I do not like giving score predictions but I will say this much, the Grove is at home so you know it will be close, I can see this game being low scoring and the last team that has the ball wins.

I have watched GC twice this season. Marsh was awesome the first game and Lyle was awesome the second game. This tells me this Oline is for real. CG will have their hands full trying to stop them on offense.

Last year, Rashard Carter ran for well over 300 yards and they still lost by two scores.

This isn't last years greenup team...they aren't as good as Ashland but not far behind them.....if that tells you where they stand...I think cg and gc will be a very close game..something in my gut says gc...maybe It's the chilli...

This game will be close, it will be all about ball control and what offense holds on to the ball the longest and makes the fewest mistakes. I also believe that special teams will be a huge factor in this game, whichever team gets the best field position for their offenses to start from will most likely win this game.

I too think it will be a close game. But there are a few things about the Ashland game to consider. Firstly, it was week one. Everyone was rusty. Secondly, Ashland doesn't play physical football - they're a finess team. That plays into Greenup's hand. Ashland doesn't have a consistent running game because they aren't physical. Their running game is predicated on the passing game - something GC could not defend against. Thirdly, GC is missing linemen if I'm not mistaken so I would imagine
this would have to at least make some difference. GC is better overall compared to last year, but it's all about matchups.

Hey Fuzz, This is all I am saying, wouldnt you agree that CG should be one of the premier teams in southern Ohio. They have won the OVC I think 26 plus times, but its been 18 years since they have been to the second round. In saying that I know you CG people are proud of your football isnt that a little embarassing when alot of other schools in southern ohio like Chesapeake, Symmes Valley, Wheelersburg, Ironton, Notre Dame, Oak Hill, Minford, and I even think Green did. That is 8 schools in your area since CG has made it to the second round?

Footballcrazy, you've touched on a subject that has been whispered about on here and elsewhere. For some reason people are afraid to discuss it but it's really no secret. The fact is that there are a number of factors that play into why CG "underachieves" but the thing that ties them all together is attitude. Go to a Coal Grove game on any given Friday night, and then the next week take in a game at the Tank or Ed Miller or even Minford these days. Compared to these places, CG will seem like a graveyard. The fans and the community don't care as much about the program as other communities in the area do. The community doesn't get behind the team like they do at Ironton or Burg. Also, the community is satisfied with mediocrity. Its considered a good year when CG wins the WEAK OVC. Thats not acceptable at Ironton or Wheelersburg. It's all about "my boy" with the parents. At Ironton, no one in their right mind would dare walk up to Coach Lutz and demand that their kid isn't getting enough time. That happens all the time at Coal Grove. Also, let's not forget that the program absolutely went down the drain when Lucas was forced out of CG in the late 90s and is just now getting back to serious competition. They've made leaps and bounds since Lucas' return in 04/05. The talent has increased as well.

So to answer your question: yes, I do think Coal Grove football should be on the same level as teams like Wheelersburg and Nelsonville-York. I think it's getting better. But until the community as a whole gets behind the program, it won't do any good. Look at all the Nelsonville, Wheelersburg, and Ironton fans on this site alone. How many CG fans do you see on here? I'm not saying you have to be on SEOPs to be a true fan but it's a pretty good sample size of fans.

Fuzz you made alot of good points but 13 of those 18 years Lucas was the head coach! I think he was a good coach at one time but for the calibor of players( way better than alot of those schools I mentioned earlier) that CG has and I seen them at Oak Hill in the playoffs and also run track, they should be way better than they are, its seems its excuse after excuse. The game at Oak Hill Coach Lucas had very little to do with the coaching of the team. It just seems there is alot of diehard CG football fans on here but they all settle for what you said "mediocracy"

First off I am one Coal Grove fan who doesn't like mediocrity, in fact I believe I said as much after the Valley game, if the current coaching staff cannot get it done then it is time to change course and go a different way. We have a lot of talent on the team now and some really good talent coming up that needs to be used in the correct way. I truly believe that if Coal Grove had a coaching staff that the players respected a lot of our issues would take care of themselves, example: Coal Grove did not hustle at all against Valley this year and that is one of the main reasons we got embarrassed, the boys just didn't seem to care. Now when I played we had to much respect for our coaches and for the community to just lay down like that, it didn't matter the score we were still going to come out you with all that we had. I also believe that the Valley lose just may have been the best thing for this team, they now know that no one is going to lay down for them and just let them win, they are going to have to go out there every week and fight for it. So don't think that all Grove fans are happy with "status quo" right now, there are more of us out there and we enjoy winning the OVC but we also enjoy winning playoff games and that is what is up for this team this year, it has been a steady climb to try to get back to where we were, we have won our conference(going for four in a row), we have made the playoffs, now it is time to make the playoffs and win a playoff game.
