We played Hartley in week one and got thumped. Not making excuses, but new coach graduated 22 seniors, ect.......I have watched a lot of football over the years and Hartley is good. They run a lot of miss-direction and the quarterback throws a nice ball. We had a lot of success running right up the middle with quick hitters. They will score points that's for sure.
I've never been to "The Tank"...since it's a Saturday game I may just make the trip.

Good Luck to both!!

Ironton should be admired for playing a very very difficult schedule. I was going to make some smart ___ remark a couple weeks ago about the similarities between OSU and Ironton (mainly RUN RUN RUN , then run it again and to struggle on the road ) but there is no comparison between I's willingness to schedule up and Osu's willingness to schedule no one. this sounds more like a you're tigerbait post :122246 :122246

i still don't get where everybody thinks ironton is "scheduling up" when they schedule teams like alder and hartley. hartley is a D4 team (just like ironton) and is, in fact, ranked BELOW ironton in the very same region. :? And alder is another D4 team (just like ironton) and is ranked 4th (BELOW ironton) in their region.

how is that scheduling UP ??

how about the D5 teams ironton plays? Fairbanks is a non-descript team in D5 that, other than ironton, plays primarily a D6 schedule and has beaten virtually NOBODY and is ranked 10th in their D5 region...... and wheelersburg, another D5 team that is ranked 7th in their D5 Region.

is THAT scheduling UP ?

the only places where i can see that you might claim (?) that ironton schedules UP ( ) is ashland, a D2 "KENTUCKY" team that ironton usually smashes year in and year out........ and jackson, a D3 team that ironton, likewise, usually rolls over..... and a few other local teams would probably roll over, too.

just because these are "up north" names we don't usually hear around here (hartley and alder), they are STILL D4 teams (just like ironton) and i don't understand the "scheduling UP" terminology given around here.

perhaps Paladin is right..... MOST of the "up north" teams are just superior to most of the river teams and when we play them it is PERCEIVED as "playing up".

i dunno.... just sounds like a lot of ill-labeled chest pounding to me.

jmho of course.

Portsmouth plays FOUR D2 teams and THREE D3 teams and only ONE D5 team. That's SEVEN teams in divisions HIGHER than they are.

I believe ironton play THREE teams in higher divisions and THEY are lauded for "playing up". ??

even little Symmes Valley plays FOUR teams in divisions higher than them ..... and have already played and BEATEN three of them... :)

hartley BARELY beat a little D6 columbus grove team by one TD... 42-35. :122246 :122246

I don't think playing UP is always about playing higher Divisions but could be in some eyes, scheduling better Teams is a better way to look at it. Alder and Hartley are, in My eyes much better Teams and would be considered scheduling up because of their TALENT level. Alder #4 in their Region, have you seen their Region??? #4 is pretty darn good. Theirs a good chance that the State Championship runs through Reg 16 this year just like the last 2 have.

that's my whole question... WHY are they considered better teams? they are ALL in the D4 category aren't they and should have more or less equal talant pools shouldn't they?

why?? why are they better teams ?? like i said, they are BOTH D4 just like ironton. so what is the justification for calling them "better teams" ?

you can call it "scheduling up" if it makes you feel better but you haven't shown me the justification for it and i still think it is just a perceived thing.... thrown out there and perpetuated by tiger chest thumpers like you'retigerbait.

From what I saw against Alder vs. Ironton. It was completely the opposite, they just man-handled us up front and that allowed their passing game to be dynamic when they used it. If you try to come in one dimensional and just try to sling it all over the place, you better have on helluva quarterback and receiving core. Just ask Ashland about that.

And also, you don't know what you're messing with when it comes to Tres Wilks. When he is on his game, he is a man amongst boys out there. With him coming off not playing the last two games, I look for him to be on a mission with the rest of this team. Just a warning ;-)

This is hilarious. I guess South Point, Rock Hill, and Failrand have the same talent pools as Stubenville, Columbus DeSales, and Akron St. Vincent St Mary's? So if your a D5 team and schedule any of the three teams from each group you have scheduled equally? Brilliant, just Brilliant.

And if you put Cardinal Mooney, Coldwater, Ursaline, Newark Catholic and Versailles on your schedule you are scheduling down? I guess that would be a pud schedule compared to playing big teams like Greenup Co., Boyd Co., Huntington High, and a few other local schools that can't beat anyone?

I guess for that matter, why can't the local teams beat little ole D4 Ironton, that is 5 boys away from being D5? The talent pools are the same. How the hell has Lutz won so many games? Oh that's right, he must be scheduling puds like CAPE, DeSales and Columbus Watterson, small schools with equal talent.

Why don't they just flip a coin to determine who wins these games. If your enrollment is higher, you should get more flips of the coin. If a D6 team plays a D1, the D6 team has to win 6 straight coin flips to determine the winner, or else the D1 team wins.

I remember when we played Toledo Libby, D1, we were beating them 42-0 at the half. How could that be possible scheduling a team "up north" and a D1 one at that. Freak of nature I guess.

Keep calling Ironton's schedule soft, that makes you look like you have more football knowledge than Vince Lombardi. LOL

Is this really Tigers90 under a new screen name. Sure sounds like it.

I have been saying for a while that White is going to be a good back. Nice vision and cut back. I have to give props to Spolgaric, great block, and Taylor is hustling downfield running interference too. Nice play. That would be T-54, on the sound, ready BREAK.

I know one guy on this site that will need that last sentence explained to him, because it is like GREEK to him. Now, he can string a tennis racket in a heart beat though.

WOW again. Why so bitter sportsnut? I have never seen Lutz put a kid on a position because of his name in my life. I think maybe you have a kid that wanted to transfer to Ironton, but would most likely only carry the water bottles, or wind up on the TENNIS team maybye?

Not sure why you want to hate on our QB, unless you are bitter?
