Yes, no play-in game. Too bad it had to go all the UP to the WV Supreme Court to decide today. So games start Friday.
Re: HS Playoffs in WV Threatened By Litigation
The worst part, St. Marys was on the field warming up when the news was made on the decision. What a crappy way to basically be told "Thanks for driving the 2 hours to get here. Now turn around, go home, and turn your stuff in. Seasons over."TomcatFootball11 wrote: ↑Tue Nov 19, 2024 6:14 pmI just saw a play in game got canceledJeaux Burreaux wrote: ↑Tue Nov 19, 2024 5:55 pm Playoffs will start this Friday/Saturday. I’m confused by this. Wasn’t everything on hold pending the Supreme Court ruling? Did St. Mary’s & Tolsia arrange the play-in themselves or were other play ins scheduled/halted? Was the winner planning on playing again Friday (because of the ruling had been different, and play ins were ordered by the Supreme Court, wouldn’t they have likely been set up for this Friday)?Yowhat wrote: ↑Tue Nov 19, 2024 9:41 pmThe worst part, St. Marys was on the field warming up when the news was made on the decision. I'm surprised St. Mary's isn't fighting it. Then again, it may not just be worth it.Yowhat wrote: ↑Tue Nov 19, 2024 9:41 pmThe worst part, St. Marys was on the field warming up when the news was made on the decision. The state Supreme Court did rule, and their ruling was that the classification system that was in force at the start of the season, as imperfect and unfair as if may be, is in force for the playoffs.
Really no other possible ruling could have been made and have the fall sports playoffs proceed in any orderlh and timely manner.

Re: HS Playoffs in WV Threatened By Litigation
I saw that. The ruling came down right before the St Mary’s game, that’s why they called it off. I didn’t understand why they were there to play in the first place considering the Supreme Court had NOT ruled at that point.Zahns Corner wrote: ↑Wed Nov 20, 2024 12:33 pmenigmaax wrote: ↑Wed Nov 20, 2024 9:07 amI’m confused by this. After looking around a little bit, it appears a Wayne County judge had ordered the game to occur before Wednesday. All of the other cases got out on hold pending the Supreme Court ruling but apparently this judge didn’t feel like he needed to wait?
What a goofy bunch of people in this whole thing.

It was the state Supreme Court ruling on it; there was nowhere else to fight it.TomcatFootball11 wrote: ↑Wed Nov 20, 2024 10:52 amI'm surprised St. Mary's isn't fighting it. Then again, it may not just be worth it.

I used to live along the WV - VA border in the Allegheny Highlands, generally a beautiful area with great people until egos are involved. Then the old saying comes to mind. WV is not a state, it is a condition.
