Greenfield has a GREAT defense. Not sure anyone scored 50 all year in regulation. I think Wellston will have to hold GM under 45 points to win.

Wellston had already hit a 3 with under a minute to play when it looked like they were content to run it out and Peake not fouling. Wellston coach called an immediate timeout after the made 3. Everyone assumed to make sure they run it out once they get it bak again. They got it back and were indeed running it out as Peake defenders just stood around, 4 of them at mid court. The same girl who hit the 3 moments earlier decides to make a layup at the buzzer. Folks were highly upset.

I can tell you that the two Wellston girls involved in that last basket, before we even interviewed them in the postgame, were regretful about it.

Congratulations to the Lady Rockets on their first-ever district tournament appearance, victory and now championship game berth.

Well-said Keyser. Easy to be armchair point guard. 16 yr old kids in the moment have their juices flowing. I hope Wellston's coach used it as a teaching moment. Congrats Lady Rockets and best of luck against a tough Lady Tigers team.

Kids will be kids. I agree with barnyard, use this as a teaching moment. Wellston has never been there before, mistakes are to be expected.

The fact that the two involved were "regretful" says a lot about their character. I don't believe there was any malice involved and they learned their lesson. Good Luck to Wellston!

This was also my thought last night when I saw this. It would be classless if the coach had told them to score again. If the girl decided on her own to score, then that's just kids being kids. I'm sure she learned from it. Congratulations to Wellston and good luck the rest of the way. Chesapeake returns all but one player next year so the future is bright.

Just one final comment on the Waverly/Chesapeake end of game. I was sitting just to the right of the Wellston bench and when the pass was being thrown to the girl cutting to the basket, I heard more than one coach scream "No, No, No!". Obviously they were unhappy with the act. Glad the girls were regretful. Wellston simply outplayed our girls and deserved the win. Good luck to Wellston the rest of the way. And Peake girls....your future is bright. Just get back to work and there is no reason you can't win the district next year.
