Every school in SE Ohio has this problem. But only a handful of school districts (Logan-Hocking, Vinton, Morgan, etc) cover such a LARGE geographic area.

My school Whiteoak is 43 miles wide and the high school is only 3 miles from the western border. We only have 74 boys and 78 girls and I'd guess 1/4 of them live 30+ miles away making it impossible to play as that is also a poor part of the district and they'd need $12-$15 a day in gas just to get kid to and from after school. Not feasible.

tell Logan to call Athens. Week 6 is open for Athens next year. I'm sure Athens wouldn't mind beating them by 100. Get real

There was a reason Logan waited to 2015 to renew this series ;-)

so tell us, barring the last fews years when was the last time athens beat logan in football?? and if they would dominate every team in the SEOAL like beasts of the southeast, then when was there last league title in the SEOAL?? athen just has good classes going through right now. good enough to win outside of the TVC. once that talent leaves that wont happen as must.

The problem is the TVC and the SEOAL letting Athens compete in both leagues and letting them pick and choose the sports. Athens is in both leagues now so they have everything they want. They have manipulated both of you so they wont go anywhere as long as you let them. Makes both leagues weaker!!

Remember Athens ended the series, not Logan. Athens wanted NO part of the Chiefs in '08 or '09 and only wanted to talk to Logan starting in 2011 after the Chiefs went 3-7 in 2010.

All my Athens friends here keep reminding me how "cyclical" their TVC dominance is. I wonder what they would think about they "cycle" Logan has been in since consolidation (1967), Logan is 30-7-2 against the Bulldogs. That's one heck of a cycle. A handful of losses weren't going to change the Purple's complete dominance of Athens on the gridiron.

Also, Logan cannot call Athens for a game week 6. We have a league game that week against Jackson.

Track, cross country, wrestling, golf in shear numbers Athens will always win these. As far as local kids remember even though they have been here for years, how many of those players in football and basketball would be here without Ohio U and Ohio U football needing coaches? Athens is very talented but let's face it, it the rest of the leagues fault for letting them in anyhow. They will be down again, but never down far enough to not keep winning titles in this league. I'd say they need to start selling bricks to build a new building to hold all their banners.
This was posted on the other thread. Some truth spoke from and athens poster. But once again they belong to both leagues..

You are completely clueless. I actually feel sorry for you.
Or you are not aware of the facts.

Athens lost to SEOAL Champions in 2011 (Jackson) and 2012 (Gallipolis) and did not play the champion in 2013 (Logan).

We can speculate till the cows come home, but I choose to live in a world with the facts. If that makes me clueless, then it must make you a dreamer.

Everyone knows Logan wouldn't compete against athens. Be another game where athens would pick the score. 80 something to 21. Maybe after athens and Logan play in 2015, they will make up and athens will go back into the seoal

I think Athens is becoming more polarizing than Tiger Woods and Tim Tebow put together ...

I believe 1965 was their last undefeated season as a member of the SEOAL (9-0).

They were also unbeaten in 1950 (9-0). I have them as 8-0 in 1944 and 1943, but I could easily be missing some non-league games for those seasons as I relied on what was reported in the Logan Daily News at the time.

Post consolidation, Athens best records were:

1967 - 7-2
1968 - 7-1-1
1971 - 9-1
1987 - 8-2
1989 - 8-2

Again, this comes from my SEOAL research so I won't guarentee 100% accuracy. I'm sure someone like Tom Metters from the Messenger or Randy Heath down in Jackson could correct or verify.

I think Athens was unbeaten in league play during........1925/43/44/46...if not for the year... also in 1968 they had a tie went something like 6-0-1.........I'm sure all of these were league play

Talk about a Week 6 opening for Athens , I see that week was a TVC game for them. They played Wellston this year, a TVC game. What, now Athens is dropping league games so they can get a piece of Logan ?

Sounds like more false bravado ! 8)

7 teams in the TVC-Ohio next year ... one team will have a "bye" - and will need to find a non-league opponent - somewhere between weeks 5 and 10.

which is why bringing R.V. into the league makes no sense.

Now lets look at the Big Sports...not including Football

VOLLEYBALL
2008 - Alexander
2009 - Alexander/Athens
2010 - Alexander
2011 - Athens
2012 - Alexander
Alexander wins 4 out of 5 years plus shares 1 with Athens...detrimental?

BOYS BASKETBALL
2008/09 - Vinton County
2009/10 - Athens
2010/11 - Vinton County
2011/12 - Vinton County
2012/13 - Vinton County/Athens
Vinton County wins 4 out 5 years plus shares 1 with Athens...again detrimental?

GIRLS BASKETBALL
2008/09 - Alexander
2009/10 - Alexander
2010/11 - Alexander
2011/12 - Athens/Vinton County
2012/13 - Athens
Alexander snags 3 titles, Athens shares 1 and wins 1 outright, VC shares 1...not seeing the detrimental part to the League?

BASEBALL
2009 - Athens
2010 - Athens
2011 - Meigs
2012 - Athens
2013 - Athens
Athens does take 4 of the 5 Baseball titles, but Baseball is the schools statistically best program...

SOFTBALL
2009 - Meigs
2010 - Athens
2011 - Meigs
2012 - Athens
2013 - Wellston
Meigs and Athens trade titles in odd years while Wellston earns one last season...pretty competitive ...

Athens has 12 Titles while the other schools have 16 Titles...add in the football and that moves the totals to Athens 15 to League 19 Titles over 2008-2013 seasons...I just have a hard time seeing how Athens is detrimental to the TVC-OHIO...

look at all the teams in the TVC and you just have a hand full winning titles and Athens is there in everyone. Teams times sports is how many chances and Athens has won 15 in five years with an average of 3 a year....that gives the rest of the league with a little over one on the average. One team has won 15 and the other 13 or so has won 19 together.
noreply - I am glad we can a discussion on this. Actually talk without this becoming a Logan/Athens bashfest...
I listed these above to show that in no way has the addition of Athens in the OHIO been Detrimental to the League as stated by BIGHITSINC. Now, Athens winning 15 over the 5 years like you stated, not unheard of, but definitely new. Isn't that a nod to the group of Athletes (Boy/Girls) Athens has had come through? It is not like the other schools programs were chop liver...

Again looking these sports (Including Football)...broken into school years.
2008/09 - 1 League Title
2009/10 - 3 Outright, 2 Shared
2010/11 - 0 Titles
2011/12 - 4 Outright, 1 Shared
2012/13 - 2 Outright, 1 Shared

3 Big Years, 2 years (1 Title & No Title)...

Take Athens out of the League from 2008-2013.
Nelsonville-York dominates Football...
Alexander dominates Volleyball...
Vinton County dominates Boys Basketball...
Alexander dominates Girls Basketball...
Meigs most likely takes Baseball...
Meigs most likely takes Softball until these past 2 years...

It hasn't made the League worse, it has added another contender to a League...
Unlike the addition of River Valley...which the OHIO got stuck with...
