Reds sign Johnny Gomes to minor league deal.

http://blogs.tampabay.com/rays/2009/01/gomes-a-red.html

I think its a great signing by Jocketty. Gomes is a great clubhouse, team leader guy in the same mold as Greg Vaughn. He is the one who initiated the Rays mohawk team haircut and also the one who was the involved in a couple of brawls between the Rays-Red Sox and in spring training last year with the Yankees. Why does that matter? Because the Reds need a fiery personality exactly like Gomes. Baseball is a long season and team chemistry is vital to success (unless your the Yankees) so signing him was a nice move.

I thought Griffey Jr. was a good signing but lets be honest he has done nothing good for the teams playoff hopes...all he does is fill seats and occasionally hit some long balls in between injuries

I know but I was thinking this a few yrs into his play with the reds...no matter who they sign, great player or not, it seams they only start out great and then stink it up and then get traded

i still say keep your eyes on Yonder Alonzo, a rookie for the reds this year. he is gonna turn some heads with his hitting abillity, power and average.....but if he does turn some heads look for him to get traded just like all good reds players do

Yonder won't be with Reds this season. He'll spend the year in the minors and be a rookie in 2010.

As fans we have reasons to be frustrated by the Reds but I say give Walt Jocketty a chance. His track record in St. Louis speaks for itself and Bob Castellini trusts Jocketty to bring the Reds back into contention.

SWBaseballFan, you know the game well and your exactly right about Alonso, he will be a stud. The Reds also have a nice nucleus of players who will break into the majors late this season or in 2010 like Todd Frazier, Chris Valaika, Drew Stubbs, Devin Mesoraco, Juan Francisco and lets not forget the talent Homer Bailey has or the upside of Daryl Thompson. This team is on the rise and people around Major League Baseball will tell you the same thing.

exactly....i have been saying that for 2 years, its just that untill last season none of the young players matured and made it to the show. i just hope that the reds dont dump a few of them for one ageing player with a little bit of power to try and get a couple wins by homerun, or just try to make ends meet by putting a few more fans in the seats.
