Pfloyd's Elite 8 of Southern/SouthEast Ohio- Preseason 13-14
Re: Pfloyd's Elite 8 of Southern/SouthEast Ohio- Preseason 1
A little D2 news - Gallipolis is the team to move from Logan to SE.
Logan - Athens, Warren, Logan Elm, Vinton County, Sheridan, Marietta, New Lexington, Fairfield Union, Meigs
Southeastern - Circleville, Unioto, Miami Trace, Washington CH, Greenfield, Hillsboro, Minford, Gallipolis, Jackson
Going to be some very interesting sectional finals games, even a few good sectional semifinal tilts.

The Southeastern sectional is still very tough, but man that Logan sectional will be a nightmare this year.
Re: Pfloyd's Elite 8 of Southern/SouthEast Ohio- Preseason 1
Yep, it's going to be tough. I'd favor Athens and Warren going into the season in these matchups, but imagine having to play a Logan Elm, Vinton County or up-and-coming Sheridan team for just the right to go to districts? If you have a bad night, you could be in some trouble.
I could maybe see Miami Trace, Circleville, Unioto, Minford playing in the other sectional to get out to districts, with WCH making a strong bid to be in a sectional final.
Should be some packed gyms and great atmospheres.

What this does is make the Jan. 21st game between Athens and Warren even bigger ... IMO, you don't want to play Logan Elm in a sectional final ... the No. 1 seed will be a coveted spot this year - more so than ever before.

Tough isn't the word, I'd say more like BLOODBATH! Pretenders WILL be exposed quickly. Any team loading up on patsies to improve their record will crack like a 'busted pipe" on a cold morning Below the Lancaster/Dixon Line. Warren & Athens may be the favorites to advance from the Logan Sectional but they both better come ready. Combs & Co at Vinton Co along with Logan Elm and Sheridan won't go quietly into the night. Seeding will be critical. Athens and Warren both have tough schedules are prolly will drop a few games along the way opening the door for somebody to slide into that #2 seed and forcing a Warren/Athens sectional final. WOW!

These coaches know and understand each team in the sectional very well - and how tough the schedules will be for a few of them ... Warren will not be punished if they lose to a Watterson or if Athens loses to ASVSM.
Athens plays Logan Elm in the regular season - that will be a huge game as well as the Warren match-up.
Athens plays VC twice.
There will be lots of head-to-head results to draw upon as opposed to just a win/loss record.

I don't think it matters that much this year because Warren is so good ... but it could be a small obstacle somewhere down the line: with Marietta bolting to the ECOL - and Gallia being moved to the other sectional - Warren is now the lone standing team from the SEOAL at the Logan sectional ... a sectional that was once dominated by the SEOAL (Athens, Warren, Marietta, Gallia) ... they pretty much owned the room in terms of voting.
The TVC will have the largest representation this year. (Athens, Vinton County and Meigs).

EXACATLY what I'm worried about. In 2010 Alexander was awarded a seed higher than Belpre after losing twice (the 2nd time 2 days b4 the draw) and having a worse record. Until we get a super sectional coaches will continue to vote in "blocks" and position themselves. The SE District is notorious for this practice. I'm sure there won't be much love for my beloved Warriors in the room come Seeding Sunday.

I believe Athens took one on the chin a few years back as well ... went 19-1, was hosed in the seeding room - and then had to play WARREN up in Logan!

Yea I remember that. Belpre and Warren both got the shaft. NOBODY wanted to play either team.93Bulldog wrote:I believe Athens took one on the chin a few years back as well ... went 19-1, was hosed in the seeding room - and then had to play WARREN up in Logan!
Re: Pfloyd's Elite 8 of Southern/SouthEast Ohio- Preseason 1
... there will be NO need to worry about the Sectional seedings!!! pfloyd will be standing at the door handing out the Elite 8, Treehugger Wannabe, End Table rankings so the powers that be KNOW who the "players" are and who the "pretenders" are ... 93dog/ the SVC crew will be inside asking all of the questions BUT pfloyd will set them straight as to the power rankings that IS ...

Why the closed doors. #1 seed places themselves on the board and everybody follows suit. A super sectional is the fairest way to seed the district. Any draw that's not transparent has the opportunitiy to screw somebody.

HA! Depends how much influence his mafia connections have over him come tournament time ... if I see a few coaches inside the DII Logan sectional room munching on Pizza Crossing pizza - and Athens comes out with the 3 seed - I'll be mighty upset!LetsGoPSU wrote:with pfloyd at the door, I have no reason to be concerned

93Dog, the Pizza Crossing fare will be cold by the time pfloyd could get it down to Jackson for the seeding meeting. I imagine he'd go with LaRosa's in Jackson....yum.
On a serious note, I'm in favor of going to an open draw in every SE District tournament to make sure we get the best teams to district play. Time to join the present and not live in the past. A super sectional would also be better than the current system, like girls soccer does, but the open draw Is the best. It rewards the best teams the most.

I'll never understand why girls soccer can do it, but no one else can. Keep games at SE and Logan and teams select who and where they play. Fans of the teams will still show up to support their team wherever it is.bman wrote:93Dog, the Pizza Crossing fare will be cold by the time pfloyd could get it down to Jackson for the seeding meeting. This is why the SEO District needs to go away from the bracket seeding and get with the rest of the state. The coaches need to remember why they are there. I have seen this for the past 15 yrs and it is criminal sometimes what goes on.93Bulldog wrote:I don't think it matters that much this year because Warren is so good ... but it could be a small obstacle somewhere down the line: with Marietta bolting to the ECOL - and Gallia being moved to the other sectional - Warren is now the lone standing team from the SEOAL at the Logan sectional ... a sectional that was once dominated by the SEOAL (Athens, Warren, Marietta, Gallia) ... they pretty much owned the room in terms of voting.
