Well worth the trip to Athens, outstanding game, although I was hoping for some "extra" basketball haha. However, incredible ending.

Congratulations to the Valley Indians on the win..........and to the Trojans on an outstanding 19-5 season. This Trojan alum is very proud of our boys wearing the Red and Blue.

I had posted on SEOPS before the season that Valley was the favorite in D3 to win the district, and that Portsmouth was one of the prime contenders.......and it played out that way yesterday. These two teams were the best of SE D3, and they staged a classic district championship game with an dramatic ending.

Even though the Trojan Nation is suffering emotionally after that difficult loss, I want to offer this looking ahead to the 2014-2015 season........I have Portsmouth as the favorite in SE D3 next year, with 7 of the top 8 back, and making it to the district finals this year, taking one of Valley's best teams to the buzzer. PHS finished 4th in pfloyd's Elite 8 this season, and should be primed to be 2014-2015 preseason top 2 or 3.

The best is yet to come for the Portsmouth Trojans!!

VERY well said! I hated to see either of these teams lose. PHS is going to be a BEAST over the next couple of years!

This was truly a classic high school basketball game.

That Portsmouth team was legit! Ky're Allison will go down as one of the best to play in Scioto County. He is that good. The Valley seniors took their game to a tad higher level down the stretch last night and really got after in on the glass. The Valley guards did an outstanding job on Sky Oliver and hit big shots when they needed to.

I can't say enough about my Indians! They just found a way to get it done. The 23 wins are a school record and I don't think they are satisfied at all.

Yesterday was a great day to be an Indian.

… as has been stated a number times this was a classic … both TEAMS took shots at getting separation during the flow of the game, both TEAMS took and gave their best shots … right down to the last possession of the game … THAT is how a district final should be played - I was smiling from watching the play at both ends of the floor by both TEAMS the whole game … Congratulations to the Indians … pfloyd will be back in the cheap seats to support the SE District teams in regional action Wednesday evening …

… Crab's_brother I know you might not believe this but before the Indians took the floor in that last 18 secs of play I "snapped my wristband" you gave me and said "show me a sign - nows the time" … gave me chills when Flowers shot went in - nothing but net …

Floyd - Don't think for one second that Josh was in our hearts all weekend. I teared up after the game yesterday just thinking about how big a grin that cat had looking down into the Convo. I know that there were 3 wristbands being worn on the bench and I counted at least 5 players with them on before they dressed for the game. Josh not being here to see this is bittersweet, but I know what he would be saying. It was always about the kids to him.

I will say this about Chris Flowers....that kid is clutch as they come. I know Floyd has seen us a handful of times this year and two of those games have involved bombs from Chris at the buzzer. One yesterday to send the Indians to the sweet 16 and another to send the Athens game to a second OT. Throw in the 2 free throws on Saturday and you have seen that kid hit some big ones. Chris also was the first player to come up to me after the game the day that Josh passed away to ask how I was. He has a huge heart and comes from a great family.

Really enjoyed being able to see you and speak with you a few times this season... I love reading your work every week. You kindness and thoughtfulness in regards to Josh meant so much, especially seeing how your only interaction with each other was through a message board. I can say that his memory weighed heavy on my mind as we celebrated after such an amazing basketball game. His input, knowledge, and historical perspective are greatly missed on SEOPS.

Also I want to say a little something about this group of seniors. I've been around all of these kids since they were "little Indians" and have had the pleasure of coaching them their entire HS career. We broke each other in, as they were freshmen players and I was a rookie JV coach. It has been wonderful to watch them grow as players and their success has left its mark on Valley athletics. I feel they have a lot of basketball to go this season, but I'm already missing them! Great athletes but better kids! I can't even tell you how thankful I am to have been along for the ride... Four years, I'll never forget!

Got to pimp my prediction which was only off by one point! But congrats to Valley on a great win...glad to see this team live up to expectations. As for Portsmouth, their best years lie ahead and I'd venture to say they'll be back in Columbus next year or two.*
