No, as usual, SEO misreads some comments. He is to be congratulated. However, some cold reality lies ahead. Its always hilarious to see people try to make something out of comments for more than it is. There are many roles on a team and he may fill one, maybe.

Paladin,
No cold realities lie ahead for Derek, his family, his friends, or his supporters. No one expects him to walk in and start at QB on day one. No one is even saying he will play QB for Notre Dame. We all understand how it works, but the FACT remains he got the FULL RIDE offer as a QB. Again, we understand he may never play QB there but that's what he was being recruited for. We in SEO haven't misread anything you have stated.

Do you even understand what a degree from Notre Dame means to this young man's future. If he never sees the field he will have been a player at Notre Dame and a NOTRE DAME ALUMUS.
That opens doors that most only dream about.
get a clue dude.

If Roback does choose Notre Dame it will be a 40 year decision not a 4 year decision. Having followed ND for more than 40 years, I have seen kids like Roback prove people wrong with a strong work ethic and a heart noone can measure. Best of luck to the young man, I hope he does choose ND and enjoys maybe the best 4 or 5 years of his life.

Congrats to Mr. Roback. A great opportunity to play for one of the most storied programs in college football history, while also getting an education from one of the most respected academic institutions in the nation.
Good luck in South Bend!

The term Athlete is a bit different than TE. That is all I am saying. Every Div 1 coach Derek has spoken to has said he will get a shot at QB. The rest is up to him.
Congrats, Derek!

Who knows, he might have more upside and could develop right in there with Hendrix and Massa. Practicing with great players will have to make him better. All it takes is confidence and hard work. Notre Dame is a priceless degree. Good luck Mr. Roback

Little something about this years crop of QBs
Of course, rankings don't always predict college success. The highest-rated high school quarterbacks sometimes fail to live up to their billing, while under-the-radar recruits can morph into the sport's biggest stars. For every Tebow (Rivals' No. 1 dual-threat quarterback in 2006), Stafford (No. 1 pro-style QB in '06) or Mark Sanchez (top-rated QB in the class of 2005), there is an accompanying bust like Rhett Bomar (Rivals' No. 4 overall prospect in 2004), Ryan Perrilloux (No. 2 quarterback behind Sanchez in '05) or Mitch Mustain (No. 2 behind Stafford in '06). Meanwhile, three recent Heisman finalists -- Texas' McCoy, Oklahoma's Sam Bradford and Missouri's Chase Daniel -- were largely uncelebrated three-star prospects.

I think he wants to do a signing day thing. Why not, it is a once in a lifetime deal. Let's let him enjoy that part at least.

Ya think, captain obvious?
Derek is 3 star on rivals BTW. Whatever that means.
Mark Ingram was a 3 star (4 star rivals)
He won the Heisman this past year and the NC I think.
