That's a good year. lol, Ironton is going to be good as long as they get players in. They would have to be. If Ironton only played with their own players, they'd be in the same boat as Burg. Be good for around here and then go as far as they can.
Ironton has a lot of pressure to go away from the OVC and schedule up. They will need more help, even more than what they have now to compete with prep in the next few years.
Not taking anything away from Prep because they do have the speed and skill to get the job done. Should be a good one![]()

Re: November 17, 2023 Harvest Prep 22 - 0 Wheelersburg
Let’s wait a minute here, 4-5 years ago didn’t Burg want to play stronger competition. So they upgraded there schedule and everyone was happy they quit playing the Fairland, Coal Grove, Portsmouth, etc. with that schedule they won 8-10 games a year. Now since they play better teams 3-5losses will be norm, until they weaken there schedule again. You can’t have it both ways ,the way I see it. Unless you bring in speed, size. So is it gonna be 8-2,9-1 or will it be 7-3,6-4 seasons. Then add on maybe two wins at most in playoffs ,with season ending loss. So we’re back at 9-4 or 8-5. This is if West or Waverly or any other SOC team wins one, then what! Perry next year will be a absolute beast, they return most players, HP will be right there, plus Ironton will be the tops in Southern Ohio, o and Jackson.
Re: November 17, 2023 Harvest Prep 22 - 0 Wheelersburg
Burg’s schedule has been consistent for many years. They have played Ironton every year since 1994 and Jackson straight since 2012 (played off and on before then). Also Burg typically picks up a team from out of the area: Coldwater, Cabell Midland, St Clarksville, Martin’s Ferry, Newark Catholic, Hartley, Watterson, etc.Prime Time wrote: Tue Nov 21, 2023 5:07 pm Let’s wait a minute here, 4-5 years ago didn’t Burg want to play stronger competition. Burg’s not losing four game per year because their schedule got tougher. Burg has been losing four games a year recently because they have not been beating IHS and Jackson. And the reason for that is because the offense has been a dumpster fire against good teams.

Burg fans on seops have to reconcile with themselves that Tyler Holden is NOT walking through that door and 2017 is gone forever. If they want to compete with Ironton and Prep in D5 they must recruit competitively. If not, they'll go home and celebrate being homegrown on the couch and continue to lose to the more talented teams. It's just that simple. You either adapt and evolve or you perish.Prime Time wrote: Tue Nov 21, 2023 5:07 pm Let’s wait a minute here, 4-5 years ago didn’t Burg want to play stronger competition. You do realize there’s a high probability that despite all of their talent, IHS will never win a state title again? In fact, all that’s keeping the program from falling back into despair is Pendleton’s ability to land transfers. However, given that he has already tried to leave IHS once, only a matter of time before he leaves for good. Then IHS won’t even be an OVC power.
Long term, I am way more confident in Burg’s chances to maintain their program and win another state title than I am of Ironton’s.

They are showing “class” by congratulating Burg. Remember your comments earlier about the lack of it on this site?
But you are right, Burg lost to every good team except McNich. And this has been their MO for the past 4+ years.
Burg D was solid but the O had issues from game 1 that were never resolved. If Burg doesn’t figure out their O, they will continue their unprecedented bad run of four loss seasons.![]()
Burg had to re work their line, their starting offensive guard missed the game due to illness. And one of their other bigger tackles for their run game was out due to a concussion.
I read somewhere on here that Prep had new players on their team. Not sure if that's true but they did have a defensive tackle that didn't play in the first game, and he was almost unblockable. I think Ironton only had like 90 some yards too so it could be true.
If prep continues to recruit Columbus, they will continue to be Region 19 champs. Reminds me of the Bishop Hartley run
This article explains the pros/cons of running spread. The cons sum up well what’s wrong at Burg:
- If the QB is having a bad day, the team is in trouble.
- If the other team has better skilled players, the team is in trouble.
- If the other team can play man to man, you are in trouble.
All three of those were clearly obvious this year and in the past years as well. If Burg sticks with the spread, we will see more of the same from the O.

But that math isn't matching for burgs program. If you have only made it beyond your region a total of 3 times in OVER 25 years and you have to make it past ya region to win a title, the mathematical probability of another Burg regional title, let alone a state title, is bordering anomaly status. Ironton on the other hand has been significantly more consistent on a year by year basis against better competition. Burg can't beat the good teams anymore. The program performance wise is trending down.RBH23 wrote: Tue Nov 21, 2023 10:22 pmYou do realize there’s a high probability that despite all of their talent, IHS will never win a state title again? Not sure if anyone cares or not but HP and Perry going as predicted so far it's showing Perry up 16-0 in the 2nd quarter.

38 yard touchdown pass for Perry. Guess that wasn’t a firm commitment to the run.

Perry was killing HP with the FB run. Just didn’t want to stay with it for some reason.

yea harvest prep is made up of neighborhood kids. lol.Prime Time wrote: Sat Nov 18, 2023 9:45 am LOL. With all the recruiting Ironton and Burg does, These recruits can make a difference in games played against the OVC and SOC because these leagues are very weak overall besides 1 year wonders from maybe West, Waverly and Fairland, Gallia. But outside these two recruiting even more they will be second fiddle because the local talent in each school is not up to par in region or state. I see now a excuse is 2 linemen out, lol, go ahead and believe that would made a difference in outcome. I see above poster made a 1-9 against opponents that has at least equal talent and not the talent of these weak league teams you all play. Question , What's the only way that these teams can be competitive outside weak league games! Hmmmmmm recruit more and better recruits maybe! or drop out of league, like Ironton, which in long run I believe is bad decision. What will Ironton do down the road if Coach takes another job and recruits dry up, then what! Im sure local kids are really not happy that outside players coming in. Its my opinion, which everybody here has there opinions. But Congrats to both Ironton and Wheelersburg for being regional contenders.
