I noticed with Joe Garrett's record it went to the final four every four years. That means he got a group as a freshman and took them to final four their senior year. Now that's some good coachin!

I was going to post this one. My dad played for Arch at Clay High school, and still to this day speaks about his knowledge and coaching almost weekly!

I rarely delete posts, never ban anyone, but will do so if something is just utterly ridiculous and completely off topic. Thanks

My post was serious, and I genuinely feel the guy should be mentioned. However, I do understand that people get butt hurt from time to time and am fully aware that if it happens to be a moderator who is butt hurt they have the authority to delete my posts. I'm okay with that, but just wanted to mention that I was not being sarcastic.

trojandave wrote: Thu Jan 25, 2018 4:44 pm How about Eugene Collins at Portsmouth? Why does he get so little publicity in comparison to so many others mentioned? He coaches at the most decorated program in the history of the SE district, brought the Trojans back from the first losing decade in school history (2000-2009). Immediately in the 2009-2010 season he guided PHS to a 12-7 record, then followed that with 2 consecutive Final 4 appearances in 2011 and 2012. The 2012 team was the last school in the SE district to win a game in the Final 4, finishing state runnerup to Summit Country Day. He also led the Trojans to the 2014 district final and the 2015 regional final. In addition he has 5 sectional titles to his credit, and has been named the D3 Ohio Coach of the Year in 2012, the SEOAL Coach of the Year, and the OVC Coach of the Year. His overall record to date is 147-60 in this his 9th year.

For this decade (2010-present), Collins has the best tournament resume of any coach in the SE district. Yet his name seems to be on the second page of outstanding coaches in the SE district when this topic comes up.

Other outstanding Trojan coaches who won state titles at Portsmouth.........George Heller (1961 Class AA state champions--overall record 224-137), Dick Hopkins (1978 Class AA state champions--overall record 101-34), Joe Suboticki (1988 D2 State Champions--overall record 94-11 in only 4 years!!).....others worth mentioning.......Tom Smith (108-35, 1982-1987), Red Hopkins (168-58, 1926-1936, 1931 Class AA state champions).

Dave, I agree with you, coach Collins has done nothing but win since being hired at Portsmouth, he cares about the program and puts more time in behind the scenes in off season then anyone could imagine and truly does care for the KIDS of PHS ,taking the team to fFlorida every few years not only lets them play good competition but also gives some kids the opportunity to do things like this that would never get to do.

I know there is some great coaches on this list ,I've met many of them and no disrespect to them at all but I wouldn't trade coach Collins and his staff for none of them, with what he's given us in nine years would be hard to replace, its been fun

All in his short tenure at Peebles High School. He is learning by coaching against great coaches Barrick,Beuchler,Collins. I believe he has a very bright future being so young. He started coaching in I think 2009.
Beucler is a great coach, no doubt about it. He has only taken 1 team to the final four. The only school that has had multiple boys teams make it to the final 4 in the SHAC is Lynchburg-Clay (1993 & 2016). Beucler has done a lot for the SHAC and it’s coaches. Arey-Peebles and Matt Carson-Lynchburg Clay have seem to had success vs him and I think that makes Beucler happy to see the new crop of coaches have their teams play hard. Beucler is one of the top disciplined/defensive coaches in the district that’s for sure!

From 1974-1984our old coach Art Myers had one of if not the best regular season winning percentages in the entire state. Including I believe ,back to back undefeated regular seasons and 60 in a row and 79 of 80 in the era of the Justice Twins and Kelly Copeland. He had two Regional teams in 1974 regional final loss to coach Huggins and Indian valley south 41-42. the 1984 team lost in regionals to Columbus Wherle at the fairgrounds.Art went on to Coach at Wilmington and had stellar teams there.

No love for Marc Kreisher? He came in on once in a lifetime talent but still his record was phenomenal
State Semi loss to Holgate at the buzzer
Regional Championship loss to Afrocentric( later they forfeited that title)
State Championship 2006-07
Believe the next year they lost to harvest prep at the barn?

Coach Derrow from wellston not only a great coach but a great man too, I never played for him since I played for combs, but I’ve had had a lot of friends who played for Derrow, his sudden death really brought together the community and showed how much of an impact he made on so many lives
