Belpre did show improvement week four vs. Alex, but if the Eagles play NY like they did @ Wellston, NY will have to hold a special levy to pay for the powder they burn up in that blasted cannon! (Belpre fans, be sure and bring your earplugs).

Come on Eagles, prove me wrong.

I'm going to do a top 10 list for the ten most significant games all-time in this series. Off the top of my head, 1982 was the biggest game in series history. NY, fresh off it's undefeated state championship season in 1981 was heading for another undefeated, playoff season in '82, if they could get past Belpre first!!! Traveling on the road in Belpre, with a league championship, undefeated season, and playoff implications on the line, NY defeated the Golden Eagles 18-13.

There isn't really any hype to this game any more. Belpre plays NY hard but there wins against NY are few and far between. To most of us it's just another game!

In all honesty Nelsonville will win this game simply because they are a great team. Seems like every year nelsonville has a good team no matter who they have. The thing i hate is that Belpre always gets bashed and i know 0-5 record is BAD. But Warren is (5-0). I dont know shanendoah's record but they were (4-0) last i heard. Trimble is WAY better than what they are playing. Alexander is (5-0), Wellston plays a darn tuff schedul. Nelsonville is (5-0) also. Belpe has a tough schedul this year and having 26 players isnt helping. A lot of players play every play of every game. Since Ullman has been back their offense is starting to improve. Watkins and Waderker are avg around 80 yds a piece. The D has to step up in order to win this game and if they dont Arnold will get his season total in just this game. Good Lck belpre

The one I was involved with is 1992-1993 when Belpre was undefeated and was taking on NY in the final game. If I remember correctly NY was either undefeated or lost one previous. But Belpre had a big fan fair and brought the two teams from Belpre's undefeated years in the 80s with Lee Holder and crew. Everyone thought Belpre had it in the bag. Belpre's defense that year was one of the Best in Belpre's history. Unfortunatly NY came in with something to prove and boy did they prove it. I believe the score was 34-14. Back then one loss could knock you out of the playoff birth due to the structure of the playoffs then. NY came in and rained on our parade and knocked us out of the playoffs by less than a point in the standings. The stadium at Belpre was standing room only. Boy those were the days. Those twins for NY did a number on us that we never expected. I believe they were freshman then too.

Belpre getting in the Hocking will do some good for Belpre. Hopefully, getting back into the winning tradition will bring Belpre back. I am sure over time NY and Belpre will be slugging it out once again.

The Gails Justin & Jason are those twins you speak of it wasn't there Freshman year cuz that was the 1991 season i'd say this game was in 92/93? cuz in 92/93? Not sure what season Trimble scored 14 points on us and that was the most anybody scored on us in the regular season I think we only gave up 4 or 5 TDS in that season of 93 which was Coach Dave Boston's last season we went 10-0 & went to the playoffs

Yes it was 92-93 season and I just went back and looked and the score was 34-0. Opening kick off NY ran it back inside the 10 and took the wind out of us. Not Trimble I am talking Belpre.

Here is the 1992 Season for NY that everyone is talking about:

1992 10-1 (8-0) TVC
@ Athens 35-0
Logan 33-7
@ Meigs* 29-0
Alexander* 34-0
@ Miller* 34-0
@ Vinton County* 41-7
Federal Hocking* 41-0
@ Belpre* 34-0
Wellston* 27-0
Trimble* 34-14

Division III, Region 12 Semifinals @ Portsmouth
Ironton 0-14

Season analysis:
This was the final season of the unified TVC. This was also one of NY's strongest teams ever. Even though NY lost to Ironton in the opening round of the Division III playoffs, NY held Ironton to fewer points that year than any team except the team Ironton faced in the State Championship Game. By luck of the draw, NY lost to the eventual State Runner Up team in '92. NY played Ironton closer than Sheridan did in the Regional Championship and NY played Ironton closer than Germantown Valley View did in the State Semifinals.

From irontonfootball.com - Ironton - 1992:

Russell KY (A) 36 0
Ashland KY (H) 22 14
DuPont WV (A) 29 6
Huntington WV (H) 56 14
Portsmouth (A) 20 14
Greenup Co. KY (H) 42 0
Huntington East WV (A) 62 7
River Valley (H) 48 18
Portsmouth West (H) 64 0

Regular Season Totals

379 73
PLAYOFFS

Nelsonville-York (N)- Regional Semi-Final Spartan Stadium - Portsmouth 14 0
Sheridan Regional Final (N) - Spartan Stadium - Portsmouth 49 12
Germantown Valley View (N) State Semi-Finals - Dublin 23 0
Mentor Lake Catholic (N) State Final - Paul Brown Stadium - Massillon 7 31
Final Season Totals 472 116

Great stats on the series by NYBuckeye96!

Belpre has 6 of their 15 wins in the series at Nelsonville. I would be interested to know where this stands in terms of the number of wins a school has at Nelsonville.

Heres hoping that Belpre can get road win #7 in Nelsonville. But to do this, Belpre must play the near perfect game for all 4 quarters.

LETS GO EAGLES!!!

No I was saying Belpre didn't score 14 on us that year because Trimble did and it was the most our D gave up that season a little misunderstanding is all

Yes score was 34-0. And it was our 8 wk we played. I remember all the hype around town. Signs all thru Belpre. Huge rival game with 2 undefeated teams.
Does anyone know the teams and scores of Belpre's 1992 season?

ok guys, halfway point of the season. while the offense has come along nicely the past few weeks, that eagle defense is still struggling. to have a chance this week, we need to tackle better than we have shown. arnold is a nice back and he will get yards. we need to keep him from getting them in bunches. make him earn every one. try to keep him in the middle of the field, not getting loose on the outside. mlb's step up and fill the holes. you guys can do it! shock the world this week ... well, at least se ohio. keep working hard. good luck to both teams and hope there are no injuries.

go eagles!

I'll check my master spreadsheet at home tonight and get back to you on this one. I believe Belpre will be second on the list of most wins in Nelsonville, behind Logan. I do know that overall - home and away - Belpre is second to Logan in terms of number of wins against NY. Part of that is because Belpre and NY have played each year since 1970, but Belpre still has more wins against NY than Trimble and this is the 40th year for both of those contests.

And I don't want this to sound arrogant, but some schools don't even have six wins period against NY, let alone six wins in Nelsonville. So that is yet another reason this series has been significant the past four decades. Belpre has been more successful than any other school vs. NY except for Logan.
