Trojans had a rough day yesterday at the Shawnee Shootout........lost by 20 to Africentric, 25 to Worthington Christian, but only 1 to Columbus Kipp. Really good competition, and I am always impressed by the quickness and athleticism of the big city kids. Nothing around here compares to it.

PHS will be back at the Shawnee Shootout on Saturday, scheduled still TBD.

Is the ole mighty legendary coach going to grace us with his presence on Saturday?
Didn't see him at all at Shawnee game 1

Portsmouth finished the Shawnee Shootout with an 0-6 record. 0-3 on Thursday and 0-3 on Saturday. Here are the results:

Thursday: Lost to Columbus Africentric by 20, lost to Worthington Christian by 25, lost to Columbus Kipp by 1.
Saturday: Lost to Columbus Beechcroft by 2, lost to Cincinnati Western Hills by 16, lost to Columbus Centennial by 5.

Never can recall the Trojans going winless in a shootout with that many games, but despite the 0-6 record, they did actually play some very competitive basketball in most of the games vs. some really good teams.

PHS did split with Waverly 4 quarters last Wednesday in a scrimmage at PHS. I thought they actually played better at Shawnee considering the competition.

Looking ahead, what would be my projected starting lineup for 2024-25? Things can change of course, but here goes with next year's class listed:

G: Connie Thomas 5-9 JR
G: Malachi Loper 5-10 SR
G: Dayquan Woods 5-11 JR
F: Logan Allen 6-2 JR
C: Luke Stine 6-5 SR

First off the bench: Dontavion Parker, 5-10 JR, Jayden Brewer, 6-0 SR, Leland Scurlock 5-10 JR, Olynshay McKinley 6-4 JR.

And for those wondering if Coach Lisath was there Saturday, he wasn't. Not speculating anything at all. Coach Aaron Smith did a very credible job coaching the Trojans. All the kids that participated got PT.

Compared to last year, it's been awful quiet this summer compared to last year hearing about The Trojans.

Hoopster98: Here's something that might generate quite a bit of interest.......

From the OHSAA.org website: Dayton Northridge is looking for two games, preferably at home; willing to travel if needed. If anyone is interested please contact [email protected].

This was posted on 7/8/24.

What is going on? I thought Jeff was our coach. Is he still our coach? Is he the coach now at Northridge? He didn't coach the team during this past June 2024 which I thought was very unusual, given that last June 2023 Jeff was all in with the team, but this year he was in absentia. Not only me, but quite a few people I've talked to are wondering about this.

Some clarification about Jeff's status would be greatly appreciated. I know Jeff is a poster on this site; maybe he can give us some definitive answers as to his current status.

Thanks for the info. Later it goes on the more it hurts the program unless things have already been said to some staff members. Not to do anything at all with the team this summer sounds like a decision has been made. The kids deserve to know and maybe they do. What about the 3 kids that transferred in to play for him? Will they go back?

I’m not trying to start rumors or anything, as I know you aren’t Dave, but something fishy is going on. What you posted raises a red flag, I looked on their school website and he’s listed as director of operations/assistant sup. You’d think the school would for sure have updated that after he left? He has a Twitter he doesn’t use much, but that’s listed in his Twitter bio, as well as Linkden. I’m not saying people have to change those things but you’d think you’d update your school at least. Absent all summer, hmmmm

He was still working at Northridge so that would not change.

He never quit his job as assistant superintendent/director of operations, he only resigned as their basketball coach. Rumor has it he has been the acting superintendent up there for a few months, I can’t confirm or deny that. He was in attendance for the Kipp game at PHS during the Shawnee Shootout, I seen him talking to Bendolph and Womack before tipoff.

I see, that’s my fault. I just assumed he left there altogether after last summer I seen they were looking for him a job at Portsmouth. Clearly that never happened. Have to wonder why he didn’t apply or wasn’t chosen at the superintendent at Portsmouth since he’s clearly qualified and the job was vacant. I always find it weird when guys coach at one school but teach or work at another.

I’ve been told Portsmouth wouldn’t allow him to coach and hold an administrative position. That source also said he asked about possibly applying for the AD job, and Portsmouth said they wanted to fill it internally. He’s made such a huge impact in a single season, and from what he’s told numerous people he really desires to be at Portsmouth, but he needs a job before he can completely leave Dayton. Keeping fingers crossed they get it figured out soon, because he definitely has out program trending in the right direction.

From what I have heard from a very good source, the kids that have transferred are staying at PHS. They have developed a good bond among themselves and play well together. Not only that, but Connie Thomas, Dayquan Woods, and Logan Adkins will be starters from what I saw in June. I don't think they want to give up a starting spot. Remember we lost 4 starters so it figures that the 3 transfers would fit in those slots nicely. Malachi Loper and Luke Stine are the heavy favorites to round out the starting 5.

As far as filling the superintendent job in house doesn't make since , because for one the last one "Scott Duty " never did live in the county, the two I'm house would have been Doug Pouge who was high school principal or josh Morris? Who was assistant super.

The man they hired was not in house either .

I will support the Trojans either way no matter who's coaching but I agree with Dave if a change is going to happen, the kids have a right to know as does everyone else.

On a different subject.

Have they hired a new athletic director yet?
Joe Albrecht has retired so I would think they position needs filled ASAP.

If AD job open, who would be a better fit than Coach Lisath, since hes looking for position in Portsmouth Schools. I can see about the super if they already have said no coaching if superintendent. But Coach Lisath would be a natural fit for this AD position, if he would choose to probably take a big pay cut from his current positions. So who and where did the new superintendent come from and if I read correctly from above post, it was said AD coming from internal. But it seems these other positions were filled from the outside and internal guy left and AD retired all at once. Best wishes and good luck for the Trojans!

... USUALLY BOE's have already hired the staff/coaches for the upcoming school year ... was Coach Lisath hired as the Head Boys Basketball coach for the 2024-25 school year? (I ask this based on usually all of the coaching positions are 1 yr supplemental positions, hired out in the later part of the previous school year - in this case it would be May or at the latest June BOE meetings ) ... also, I THOUGHT that Coach Lisath worked for the department of corrections for his fulltime/day job? I didn't think he worked in the school system at Northridge - am I wrong ?

PT Trojan 59.

You are right about JVD.

Mike,I was told "by reliable source '.Jeff was approved by the board back in May , not sure if he accepted though.

And you are correct on 1 year contract.
The other coaches submit their staff after or end of July.
