Back when Ironton won a title in a division burg had never nor will ever be capable of competing in. Correct.yabbadabbadoo wrote: ↑Mon Nov 20, 2023 12:08 pmGolf does have more state titles at Ironton I believe!! Isn't it like 3 for golf and 2 for football, last one being all the way back in 1989 when I think Kirtland didn't even field a team.

I'm lost. Because for 2 years straight all I have read on seops about burg football is they have a "superior culture" and "superior coaching" and I guess if that is true, that means the burg talent just isn't very good. That said I question all 3 aspects.

Burg has never been a dominant football program. Not ever. Not once.
They have won their own region only 3 times in over 25 years. Burg is a middle of the road program.

To have an opportunity to win a state title, you first have to win your region. Burg has only won the region 3 times in over 25 years. Win or lose Ironton has been in more title games in the last 6 years than Burg has in school history. These two programs don't belong in the same sentence in football. Ironton is more consistent and earns way more opportunities. Ironton won 2 states titles in ten years. It took Burg their entire programs history to match that. Ironton will always earn itself more opportunities and success. The only thing similar about these two programs is geography. Ironton is trending up. Burg is falling off.

Example: Irontons w/l record vs Prep next to burgs 0 - 4 record vs Prep.Tri_State79 wrote: ↑Tue Nov 21, 2023 4:56 pmTo have an opportunity to win a state title, you first have to win your region. Furthermore Ironton has earned two titles in stronger divisions and against bigger schools and more talent in their history.Tri_State79 wrote: ↑Tue Nov 21, 2023 4:56 pmTo have an opportunity to win a state title, you first have to win your region. IHS was a bigger school back then. Since they are now in the same division, Burg has a state title where IHS does not.Tri_State79 wrote: ↑Tue Nov 21, 2023 5:00 pmFurthermore Ironton has earned two titles in stronger divisions and against bigger schools and more talent in their history.Tri_State79 wrote: ↑Tue Nov 21, 2023 4:56 pmTo have an opportunity to win a state title, you first have to win your region. I have no idea how many football, basketball, baseball, and softball regional titles Burg has won. Not a clue. But I do know how many state championships they have won. Nothing wrong with regional titles, but Burg has cleared that hurdle many times in many sports. Burg wants the state title!!
So for IHS, a supposedly football power, to be bragging about D5 regional titles… well, that’s quite sad and shows how far the program has fallen.

You can't win state without winning regional and Burg simply doesn't create the opportunity.

Yet they are the team that has recently won a title. Re: 2024 Wheelersburg Pirates
But that math isn't matching for burgs program. If you have only made it beyond your region a total of 3 times in OVER 25 years and you have to make it past ya region to win a title, the mathematical probability of another Burg regional title, let alone a state title, is bordering anomaly status. Ironton on the other hand has been significantly more consistent on a year by year basis against better competition. Burg can't beat the good teams anymore. The program performance wise is trending down.RBH23 wrote: ↑Tue Nov 21, 2023 10:14 pmYet they are the team that has recently won a title. Irontons mathematical probability is significantly higher. These two programs are trending in separate directions.

IHS hasn’t won a state title in over 30+ years. Them winning another would truly be an anomaly.Tri_State79 wrote: ↑Wed Nov 22, 2023 1:44 pmBut that math isn't matching for burgs program. Plus, the recent data shows they aren’t even close to closing the gap with the northern teams despite having more talent.
IHS has hit their peak with their current coaching staff. We have seen no change, no improvement. And no amount of talent is going to get them to a title at this point.

Ahh not so fast. Keep in mind Pendleton is only around 7 years into being an HC. Whereas burgs HC is significantly older and more tenured. The Ironton ceiling is presently higher.RBH23 wrote: ↑Wed Nov 22, 2023 1:54 pmIHS hasn’t won a state title in over 30+ years. Maxie will be missed. Played hard and had a great season. Would of loved to seen him get a few more touches out of the backfield

35 playoff appearances, 16 Regional Final appearances, 8 trips to state semifinals, 2 state titles…. Not to shabby! Comparing Burg to Fairland is laughable ( no disrespect to the Dragons)

Re: 2024 Wheelersburg Pirates
I like the look of next years pirates. Offense will be ready to go day 1. Will miss some of the lineman but they have a good set of backups.
Defense will be challenging but they have some nice players that will be ready to go. The inexperience will show early but the strength of pirate teams year in and out is the defense. I do wish the pirates would be more aggressive in blitzing but they will always be sound and disciplined.
Special teams will be fine as well.
