Northwest went "by the book" for the request to move to the SOC-I, however the other SOC-II schools had to approve it and of course they refused to do so, as they did not want to lose their "week off" during the season with the Mohawks.
Some kids are just "born" football players, strong, gifted, aggressive and have a passion for the game. Others can be developed into football players and I think that is where the program at Northwest needs to focus their attention if they are indeed serious about turning the program around. Will not happen over night, may never happen at all, but the work needs to begin for the 2009 season right now and I think it has. Coach Thompson has made changes almost every week, looking for something that works. At least he's looking, but as you can see, he has found no answers. If you have never played football at Northwest it is difficult to understand how these kids feel. I know that Scott Thompson knows how they feel, just by the fact that he's looking for answers, instead of just "waiting out the season". I had hoped to see some improvement this season, at least be in the game mid way through the 4th quarter, but it appears the "machine" is just too "broke" for a quick fix. In all fairness to Coach Thompson and his staff, there should be no "report card" for this season. Next year will tell the tale. I'm certain the remainder of this season will be used to prepare for next season. There is no other goal to have, other than getting the younger kids ready by giving them some playing time. The positive thing about this program is that nobody expects it to change, so work hard, give it everything you have and let's see what happens in 2009. What's the worst thing that could happen? You can't fall out of last place...............

What are the numbers like now at Northwest? Have there been any kids quit this year and what is the injury numbers like? It seems that in past years like this kids would start to drop off as the losses started to mount.

I wish the Mowhawks nothing but luck...and I hope they can get it turned around out there!
