I think Portsmouth will most likely end up a #6 seed, having to beat Oak Hill or Ironton to get out of the sectional.

Actually the #6 seed would play #11 and the winner gets #3 Chesapeake...The Trojans would only see Oak Hill or Ironton if they got one of the #7 thru #11 seeds....if they cannot muster a couple of wins between now and the draw, they will come in with the 7th best record, then it comes down to the politics and voting...I'm sure people will try to avoid them...

I will say it again. If Portsmouth is not a top 5 seed it is a travesty. Portsmouth is at least the 3rd best team in this section.

I believe Portsmouth has the highest ceiling in this sectional. Tory Horne back gives them the top combo around IMO with Fo and 3 or 4 other very solid players.....they play very hard for Coach Collins and regardless of what is going on in the game their court demeanor stays full speed ahead. They could get upset in the sectional final or they could go to the state final 4.....with Horne I can't see them losing in the sectionals....but they might face South Point, Peake or Valley and all are formidable teams.

Looking ahead the #1 in this sectional has an easier route to the regionals than the #2....which should be the case but isn't always how it plays out.

I think the Trojans can win out to the draw........IF..........we can close out games in the last 2 minutes better........we have played 8 games decided by 6 points or less......we were 4-1 in those games earlier in the year, but just in the last 2 weeks we are 0-3, with a 60-54 loss at Ironton, a 66-64 loss in OT at home to Warren, and then a 66-61 loss in 2 OT at Chillicothe Tuesday night. All 3 of those games were winnable if the Trojans were able to make the big plays in the clutch.

I will say that I agree with Ironman92.......I do have an odd feeling about the Trojans that they could lose in the sectional or are talented enough to go to the Final 4.......but in the tournament you have to perform in the last 2 minutes in some game(s) along the way.

You have to believe the Peake and Oak Hill will do ANYTHING in their powers to not face the Trojans in the Sectional. I can see some shady backroom deals going down in this draw. If the Trojans are a #7-11 seed don't be surprised if Ironton is dropped accordingly to a 2 seed if it will mean a match up with Portsmouth in the second round. Just going by records alone is ridiculous in a draw. Who would you rather play a higher seed 10-4 Coal Grove or a lower seed 7-5 Portsmouth team. ? Hmmmmmmmmmmm let me think.

I agree.....To avoid Portsmouth, the top teams would be smart to vote them at #5, that way the only teams that need to be worried is #4 which could be Valley, South Point, or Coal Grove!

the two seed will voted on before the 6 or 7 so that manipulation can't happen. now wherever ironton goes on they can always arrange it so they play portsmouth. i still believe strength of schedule should be a major consideration. the two d3 teams in the seol definitely play a tougher schedule than the other conferences. on the other hand that touger schedule makes them better battle tested for tournament and if you are going far in the tournament you have to beat some good teams sometime. what does it make a difference if it is early or late? get the good teams off the street early. i believe zane trace did that last year.

What sanitorium do they let you post from?

Ironton does not want to play Portsmouth in the sectionals...

8)

The fact is it doesn't matter what Ironton wants. It only matters what the 9 teams from the SOC/OVC want.

I would not be surprised to see it like this:

1. Oak Hill
2. Ironton
3. Chesapeake
4. Valley
5. South Point
6. Coal Grove
7. Portsmouth
8. Wheelersburg
9. Rock Hill
10. Minford
11. West

I'm not saying that is how it should be, but I know how these things work. No one will want a piece of Portsmouth, so because the OVC/SOC have the votes, the two SEOAL teams will have to play each other to get out. My seedings would benefit everyone but Portsmouth and Ironton. Peake gets Coal Grove which should make them happy. Valley gets South Point, a team they have already beaten. South Point is happy because they probably feel as though they should have won the first meeting. Oak Hill will gladly play a struggling Burg team over Portsmouth. Again, this is just how I could see it playing how. Now this is my feeling on how it should be considering what I feel about the talent of these teams.

1. Ironton
2. Oak Hill
3. Portsmouth
4. Chesapeake
5. Valley
6. South Point
7. Coal Grove
8. Wheelersburg
9. Rock Hill
10. Minford
11. West

This will be a very interesting draw to say the least.

With Coal Grove winning. South Point and the Burg losing. It's gonna shove the Burg to an 8 seed and SP to a 7 seed. Yuck

Sounds like maybe Portsmouth should be playing teams like Ohio State and Marshall according to some of these posts! Anything can happen between now and the draw. Peake beat South Point tonight. So they should drop like a rock. And that can happen to any team!!!!! I think Tobias said he didnt know their schedule for the remainder...I may be wrong but I think its like this. Southern Racine tomorrow. SHould be a win. Then they dont play again until next Friday at Fairland. Then Portsmouth, River Valley, and finish up the season with a makeup game at South Point.

Actually, Portsmouth could have hung with Ohio State during the second half of the west virginia game. Also, Marshall is playing Rio Grande again this year, so why not Portsmouth?

I just don't see the Trojans getting a #5 seed, even if they defeat Ironton, Gallia Academy, and Chesapeake next week.......South Point owns a convincing victory over Portsmouth.......it was the second game of the year, but it still counts for the Pointers and against the Trojans.

Even the top 2 seeds are not set.......#1 could be Ironton or Oak Hill, and #2 could be likewise.......I think Chesapeake looks like a solid #3, and Valley should be able to get a #4 or #5........I think the Indians will have a rematch with South Point in the sectional.

The only rationale that could give Portsmouth a #5 seed would be wins over Ironton and Chesapeake, which are projected to be 2 of the top 3 seeds at Jackson.

Portsmouth has lost 4 games since their 0-2 start.......those 4 losses were by a total of 16 points.......at 13-2 Ironton, 12-4 Warren, and twice to 9-5 Chillicothe.......two of those losses were in OT and 2OT. They also have a 75-69 win at Warren.

Just last year a dysfunctional Portsmouth team that was under .500 took undefeated North Adams to OT before losing 77-75........and the Trojans are without question a better team this year.

One note about Ironton........for them to go undefeated through the SEOAL is a very impressive accomplishment to date.......even Chillicothe didn't go undefeated through the league when they won the state title in 2008........if the Fighting Tigers go unblemished in the SEOAL into the draw (I'm hoping my Trojans can spoil that Tuesday night)........then I think that warrants a #1 seed. They will have swept Chillicothe, Warren, and Portsmouth........not an easy feat at all.

most of these decisions are made before anyone enters the building to do the actual voting. they know how they are going to vote before they see the board and each team's record against each of the divisions and the strength of schedule.

Records make a difference,if a team is 9-5,and another is 7-7,and the 7-7 team is more talented,do you penalize the 9-5 team, once again records do make a difference. Also if two teams have played each other, and have the same record the team that won the head to head gets the higher seed, agree. The road to the districts start in November, and maybe coaches should focus on that more.In football every game counts, and with the politics of sectional seedings we can now say the same for basketball.
