Pol Pot-
I was just making a General comment on the fact that some GREAT high school athletes from all the schools never pursued the game in College.
You are right about the ones you mentioned, especially Goldsberry and Adams...

Re: Your School's All-Time Team.
There are just soooo many good ones over the years for Athens, Chauncey, The plains ... way to too many to even list ...
But you have to throw MIKE GOODWIN in at running back ... coach Goodwins uncle, he was the all-time rushing leader until Ryan Adams broke it in 1989.
Kris Kostival - walked onto Ohio State (linebacker)
P.J. Lyons - Kris Kostival's teammate and one of the best athletes I have ever seen wear the green-and-gold!
Scott Stricklin - quarterback
Bubba Lichtenberg - quarterback
Jesse Wheatley - linebacker - played college football over in Illinois somewhere.
Pat McHugh - quarterback - played for Rich Rodriguez at Glennville State in West Virginia.
Terry Donavan - WR - still the best wide out I have seen at Athens ... although Schwarzel put in one heck of a season in 2012.
like I said ... too many to name ... I would be hear all day ... lol

Re: Your School's All-Time Team.
if you ask some old timers, they will tell you Don McInturf was one heckuva a football player back in his day ... and if you ask coach Fortney to name some of the best linemen, he will probably put Jim karageorge at or near the top of the list ...
Re: Your School's All-Time Team.
This may make a lot of people mad but I'd have a hard time picking anybody over Jimmy.

If Danny Abdella wasn't 4-foot-2, could he have been added to the list of great RB's, Fortdawg?Fortdawg wrote:This may make a lot of people mad but I'd have a hard time picking anybody over Jimmy.

Re: Your School's All-Time Team.
Can we list the best Jr. High players and coaches or is this just for high school?

Maybe once they are tenured. But they haven't put the time in yet. I have a few others in mind though.93Bulldog wrote:if you want to nominate Reuben Kittle and Tom Hardy as top jr. high coaches ... feel free to do so.koondoger wrote:Can we list the best Jr. High players and coaches or is this just for high school?

I don't claim to be any kind of expert, and this is only my opinion, but the best high school football player I've seen in Athens County in the last 20-30 years is Justin Gail.

I have no problem with that assessment.Broad Street wrote:I don't claim to be any kind of expert, and this is only my opinion, but the best high school football player I've seen in Athens County in the last 20-30 years is Justin Gail.

Abby was a hard nosed kid---I'd have no problem handing him the ball whether we needed one yard or six.

IRONTON DEFENSE:
JD Coffman *
JD Cyrus *
Wolfgang Kratzenburg
Ken Fritz *
Mike Henry
Reggie Arden
Troy Sands
Jason Harmon
James Taylor *
D.C. *
- couldn't come up with other DB's
* IMHO these players excelled more on the offensive side, but wanted to throw them out in response to Dino's "Ironton Offense"
