SVC 2020/2021 🏀🏀🏀
Re: SVC 2020/2021 🏀🏀🏀
This has been an interesting discussion. Stats obviously is the major factor in POY, but more importantly, I would look at the individual game stats and how did the player(s) perform against the better teams versus the lesser teams. Without having all of that information at hand, my vote would be for Bennett.

How could you make a vote without having the information at hand that you said you would look at to decide the POY?mikepike wrote: ↑Fri Feb 12, 2021 9:47 am This has been an interesting discussion. It has to be a co-poy this year. I don’t see how you can give it to Bennett over Little or Little over Bennett. If Unioto or Adena would of won the league outright that alone would would of been the determining factor.

Couldn’t agree more Estep showed me much more than Grubb this year.mlittle wrote: ↑Thu Feb 11, 2021 3:55 pmI would have Estep over Grubb for PV. I believe he’s the best player on that team. Nothing against grubb. I just think Estep brings more on both ends and is overall betternodumpinpike wrote: ↑Thu Feb 11, 2021 3:48 pm Several great players in the SVC

It truly makes NO sense to determine a POY by which team wins the league. Now if the leagues best player happens to be on the league winning team , then he or she deserves it. POY should be determined by the whole player. Not by the best team. The BEST team will win the league.

Not agreeing or disagreeing but how has it been done in the past? In most sports and most levels it’s often not done that way.nodumpinpike wrote: ↑Fri Feb 12, 2021 1:27 pm It truly makes NO sense to determine a POY by which team wins the league. Hard to determine the whole player when each coach maybe only sees a kid play in 1/10th of their games.

Also, lets be honest, POY is somewhat of a career achievement award, even though it shouldn't be.

That's a good point also. But I believe there are several ways they can see a POY candidate. Stats, scouting, live streaming and other coaches input about he or she's character on and off the court, are they coachable, does he or she put the teams needs ahead of their own. These are the plethora of things that should go into determining POY for any league or any sport. Everyone says you shouldn't go on stats alone. I fully agree with that. The WHOLE player needs to be looked at and evaluated. Because this young man or lady is who is representing YOUR league until the next athlete is chosen. Just my 2 pennies worth.

I agree with this. But it has to be taken into account at some point. If player A averages 23 points per game and his team is in 3rd and player B averages 13 per game and his team wins the league then you can argue for player A. But in this case all 3 kids are averaging within a point of each other so the winner of the league has to play a factor. It always has. Swingle won it a few years ago and team came in 3rd. But again he separated himself from the packnodumpinpike wrote: ↑Fri Feb 12, 2021 1:27 pm It truly makes NO sense to determine a POY by which team wins the league. Just look at the girls side. Bayse is clearly the best player in the league. They didn’t win league and yet she still won. She absolutely separates herself from everyone else. None of those 3 on the boys side have done enough to separate themselves but win more games.

If two players have pretty much equal stats then character and sportsmanship should come into play.

I think we should use game winning touchdown passes as time expires from the past football season to break the tie. Not sure if that happened at all last year but I’d say if it did that would break the tie for me.
