14-0 NY

Both teams have had odd misfortune.

Derek Arnold ran for close to 190 in the first half. However, when NY was already up 14-0, he broke away from the D and was in the clear. However, he let up during the last 5-10 and because of the great effort and ability of a Piketon defender, he was caught and stripped of the ball. The ball went through the endzone for a touchback. Piketon dodged 21-0.

Then, to start the half, Piketon drove the ball to the NY 5 yardline but fumbled. NY recovered and is moving the ball currently.

that is some crazy mis-fortune... Cannot wait to host the buckeys in Ironton.. Right now we are beating russell, KY 45-0, had an undefeated steak going, and has used three unseccessfull quarterbacks. On the other side, we had a few bumps and bruises, and since we were leading, Our coach put in the mix of the other four or five backs we had, and they havent been able to even stop....ANYTHING... rock on ny.... Ironton wins 45 to zero against russell, whom both coaches decided to use a rolling clock at around 4 mins..Russell was reportedly a rebuilding team, just shocked they were undefeated and never scored on, until they came to Ironton. go ny buckeys...!!! Our leading rushers, sat the bench for the most part...

I have been openly critical of the NY offensive line play so far this year and would like to hand out some much deserved praise to that group of young men tonight. 190 yards rushing in the first half for Arnold is a direct reflection on the effort put out by the o line. Not to mention that our young QB has not been pressured at all this year. Great job guys.

The D bent a little but they wouldn't break!!!
Only a couple of bad plays, 1 fumble that maybe wasn't a fumble but they didn't commit to many penalty's That last turn over late in the game was a tough one to swallow but hey they played hard and played well.
GO BUCKS GO!!!!!!!!

Brats were outstanding. Hospitality was great. Field looked amazing. Air condioning in the press box.lol Nice drive over and back. Now the game.
The Arnold kid is truly one of the best running backs I have seen. Not so sure the OL dominated the DL as much as Arnold punished would be tacklers from Piketon. This has got to get better or Piketon may be in for a long season. Arnold rushed 22 times for 233 yds. NY had 309 total yrds on the night. He also had a 35 yd reception for a TD. Piketon had a total of 280 yds tonight and Tyler Tackett had 24 rushes for 134 yds. Again turnovers were the difference. In the Opening drive of the second half score 14-0 Piketon has 1st and goal on the 5yd line. Fumble. Can't blame the kid he was fighting for extra yds but was hit from behind. Ball security has to be worked on. Now many Redstreaks fans will blame coaching staff but the kids were in position tonight to make tackles, Arm tackling will not get it done with a kid the calibor of Arnold. Yards after Contact were huge tonight. I thougth Tyler Tackett and Tyler Adams had good games tonight both Offensively. Was Also impressed with both Miller and McDowell tonight on Offense. Both had 50 yds on 8 carries. Now my soap box. It is important for the players to rally around the individuals in the Lockerroom and block out what is said outside and at Home. Your season teeters on the balance. Start second guessing and listening to selfish interests and your season will be lost.

Was the contract renewed to play this game another two years, or was this the last game between the two schools for the foreseeable future?

Also, was there a decent size crowd?

I hate being out of state this time of year.

Arnold leads Buckeyes past Piketon

NELSONVILLE — Derek Arnold ended one of the prettiest runs of his career in ugly fashion.

He didn’t make the same mistake twice.

Arnold piled up 235 yards rushing, nearly outgained visiting Piketon by himself, and turned in a handful of highlight-tape worthy efforts as Nelsonville-York dominated the Red Streaks 21-7 Friday night at Boston Field.

The Buckeyes (2-0) racked up 410 yards on just 42 offensive snaps, pitched a shutout until late in the fourth quarter, never punted and were in control throughout. Piketon (0-2) couldn’t slow down the Nelsonville-York ground game — which finished with 342 rushing yards on just 36 carries.

“We matched their physical play, and really were more physical than they were,” said N-Y head coach Dave Boston. “We played well. We executed, we’re growing, we’re getting better each time we step on the field because we’re young.”

Arnold meanwhile had a beauty of a run late in the first half, that went for nothing. Arnold took the hand off on a draw play, burst through the line of scrimmage, bounced to the right sideline and then cut against the grain to the left.

Arnold appeared to be in the clear and en route to a 49-yard touchdown run. Instead, Piketon linebacker Caleb Southworth tracked Arnold down and stripped the ball away as the Buckeye standout was crossing the goal line. The ball rolled through the end zone for a touchback.

“I didn’t see the guy at all and I got caught from behind,” Arnold said. “It happens.”

He made up for it in the third quarter. Facing a third-and-28 from the Piketon 35-yard line, N-Y quarterback Nathan Dean dropped off a screen pass for Arnold in the left flat. The senior running back exploded up field, cut off a pair of blocks to the right, sliced inside pursuit at the 10-yard line, and then finished the 35-yard scoring play by powering through another would-be tackler.

“Oh yeah, it was a gorgeous play,” Arnold said. “Everyone blocked and we just made the play happen.”

Arnold had 235 yards on 20 carries, and his touchdown reception gave him 270 yards of total offense for the game. Piketon meanwhile finished with a team total of 275.

Boston said Arnold gave up a touch early on his fumble, but quickly learned from the mistake.

“I think every good athlete learns every time they step on the field. Derek relaxed a little bit and thought he was in,” the coach said. “It happens.

“But then he came back and took the screen pass and finished it strong,” he added. “It’s fun to watch him play, but it’s even better to have the chance to work with him. They don’t come around every day.”

Nelsonville-York started quick, and got Piketon on the defensive early on. On the Buckeyes’ first offensive snap, Arnold reeled off a 59-yard run. On the next play, fullback Justin Cunningham plowed in for a 1-yard touchdown and a 7-0 lead.

The Buckeyes needed just four plays to go 53 yards on their next series. Arnold had 48 yards on the drive, including an 18-yard burst up the middle for a touchdown that gave N-Y a 14-0 lead less than six minutes into the game.

Nelsonville-York had other chances to put more points on the board, but misfired. The Buckeyes failed on fourth down inside the Piketon 30 in the first half, and had Arnold’s fumble late in the second quarter.

“We played well, but we felt we left some points out there on the field,” Boston said.

Arnold’s screen pass touchdown came on the last play of the third quarter and gave the Buckeyes a 21-0 lead. In the fourth, Cunningham fumbled inside the Piketon five-yard line that scuttled another scoring chance.

Quarterback Nathan Dean completed 4-of-6 passes for 68 yards for N-Y. Conner Bunting had two catches for 22 yards, and Cunningham finished with 58 yards on the ground.

Bunting and Cunningham also spear-headed a defense that held the Red Streaks in check until the final moments. Piketon avoided the shutout when Tyler Tackett reeled off a 35-yard touchdown run with just 1:11 remaining.

Piketon quarterback Jordan Miller added 85 yards rushing on 14 carries, but was just 4-of-17 through the air for 32 yards. Southworth, a standout receiver, had just 10 yards on two catches.

“I think we played a lot better,” said Arnold, when asked to compare the Buckeyes’ week two effort to their opener. “We knew what we had to do.

“It felt like we were in control the whole time,” he added. “We played amazing defense.”

The Buckeyes will continue a three-game homestand next Friday when they host Berne Union in another non-league tilt.

No I believe this was the last year for game.

Decent size crowd form NY ( people in stands at 6pm lol)
Very disappointed in the fans from Piketon.
I can not understand parents not going to support their own children.
You had Cheerleaders, Band, and Football kids involved. There were not 100 people in the stands.

Very disappointed :(
