8th graders playing in it....

Looking at this years team though....I think they have more depth than any team I can remember...on the line...at least...if they can just hold onto the ball, the discipline is back...that seems to be obvious to me...maybe not as much as in the seventies and eighties...but it's back...that goes a long way with winning....I don't see the penalties as I did in the past two years...If this team wants it...it could win the rest of it's games in the regular season...Ironton has faced much better competition than Logan in the not so far back past...and we have always showed up...this team isn't going to be any different...it's all in who wants it more...If Ironton's kids light bulbs go off and they decide that they want to win...coach lutz always gives them the chance...let's see if the kids are ready..

As far as Ironton and Gallia goes....seems to look like a blow out on paper for ironton....but...let's see if the boys in orange and black are ready to believe they should do that.....if so...long night for the blue and white...go tigers....

NEWS FLASH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Tiger90,

All kids want to win. All kids want to win. Now be clear on that. Logan has more talent. More depth and better coaching. Logan holds on to the ball now. It is not a matter of if they do hold onto the ball. Logan is already holding onto the ball. While Ironton was losing to D-5 Burg Logan was defeating D-1 Lancaster. Sorry, I would say Ironton will get more of what they got last year.( a beat down)

I also see a long night for Gallia vs. ironton if they are any good at all.

All players who QUIT due to playing time in the first two games are very short sighted. Logan had a back who did not start until game 4. The athlete went on to make all District, All SEOAL, and MVP of the SEOAL north. I am glad that athlete did not QUIT.

Quitting arrests the development of the player. Really very sad. Only so many games in a high school career.

If the kid is quitting maybe he doesn't have the passion needed to play the game anyways. Personally I love football and would never quit. Not even if we lost every game by 70. Being out on the field with the band playing is one of the best things I've ever experienced. Big plays and the excitement that come with them can't be explained with words. And I agree it is a shame that any kid would pass up the limited number of Fridays.

After Friday I will be rooting for the Blue Devils, because I respect them for playing us consistently when other teams would not!

I have never posted outside the picks contest and the racing message board, but I had to get on this thread to say this. I have never seen as much respect between 2 programs as what I see and hear between Ironton and Gallia. I graduated from Ironton many years ago. I have relatives from GHS. I live in Chillicothe now and this is one of the few games that I take in nearly every season. Regardless of which side I sit on at which stadium (usually wherever I can find a seat) I hear nothing but good compliments toward the other side.

This is also evident on this thread. This is one of the few threads where I have seen several great posts by several different people. Most of them all right on the money. With the excpetion of some envy by someone who is self proclaimed to be too old, this is a great thread that adds more class to one great rivalry.........should be a great game between two great programs.

Gotta go with the record of the past though......almost always within a touchdown, but Lutz always finds a way. IHS 27-24
