Division 5 Region 19 in 2010
Re: Division 5 Region 19 in 2010
Liberty Union opened up the season with a 37-19 win over Bloom Carroll (at BC).
You're right, LU lost a lot from last year's team (17 starters total), but don't count them out just yet. The good thing about them is that they have a bunch of excellent athletes and although they may lack experience playing in varsity games, their athleticism will help them out tremendously.
Cam Love (no relation to Dustin Love who graduated this past spring) ran for 186 yards Friday. Josh Makuch ran for 80+. Sam Kessler looks good under center, and the line held up nicely.
In losing so much from last year's team it makes sense to think the Lions have no chance to make the playoffs, but I know these young men and they are determined and they feed off of being the underdog. I wouldn't count them out just yet. It will be a tough road to hoe, but nothing is impossible.
GO LIONS!!!

Well said....not impossible by any means..FrozenRope9 wrote:Liberty Union opened up the season with a 37-19 win over Bloom Carroll (at BC).

I definitely think coal grove will be back in the playoff hunt. They only lost a few starters and have plenty of replacements ready to go. They have a diversified group that is willing to work together instead of a one or two man show. Go Hornets and good luck. Frederick town is also looking tough so far this year, along with Nelsonville York. Oak Hill looks promising but shaky..
Re: Division 5 Region 19 in 2010
The only problem with Liberty Union is getting the points to get in. I will say that Region 19 was unusually tough to get in last year though. Usually the cut-off point is in the 14.5 range, but last year it was 17.9. LU had 16.3 pts last year and finished 10th. In any other year since joe eitel has had his site (about 10 years) they would have made it.
It will be interesting to see if Reg 19 returns to it's normal point range or if it continues to be high.

I`m going to go out on a limb and say region 19 is loaded with talented teams and IMO one of the best regions in the state. I look for 3 SOCII schools to make it and SOC I Oak Hill to make it.
Re: Division 5 Region 19 in 2010
Maybe the most competitive as far as evenly matched top to bottom, but it doesn't have the best teams.

Real good points selonmc. NY has in the past got in with 7 wins and failed to make it last year with 8 wins and more harbin points than normal. I think that trend holds true again this year, and would venture to say that is why you see NY with the schedule they have.selonmc wrote:The only problem with Liberty Union is getting the points to get in. This region is always fun. When you think you got it figured out.....Someone gets upset...
if NY GETS in they WILL BE BATTLE TESTED..Against some very good teams....Tough out 4 anybody in 19...

Wheelersburg started out losing week one again to Ironton 12-7. They play an Oak Hill team friday that made it to the regional finals last yr losing to Ridgewood, and they have thier whole team back this yr. If burg can win this friday night, I think Skys the limit. If they lose, they must run the table. Minford, West and Lucasville Valley will be the the stepping stones for that but its a long road to haul!

That is true....Oak never made it to the finals. They beat Coal Grove round 1, then lost a close game to a very good Ridgewood team.
Re: Division 5 Region 19 in 2010
I see the S.O.C 2 shining in the playoffs this year. We have Valley, West, Wheelersburg and Minford. All four teams are capable of making a play off run. This will be an extremely good football season this year for us southern ohio folks
Re: Division 5 Region 19 in 2010
Man! The SOC D5 teams and Coal Grove play some brutal schedules this year. If Coal Grove comes through the first 5 at 4-1 or even 3-2, they should be in the playoffs. 9-1 would be a home game, I'm thinking - especially if they beat DII-sized Athens and/or Greenup County - both of whom will win quite a few games this year....

What are some updates for region 19? Both Caldwell and Barnesville won and are set to face each other in week 3. Monroe Central took a hit with a loss to Shadyside. Shenandoah and Fort Frye both won as well.

What a great season its going to be for region 19. Unfortunately whoever makes it out of this region will probably have to play Urseline.

West sent ursuline a message a few years back. Why fear ursuline...
Re: Division 5 Region 19 in 2010
Liberty Union raised it's record to 2-0 with a 21-7 win over Fairfield Union on Friday night.
Re: Division 5 Region 19 in 2010
I've got a feeling a couple of very deserving teams will be left on the outside looking in again this year. Tough region.
Re: Division 5 Region 19 in 2010
Burg is all but eliminated. They will lose to West and could easily lose to Valley or Minford plus lousy point games against Fairland, Rock Hil, Northwest, and Waverly. Ridgeweed is sounding like they will be tough again. I'm not sold on Fredricktown or LU yet though. Of course Oak Hill win run the table. Minford will lose at least two games this year, but could lose as many as four. Same with Valley.
