Its going to be interesting to see if Athens can maintain itself from last year losing so many starters. IMO, I think they fall back to mid pack in the league at 3-2 or 2-3. As for the season as a whole...I guess I wouldnt be surprised if they went 8-2 based off of last season, but this years team will be much different than last.

Gallia will be improved. They dont stay down very long and you could see twords the end of last season that they were much better than they were early on. I think that will carry over to this season. This game will be a key factor to how the rest of the season goes for AHS..IMO.

Coal Grove is a team VC is very familiar with, having played them for a good streatch starting in the late 90's and lasting till the mid 2000's. Coal Grove is a dangerous team. They may be in a smaller division, but they did make the playoffs last season and could very well do it again this year. Especially if they can beat a DII Athens team.

Warren is in the midst of an 'up' cycle themselves, and should be just as good as last years 7-3 team. IMO, if Logan falls back to the rest of the Seoal this seson, then Warren will have a decent chance at a league title..With the other contenders being Logan (of coarse) and Pmouth.

If Athens can win these first three games, then they are legit. I personally dont see it happening though...2 of 3 would be a great start to the year and would leave them still in contention for the playoffs...which is what i think they will start out at.

Chillicothe WILL be improved with their new Coach taking over this year. They really struggled last season and i expect them to have a huge turnaround starting next year. I think Athens has a shot at them, but it should be a good game.

Parkersburg South is typically a great team. I dont know much about them but its definatly a step up from Wahama.

IF Athens can get through this non league with only 1 loss...they will yet again challenge for the TVC Championship. If they struggle with 2 or 3 wins, I think that will continue into league play and you will see athens go 3-2 or 2-3 in the TVC.

Meigs is losing some of their key players from last season, but they never seem to fall any worse than mid pack in the TVC in their down years. So this one could be good game as well.

VC will have to improve by leaps and bounds to have a chance to win more than 2 or 3 league games this season...Im not saying they cant.. I just think they will need more time with their new Coach. Athens should have a good chance to win this game if they come in with one or two losses.

Alexander will be tough...They arent the same Alexander team as years past. Even when they were in the midst of their 30'some game TVC-Ohio losing streak, they STILL managed to beat some of the bad Athens teams in years past. So they can win...this one could be a toss up.

Wellston, as always is expected to win a lot of games. They have struggled the past few years with a tough non league and hopfully the new Coach will make things happen for them. Wellston gave everyone a run for their money last season (except for NY)...so i think this will also be a good matchup.

Nelsonville York will most likely come into this game with a perfect TVC mark and im sure will be in the mix for a playoff spot. This will be a huge game if Athens comes in with only one or two losses..but i dont see that happening. I also dont see them beating NY.

Overall I think Athens will go 6-4 next season...this is totaly based off last years results, who is coming back, and my gut...

At the end of the day Athens is in the TVC, and nothing is going to change that. People need to let that old topic go. Now as for next year they will have a decent team, not saying great but decent. With the skill players they have coming back and the amount of speed they have this could be another good season. They have a lot to replace, but it can be done they have a lot of potential in the line and on defense. How quickly that potential turns to good or great is yet to be seen. They just have to be dedicated and stay the course and they can be successful.

This questions comes down to the kids. Would they rather compete in the league, or play in post season play? As a player and a fan and I seen what has happened the last decade with the kids in the SEOAL, I think it is a good move. Athens has a lot of kids that love this game, and when they were going out and not competing, I hated seeing this. (Although it is part of the game.) I support all area teams, and think that it was a great move for the area. Greater crowds, and bigger rivalries, with games that actually mean something week in and week out. It is unfortunate that Athens cannot have the best of both worlds to where they could play in this small school league and make it into the playoffs with a few losses, however, competing must of been more important to them when they decided to enter in to this league. I think they made the right choice.

Athens made the right choice not only for a better opportunity to compete immediately but also in the future because the numbers and program support was horrible and getting worse every year in the SEOAL as the losses mounted.

They were much improved last year and I am sure improved as the season went on but week one they weren't a great team, they did beat the Devils but alot of costly mistakes byt the Devils including a fumble inside the one yard line and a fumbled kickoff return inside our own twenty. We weren't good offensively at that point and 14 points probably would have beaten us but GAHS beat ourselves rather than Athens beating them.

NY lost to Ironton who was 2nd in the seoal last year so how do you figure the LH-NYHS game would have been competitive. Ask some IHS folks their opinion on that.

I say the Dogs will go 7-3 but they could swing a game either way.

The 'HOME DATES' with WARREN & SOUTH may end up being the deciding factor ...

I see the 'DOGS going 9-1 - but all that matters is that we that blow the 'Bucks off their home turf to make up for the past two years (which are being called debacles around these parts)

O & B ... We finally have the 'Speed' to favor the playing surface this coming season ... the last two years we were on opposite ends of the spectrum ... Our power running game in 2008 should have been played at the muddy confines of Rutter Field ... our wide open arial attack and quick skilled players would have been better suited for Dave Boston Field in '09 ... You got lucky we started the series on your turf; but I have to think we may have the right make-up for the 2010 clash.

lol

Athens will go 5-5 next year. Might get lucky & do 6-4. Changing leagues to play smaller, weaker schools doesn't change the fact the program is still in the crapper and should they play teams in their division, would revert to getting their butts kicked again. Athens is not competitve for their division and should they get lucky & ever make the playoffs, a big embarassment would be the result in having a big score run up by a quality opponent.

It is to early to tell what Athens will do, but I can say this I hope that Athens prove you guys wrong. We beat you guys in basketball this year (same size school), and probably would have gave you guys a run for your money in football. Stop the hating and the bashing Of these kids because they performed well. If you have a problem with who they play call the AD and question him. Nothing like seeing grown men bash kids who play for the love of the game wether win or lose.
