TVC is a lot of smaller schools that's why we joined. We couldn't compete with schools our size. Didn't last years coach beat Jackson at the Wellston tournament?

Last year's coach didn't beat Jackson....Athens players along with Jackson being lost in the early season beat Jackson.

I'm hear to tell you...Jackson is not even remotely the same team as they were at that time last year.

I would bet had Athens played Jackson towards the end of last season, they would have lost. That new coach made a world of difference.

Coach Jordan is one of the best around...Jackson will only continue to improve and i would not be surprised to see them on top of the Seoal soon.

Well you got to look at this way. We go undefeated in baseball but of the five losses most our to schools our size. We go to the tournament and lose first game of course again to a school our size. We played Morgan in basketball again our size and in no way a power house and barely escape. Then comes Jackson and the big loss. I'm just saying in order to win games we have to play smaller schools so the TVC is a better fit to gain wins at least in the regular season. You can also look at the girls basketball team. 0-2 in it's first two games getting beat by 17 and 18 points by same size schools. We did finally beat Wellston but they may not win more than one game. I'm all for the move because it will bring winning back to the school.

Also I figured that Jackson new coach would do well. I mean he is legend.

Alot of that is true, but sometimes smaller schools doesnt mean as much as people would think. Where I went to school (Franklin, Oh.) we were in the Mid Miami League. We were a D1 (back then it was designated AAAA) school. In our conference, there was this Catholic High school (Fenwick) that was D4. They more often than not pounded everyone they played and usually went to state in football. Yet, our school was the cream of the crop, in the US, in gymnastics. Alot of things have to do with the coach, the amount of talent that goes out for the perticular sport, local support for that sport program, and school budget.
I stand corrected by your logic ,on retrospect.
Plus, Jacksons coach has worked with his boys a little longer than your coach has had the chance to do.

78: The majority of Athens schedule is DII, same as them. Quit knocking people just to get your personal digs in because your little boy didn't get to play once you couldn't coach his teams anymore!

The Dogs were bad last night, and Jackson was good. Jackson shot lights out and it just propelled them the rest of the way. Athens is better than they played last night and Jackson is pretty good.

Athens definitely did not play their game last night. Could not buy a bucket, turned the ball over way too much, and struggled on D. I in no way count the Bulldogs out for the rest of the season. They are still going to be a team to reckon with. They just have to start firing on all cylinders. It is all still being fine tuned. I have faith in the Dogs.

P.S. JUMPSTOP, I think the last time we heard from you was when you were trying to tell everyone on here how great the last Athens' coach was. If I remember right you are from Berne Union. (by way of Logan) right?

Finally, a voice of reason from an Athens person here on SEOPS. You see things as they truley are, and not some dream of how you wish they were. Most of the Athens people I know and talk to see things the same way. Athens joined the TVC to enjoy more success in athletics. They are enjoying success, (in some ways indirectly), because of that move. Unfortunately most Athens posters on here do not want to admit that. Those that do, then contradict themselves by qualifying there statement saying they would be winning even if they didn't make the move. So it is good to see at least one Athens poster wearing reality glasses. Now, before someone tells me to quit crying about Athens being in the league I will say I am glad they are in. But I also know that they will never domiante the league in basketball and football like some others seem to think. So maybe that is why I like the move?

Whether Athens 78 is correct or not, I needed to digress if nothing more than the fact that my post may have seemed like I was attacking him and that aint what I meant. I do see Athens being very competitive this basketball season in the TVC. I will say that its a might of a jump to be claiming a TVC championship this early on.

Pol Pot most of their basketball schedule isn't DII. Two league opponents are DII and the rest plus the hocking teams they play are DIII and DIV. Again I think it's great they finally get to win at all sports and bring home the all sports trophy ever year. However they won't have much success in the tournaments or making the playoffs but that's just fine because we didn't have it before.

gahs4ever - your right it was Gallia who is smaller but in the same division. The also lost to Eastern a DIV school with about what 75 boys in the regular season.

Show me a DII school who does not play some III's and maybe a IV? 1/2 of Athens games are II. Meigs x 2, VC x 2, Jackson, Gallia, Morgan, Warren and that is off the top of my head without even looking at a schedule 8 games with schools in the same classification.

Athens plays 5 DII games and 1 DI..The other 14 games are DIII and up.

Athens plays...

2 MVL teams (Morgan, Sheridan)
3 SEOAL teams (Jackson, Gallia Acd., Logan)
1 KY team (Greenup)
2 TVC-Hocking teams (Trimble, Eastern)
The remainder are TVC-Ohio matchups..

Jackson is a team on the rise, Gallia always has talent, Logan is the big boy in SEO, and Eastern would probably beat all of them...so even though they may not play all "big" schools...that doesnt mean they dont play talented ones! The TVC-Ohio will be decent as well..as Alex, Belpre and VC should all win at least 15 games each.

Thank you Dundas. It is not my intention to start a controversy here, but TVC basketball is more competitive than football, in addition the dogs non league is challenging. So with knowing that I can tell you this, anybody who thought Athens would run thru its schedule like it did in football, either has delusion of grandeur or is uninformed. The Dogs return lots of experience, but lost experienced players to graduation such as Matt Witten, Cameron Tope, Anthony Sylvester, and Derrick Waters ( who played part of his sr. year and was terrific) The Dogs have to mix in inexperienced players like Harris, Maffin, Germano, McAdoo, and Rider. They are going to be very competitive, but the team to beat remains Vinton County.

I wonder what division Athens would be in if they kicked out the 150 open enrollment students who currently attend the high school and very few of which participate in athletics at all. And the new law does not allow the money to follow the student from his home school.

I hear all this talk about size of a school and you can't help your lacation and you can't help who comes out to play. Small schools still can put their best product on the floor, with the same talent as a D1 or what have you. These kids are the same age some with more potential than others. I am not from here but I have been around long enough to know some things about the area schools. From what I know Athens is D2 by only about six to ten students.
