Athens 0

Athens played very solid defensively, but had almost no offense(one great chance, one other good chance) 2 quick goals in each half for DeSales.

Nick Kellogg had 2 goals for DeSales.

DeSales put 3 on us right off the bat last year and then appeared to take the foot off the gas and just posess the ball, and then scored one more real quick in the second half.

Ended up the same score 4-0. Wish we could play public school tourney and let them play thier private school tourney so we could have a chance to get to the state.

18-2 Minford advances to the Regional Final on Saturday, November 1, at 3:00 at Warsaw River View High School vs. 16-3-1 Worthington Christian.

Athens played tough tonight... Desales just simply had too many weapons and wore the Athens team down. The outside fullbacks for Desales were better offensively than many of the forwards we're used to seeing. The kids played hard, but weren't able to get enough offense going to push Desales back some to keep them from overwhelming us and give the defense a break. Athens kept Desales off the board until twenty minutes had gone by and then Desales scored two in two minutes to give themselves a sound lead.

The beginning of the first half actually started really well for Athens, even had a shot on a corner kick cleared off the line by Desales that would have made it 1-2 Desales. After that, Athens was worn down and Desales finsihed them off with two quick goals in the middle of the second half. The result wasn't in doubt, but I did think the boys represented the program well and played hard until the final whistle.
