9 bucks for playoff tickets
Re: 9 bucks for playoff tickets
Ask your AD, your school should be promoting this benefit, let's just take a simple straight figure of 15% (this number has varied and has been as high as 25% in the past).
Every year fans leave thousands of dollars on the table that would go straight to the schools. Think about it, if 2,000 fans attend a game from Ironton (not picking on Ironton, just using as example of a school that travels well, but does not buy a lot of pre-sale) but Bob Linn only sells 750 tickets to those people directly from Ironton, that is $1,500 dollars not going to Ironton High School at the figure of 15%, $2,000 at 20%, and $2,500 at 25%. Times that figure by two or three weeks and that is a lot of money that fans are leaving on the table. However it is much easier to (b)itch and moan than to actually do something productive.

Re: 9 bucks for playoff tickets
We were told at Sheridan last week that the school doesn't get any of the pre-sale money anymore, it is just a way to make tickets more readily available and reasonable for fans following their own team. Is this true? Seemed far fetched to me. Either way, if you have the cash what better way to spend $9? My gf made me take her to the Miranova in Cbus for dinner a few months back, the cheapest drink on the menu was more expensive haha....needless to say I was a little out of my element.

Some of you act like these games are 100% profit for the OHSAA, there are many expenses that go into these games, there have been play-off games that have lost money, and several every year simply breakeven. Also keep in mind that Football and Basketball have to support all of the other championships that the OHSAA sanctions. Do you really believe that the Regional and State Tournaments make money in the following sports? Tennis, Track, State Cross, Golf, Bowling, Swimming and Diving, Soccer? The revenue has to support the other programs. Now I do understand that many of you would do away with the so called Olympic Sports, but athletics is not about just a few athletes.

Re: 9 bucks for playoff tickets
Cant speak for football tourney games, never hosted one but as for basketball during the sectional tournament at Waverly which is ran by the Southeast Ohio District Board, any presale ticket netted you 25% for each game. In 08' when Piketon made its final four run, the athletic department raked in a good amount of money for its 6 games in the sectional (Waverly), district (OU convo). At the regional level, the local district hands it off to the state board, and guess what, presales for regional (OU convo) and state (Schott Center) was only 15% for presale. At the state and lower levels, you do get reimbursed for meals, up to $7 a kid, mileage and hotel costs for the set number of players allowed on a tourney roster.
We made more money off of the sectional and district presales than the regional and state. I personally handed the ohsaa a school check for $15,000 for our presale for the final four game.

Re: 9 bucks for playoff tickets
And the OHSAA cut you a check back for $2,250 for pre-sale, plus $2.00 per mile for Cheerleaders and the Team so another $160.00, meals at what $15 per person up to 18 people plus cheerleaders so tack on another $270.00 for meals, Your lodging is based on the quoted rate of what you spent just turn in the receipt, and kick in your incidentals at a few hundred bucks, and you go back a $3,000.00 for that one game. That is not a bad take! FYI: Mileage for Football games are more than mileage for basketball. In all you $3,000 profit is a good take.eagles73 wrote:Cant speak for football tourney games, never hosted one but as for basketball during the sectional tournament at Waverly which is ran by the Southeast Ohio District Board, any presale ticket netted you 25% for each game. FYI: On your comments about the District tournament, it is my understanding that every District does the finances different and that the Southeast gives the most generous opportunities to make money. If that is true hats off to them!

The expenses you are quickly throwing up still doesn't amount to much. OK so they reimburse for mileage and meals. Together that might add up to $500K. Figure the average team travels 100 miles (200 round trip) and you're feeding an average of 100 people per team (I'm being very generous on that). Maybe $600k for mileage and meals for the entire tourny.
I also understand that football and basketball has to pay for the other tourny's (as I said in my post), but I guarantee you the tennis tourny does not cost that much to put on as well as the other "olympic" sports.
I also understand that not all football playoff games make money. But as a whole it's looking like its a cash cow, and I'm questioning where is the money being spent. If OHSAA takes in $7mm for the football playoffs alone (and no proof suggests that it doesn't), and it costs $1mm to put on... where is that $6mm going? To hold a tennis tourny? lmao.
Then you lose me when you state that Ironton travels 2,000 people to a game. No way. That's why I can't believe anything that the OHSAA publishes because they have to be lying about attendance figures. Ironton is as rabid a fan base as there is, and according to 2009 census figures there's 11,000+ people in Ironton. Only 2000 are going to a playoff game? I've been to an Ironton playoff game. They travel a lot more than that.
It is ironic that the biggest OHSAA appologist on this thread named himself Pol Pot, a communist leader that oversaw the killing of millions of people. Far be it from anybody to question an authoritative organization. We wouldn't want that to happen now would we?
Re: 9 bucks for playoff tickets
SELONMC: I am not an appologist for anyone, simply stating a few facts that are by some willfully overlooked.
And my 2,000 person figure was simply a guess, a nice round number to use for simple math, the number was in no way meant to measure a real statistic.....And I used to wonder why they had to put the warnings on coffee cautioning some that it is hot, after meeting you I understand.

Schools can charge whatever they want in the regular season.bilco2 wrote:why do some schools charge $6.00 at reg games when most charge $5.00? ironton for one.
I find that the cheaper it is to get into the games the more I spend on Conccessions.
Re: 9 bucks for playoff tickets
Actually according to their website the OHSAA does have guidelines for what schools can charge, but yes it is up to each individual school to charge in those guidelines.

Man NewLex/Sheridan did you know which fork to use at a place like that. Last time I spent money like that I ended up marrying the girl. It was worth it though. You ought to park in the cornfield at Sheridan they have a deputy that harass the people almost the whole night for watching from their trucks.

Re: 9 bucks for playoff tickets
This is the first year I will not go to any playoff games where my team is not playing Nine dollar tickets coupled with close to three bucks for gas has me staying at home watching on tv and listening on the radio.
Who else has done this because of the ticket price?

Dag gone, someone struck a nerve within Pol Pot. Lol. I guess we see who may have their hands in the fire with OHSAA huh? Looks like the moral of the story is get out and go buy your presale tickets at the school if that is the only way money goes back to them. Heck with buying them at the gate and letting all your money go back to OHSAA.
