I agree. Joe Pa wont last long after this. If the over/under was 12 months, I think I would have to take the under.
Re: It's official...PSU forces Joe Paterno to RETIRE NOW!
I am wondering how the wife of Jerry Sandusky didn't know about some of the abuse that was going on in the basement of their home all of those years? Reading the Grand Jury's findings was enough to make even the most hardened person sick. I feel for the families of all the victims in this mess. They are the ones being over looked. If their names are found out, they will likely be threatened and abused even more by being persecuted as the ones that caused Joe Pa to loose his job even though they were the ones whose lives have been changed forever.
I hated to see Joe Pa go out with this kind of ending. I am not a fan of Penn State, but I did respect the Coach. He had become a living icon for them with no limit to his powers and influence. A simple phone call to the police when the GA witnessed the abuse in the shower; it would have saved more young boys from being abused and Joe Pa and his good name would have been left intact. Now he will be forever linked to the Shower Abuse Scandal. This will take a heavy toll on Joe Pa and could lead to his death.
The whole story has not been told in this mess, if some of the other stuff comes out that a respected reporter is working on related to the Charity Organization and it's members, it will be the end to Penn States Athletic's.

Re: It's official...PSU forces Joe Paterno to RETIRE NOW!
This was brought up today at work. The gym I work at in the morning is filled with mostly members in their 60's and above. We were discussing this and one of the ladies said you know watching what is going on does anyone, but me think that Pateno is slightly out of it. Like he doesnt understand the severity of the case you know. Maybe its his advanced age he just dont get it yet.
What do you guys think?
Vlad, the lawyer for the victims said the same thing you said. They believed the university should have let them decide his fate. Now they will be known not only as victims, but the guys who got JoePa fired.

Tiger please go away on this thread.
I can't stand you defending Joepa anymore. Go be a scum bag with him.
Joe did the minimum he could do. In many professions if you don't report child abuse or neglect then you can be charged along with the person being accused.
Joe had the obligation to do more and failed to do so. He had enough circumstantial evidence to call the authorities or at minimum encourage the asst to go to the authorities. JoePa is a scum bag for doing the very minimum. I am tired of hearing people say, well he didn't see it. Who cares?!?! If someone tells you they saw someone get shot you say well either you call the police or I am. This is not a minor violation that needs to "just" be reported to his superior.
It is sad that people feel what he did was "good enough". If Joe would have done what he should have done in the first place he would be immortalized as an even bigger hero then he is today.

Re: It's official...PSU forces Joe Paterno to RETIRE NOW!
He did report it to who he was supposed to and they reported it to the foundation which was suppose to call the authorities. The foundation had him investigated by the proper government agency when it happened in 1998.
Someone getting shot is totally different than this situation. If someone gets shot and you report it even a day later there is still physical evidence you cant hide a gunshot wound. In this case the time to call the cops was the moment it happened which was not done. Now when McQueary waited to tell anyone the time frame for a quick arrest was over. Now you need to investigate the entire incident which they did. You have to follow proper procedures if you dont and you go off all emotionally crazy like you want to and say the entire thing turned out wrong then Sandusky sues the entire University for libel and slander or he is able to shut the victim up and nothing is found out. By going through the proper channels you now get a governement agency on the case and they are able to investigate and get him for more than just one victim.
God gave us the ability to reason and a little something called common sense which now days is becoming less common, but you have to use them and seperate yourself from the emotional aspect to actually see the situiation.
Maybe Paterno should have followed up, but its not his fault the governement and the school failed to uncover what was happening till now.

This is the second thread TC-71 has supported child abusers. Makes you wonder.
Re: It's official...PSU forces Joe Paterno to RETIRE NOW!
You see the disconnect that you have for CHILD MOLESTATION is disturbing. No someone getting shot is exactly the equivalent to a child being molested. If you don't see that then there is something wrong with you.
Yes he passed the information along to the AD, minimum he had to do. MINIMUM!
He should have called the police or instructed his grad asst to. He is darn lucky he is not in a profession like education (oh wait he is an educator) where if you don't report it to the authorities (child welfare office or police) then you will also be prosecuted along with the person(s) being accused. There was enough circumstantial evidence for him to call the police or tell his grad asst to.
It is a real shame we have people who will defend someone who is complete scum because their status as a coach.
What you are trying to describe is complete and utter garbage. When there is circumstantial evidence and the witness is credible you either encourage the person who saw it first hand to go to the authorities or you do it yourself (first hand verbatim coming from a lawyer). You can do it anonymously through crime stoppers. Who do you think the police are? You don't think they investigate?
You are really starting to make me think you lack the common sense you claim to have.

Re: It's official...PSU forces Joe Paterno to RETIRE NOW!
JoePa, MCqueary, and any other moron would have to be totally naive to not know the coverup was on. If I wasn't being interviewed by LEGAL authorities within a day or so of reporting to the admin, then the next LOGICAL step would be to contact law enforcement. At a minimum, they chose not to inquire about what had been done with the information provided. At the most, they conspired to coverup the act and allowed other children suffer by the animal!! Either way, these two idiots deserve what they get! Mcqueary doesn't belong anywhere near the program. As long as he is on staff, HE will be the FACE of Ped State!!

Re: It's official...PSU forces Joe Paterno to RETIRE NOW!
I'll say it again, if McQueary told JoePa that it was Joe's grandson in the shower, it would have been handled differently.
It was somebody's grandson, and Joe has made a legacy of being a father figure and developing young men. Joe had an obligation to take the extra step. As do all proper human beings. It's not about what your legally mandated to do, it's about doing what's right.
This goes for everyone involved. Every one of their heads should role, not just Joe's, but also including Joe's!

Thats my point right there. Joe Paterno is not the one on trail for child abuse yet you and the rest of you are lumping him in with Sandusky the real villian. Paterno is not the one on trial Sandusky is, but because of the way the Board of Trustees went about things on firing Paterno you all now are seeing him in the same view as Sandusky. The media is vilifying him and all of you are buying into it. I feel sorry for all of you that you are being duped in vilifying him as well. I feel sorry for those of you that cant see through this and are taking your eyes off the real villian Sandusky.

Sandusky is the villain, but JoePa's lack of action, enabled the further molestation of more boys.
This makes JoePa nearly as bad!

He was part of the cover-up, plain and simple. He knew his FRIEND was a child abuser. Children were abused because of JoePa's inaction. Hopefully, your children will never be abused because of the inaction of others. I suppose that would be different though. I feel sorry for your children!

McQueary is done!
He's on administrative leave, but had this to say to his team via a phone call.
He's on administrative leave, but had this to say to his team via a phone call.
.On Friday afternoon, according to two team sources, new receivers coach Kermit Buggs gathered his players in a room at the PSU football complex and allowed them to talk with McQueary on a speaker phone.
During a brief and emotional conversation, McQueary told them, “I wanted to let you guys know I'm not your coach anymore. I'm done.â€
When players asked, "Coach, where are you? Can we see you?" McQueary responded, “No, I'm actually in protective custody. I'm not in State College.â€

Cover-up how is it a coverup when he told the proper people? He told his superiors what he knew and he directed them to Mcqueary who saw it first hand. If it was a coverup it wasnt Paterno it was the others involved.

Paterno knew in 98, he knew in 02, and he's known several times since!
There is no superior to Joe at PSU.
Why are you so caught up on just doing the minimum?

If you look back on my 1st post I said he needed to go, but not the way they let him go. Thats what Ive been maintaing all along. In hindsight which is 20/20 yes probably needed to so more if he knew then what he knows now that the AD wasnt going to do anything.

Re: It's official...PSU forces Joe Paterno to RETIRE NOW!
Then how would you propose they let him go?
How do you do it and not make a mockery of child abuse victims?
In light of this scandal, PSU will lose several hundreds of millions of dollars, the Board is responsible to PSU, not to Joe. It's their duty to save the school. They did their job.
I do think it should have been done in person, not by phone.

.........and you can probably bet, because of JoePa's inaction, most blue chippers will find somewhere else to play. He, in essence, has destroyed what he built. He'll have no one to blame but himself!
