Reality could hit even before Pendleton leaves:
Let’s start with this year. With a massive senior class and one of the best players in the state, this is the year for IHS to finally win that elusive state title. If that doesn’t happen this year, they have no chance for the foreseeable future. So the game against Wheelersburg in 2024 is a must win. Lose this, and the season could come apart like cheap lawn furniture. Even making the playoffs will be in question.
Same goes for next year. Given what Ironton is losing from this class, if the schedule doesn’t get easier, they will be fighting just for a playoff spot.
Now, to your point, Pendleton is definitely auditioning to get out of Ironton. That is without question. When he leaves, Ironton will lose their top recruiter while being stuck scheduling teams way above their weight class in order to fill a schedule. Will be very sad times at IHS.
And this is why Burg fans are not envious of Ironton. We know it’s a house of cards with Ironton on the verge of not only failing to win a state title, but also failing to make the playoffs most years due to an overpowering schedule. The recruits that have been so instrumental in IHS’s recent success will vanish like a fart in the wind.
You know the funny thing though, on all of it he speaks the truth. Nothing he has said has been fabricated!
The guy throwing the ball to Perkins was pretty good. Carpenter.
3 yr starter and started 2 state championships. Ironton kid.
Keyes wasn’t the best RB on the team. That’s why he didn’t receive the bulk of the carries.
Felder only played in about half the games and didn’t have 500 yds total.
Ironton kids that stood out on that team
Carpenter- U Pike Backup QB
Carter- In transfer portal. 4 star LB committed to UC
Barnes- Great HS LB. 3 yr starter / led Ironton in tackles
Wilson- 3 yr Starter. Pound for pound the best player on team
Young- 3rd WR in rotation/Very good DB/ 3 yr starter
Martin- Starting Corner/. Now plays for Army West Point
That’s just the seniors in that class. Not counting underclassman.
Now let’s compare Wheelersburg class that year to that?
The 2027 class at Ironton may be the best to ever come through by the time it’s all said and done. There’s 15-20 of them. They are the class that has dominated everyone including beating Wheelersburg badly every year. The cupboard stays full.
