He is a great coach and would do anything 4 anyone.. waverly did him wrong just like they do just about everyone.. he has improved everyone on the baseball team alot.. he is always on the field unlike most that just are on it during season.. so if u dont like him fine thats your choice but u dont have to post stuff about him
Well will have to say Martin was done very unfair by Waverly. Zen I have a feeling you may have been a player for Martin and you are carrying a chip on your shoulder or it was your son. HUMMMM ! which is it. Maybe your up set because Coach Martin played the players that he felt was GOOD and it didn't go by a players Name or Who MOMMY and DADDY was. MY hat goes OFF to COACH MARTIN !!!!!!!!!
Eastern Baseball has much talent, but the biggest concern is how committed the players are that are returning? I have heard some of them talking as if they have a sure position, but I think a few of them better get an early wake up, for if I know Coach Martin as well as I do, he will play the best nine or ten players! It will not matter if your a Senior or not! Eagles you have an opportunity to make some real noise this Spring, but it is up to you how far you want to go? So I guess I have laid out the challenge! How bad do you want an SOC Title and beyond?
I have seen Coach Martin out there working on the field as well as developing the Eagles all throughout the year. For him every day is baseball season! It really makes me happy that Eastern has found such a dedicated coach in Martin. I hope the players are putting in half as much effort as he is. If they are, look for a conference title.

That is rediculous, what did he do to you? I played for him on Post 142, he is an excellent person, and like Deweese said, he would do anything for anyone. Hopefully the Eagles ignore people like you and put their confidence in Coach Martin will help get the team where they need to be, and in my opinion he will have them better than where they need to be.....
60'6" I did not say he was a bad coach, he is a good coach he loves the game . All I am saying I am tired of hearing about those stupid pants. Those pants are really doing pike co. boys allot of good sitting in his garage. 60'6" like I said ask the Legion why. They will tell you.
Ok man I'm sick of hearing about them too but if you're sick of hearing it then SHUT UP about them! It's a simple thing to do. Change the subject and move on like everyone else has. I'm not trying to sound like a jerk here but thats just the sensible thing to do.
Yes I agree enough with the stupid pants thing......its gettin old... I have an enormous amount of respect for coach martin...waverly screwed him over and nobody knows the full story bout that so lets not go an say this stuff if u don't know the whole story....
i hope dakota vanhoose, jordan thornsberry, and jacob helton play this year.. dakota IMO was one of the best 1st baseman in the league. jordan is good. i think he is better at baseball then he is at basketball.
hopefully we do see some more faces out this coming season, but we want dedicated players who are willing to work hard with a desire to make a difference in the program and who are willing to stay the long haul
Here is what I have seen regarding Eastern's 2009 non-league schedule

In reading the responses regarding Eastern Baseball for 2009, it sounds if Coach Martin has the program heading in an upward motion. I will be curious to see how many kids come out for baseball this year. If it is true of what I have heard, then there may be enough to have a JV team. I know we will have to wait and see, but I hope these kids committ early, so Coach Martin get can games scheduled for a JV team.
I also have heard he is trying to get a Junior High Program started, but it is slow. Understand funding is an issue and time trying to raise funds for the Varsity team to get what they need, then if he does have enough for a JV team, making sure he has everything for them, then be sure the Junior High program has what it needs.
I have heard Coach is really committed and has put in much work, but we all know one man can not accomplish everything. I believe last year on the back of shirts it read " Alone we can accomplish so little; together we can do so much".
Again, I hear many positives and I hope we as a community get behind this program and man and support it as we have all sports at Eastern. There is no reason why we cannot have all our programs at the top as well as our school, but we all must work together.
I'm behind him 110%. I agree with you as well! We need to show our support by coming out and supporting the team as soon as the season rolls around. I know I'll be there, watching every minute of the action. Hopefully we do get a jv team to get some less experienced players experience on the field. If he is getting a jr. high team, how is the interest in it looking?

In response to the posting that if Eastern will be playing in the County Tournament, the answer is yes. So you need to add to the non-league schedule Waverly or Piketon or both?
As to the other posting to where the Junior High program interest is, relies on funding? I know Coach Martin is out beating the bushes as much as possible, but in speaking with him, not getting much in return in the way of donations for Varsity on down to the Junior High. I have seen his letter he is passing out and he has two types of sponsorships; A Patron Sponsor - donation of $50 - $100 will get the individuals name on a banner to be hung at the ball field.
A Homerun Sponsor - donation of $150 - $500 will get a 4x6 banner hung on the outfield fence with the business or individuals name.
These funds will be used to purchase uniforms, helmets, catchers equipment and to do some other comestic things around the field. Like outdoor batting cages for both baseball and softball. Plus buy some other equipment needed to take care of the field and to get some protective screens, so he can utilize pratice time more efficiently.
Like I have said in past postings as well as other people on here is we have a man that is dedicated and in it for all the right reason (THE KIDS), now we have to step up and help him any way we can. If it going out and talking to people for donations or volunteering our time with the field we need to do so, for I feel he has this program heading in the right direction and I hope we do not lose him before he has a chance to do some great things for Eastern and our kids.
This is Coach Martin, I would like to thank everyone for the wonderful comments and the support, but there is still plenty of work to be done regarding this baseball program!! Many things that I have done, any Coach would do, for it is part of our jobs.
I must say I am very excited about this upcoming baseball season! We have many talented players coming back and I am excited about who I have heard may be coming out to play this season and into the future! I must say I am having a hard time waiting for Baseball to arrive in 2009!
We will have three very good pitchers in our rotation, Osborne, Swiggett, and DeWeese. We will be searching for that fourth starter? Our relief pitching will be much better, for they have gotten a little more experience and they have gotten stronger. Our infield should be pretty solid, but we will have to work hard and cut down on our errors, for that is what hurt us last year in many games. Infield position that is somewhat of a concern right now is firstbase. Our outfield should be pretty solid.
We have to play good fundamental baseball and execute when we must for all seven innings, if we are going to be successful.
Cody Stump did a very good job at the catchers position last year with very limited experience. I am looking for him to really step it up this year and have a good season for his senior year. I am looking for all these kids to step it up and for us to have alot of fun and be very successful!!
I am very proud of these young men for what they did last year. As I said earlier, I am excited about the 2009 season, for many of these same young men have been working hard in making themselves stronger and better.
We only have approximately 81 days until we can officially start. I JUST CAN'T WAIT!!!!
