Last I saw and figured Trojans scoring went
Evans 26
Bendolph 16
McKinley 9
Underwood 5
Whitley 3
Adams 3
Bratchett 2
Violette or Grubbs 2
Could be off a little
For Ironton
Carter 3
Fletcher 16? Maybe 18?
Morton 1
Elliott 7 or 9?
White 6 or 8
Culbertson 2

You people can't honestly say that this wasn't a lopsided match up with two of our starters sick and another one benched until the 2nd half. At one point we had a kid in there who hasn't seen a minute of clock for 2 years, freshman JV or Varsity.

I can guarantee that this would have been a much different game had we been at full strength. I wouldn't begin to try to predict the outcome but I know it would not have been a 25 point game. It was obvious to anyone with eyes that Zac was as weak as a kitten and so was Travis. Anyone who has seen these two in action knows what they are capable of. You are fooling your self if you think this game was a good measurement of what Ironton has.

I am not taking anything away from the Trojans they played a great game and they won. Anyone who knows me knows how I feel about Wayne and Dion, I feel like they are like my own. They have both spent lots of time at my house and traveling with me and my kids during AAU. So anytime they aren't playing Ironton I am rooting for them. I wish them well during the rest of the season and hope we can have a full strength match up come tournament time.

86Tiger to make that kind of statement does exactly what you "say" you're not trying to do..."taking away from the Trojans." Just take the loss...we know all too well what it's like to not play at full strength! If we see Ironton at full strength in the tourney, then I hope you'll regret those words of wanting to see us again.....either way...hope ya'll play well the rest of the season...unless of course, ya'll see us again!

I do Hope we meet again down the road in the Tournament, We'll have one of our difference makers in Dion Brown back. He's supposed to be cleared to play the 25th.

The Trojans just came out tonight and took it to us right from the start and never relented. Without our starting 5 out there at the start of the game We were out of sync and never recovered from it, of course the Trojans Defense didn't help us out any either  .

Congrats to the Trojans on the win, it's time for the Tigers to get ready for Cabell Midland, WV on the 20th

GO TIGERS..........

No body is making EXCUSES it is just a fact and if you think that there is that much difference in these two teams then you are nuts. I can assure you I won't be eating any words. I want to meet the Trojans again. Like I said I am not saying that we would win but I can say it would not be a 25 point game if both teams are at full strength.

Ya'll need to stop being so arrogant and realize the facts are the facts.

jGordon and bigcline: I was not taking anything away from the Trojans as you say, but I am not gonna sit back and let all you Trojans take away from the Tigers either because they are much better than was shown in this game. Ya'll act like it didn't make a difference that we had several boys sick and it most certainly did. Like I said not an excuse JUST A FACT!!!

This is the Trojan team that has been here all along. There is no doubt in my mind that when it comes to raw talent, there is no team in the region that has more than the Trojans. They are far capable of playing for a State title. The fact is, this team is no more talented than lasst years team. I thought last years team was the most talented in the region. This team should go on from here and make a solid run at an SEOAL title. I hope they win the league. As for meeting them again? Na, i hope they lose in the sectionals again to Valley or Minford or someone. Just being honest Tobias ;-)
This region is stacked this year! The Fighting Tigers will be back and we are hopeful for another district and maybe regional title run this year. It is nice to be solidly entrenched in playing for those every year.

[quote="trojandave"]As far as the game, I have seen Ironton play twice, and I honestly feel that with Andrew Bendolph back, that the Trojans have a better team........would not have said that before his return.........but being better in one fan's eyes isn't anything more than an opinion.

Peake Hoops: The official start of the OHSAA state tournament was in 1923, so any school's appearance in the "unofficial" state tournament before that year is not recognized by the OHSAA.........Portsmouth made it to the "unofficial" state tournament in 1917, but I do not include that among our 13 state tournament appearances, because it is not classified as an official appearance. Chesapeake's 1922 state appearance is not recognized by the OHSAA, nor is Portsmouth's 1917 appearance as well.

The OHSAA state tournament program lists every state participant since 1923.

VERY PROUD OF THE TROJANS ON THE WIN!!.........Great effort on both ends of the court by our kids!!........Ironton has dominated Portsmouth on the hardwood for the last decade, having won 15 of the last 18 games........the Trojans have won the last two, however.

With Ironton having a couple of kids under the weather, I use that to point out how the Trojans were not the same team without Andrew Bendolph.......with AB back, PHS doesn't even resemble the same team that played the first 10 games without him.........Portsmouth is clearly better at both ends of the floor.........averaging 55 PPG without him, 75 PPG with him, and defensively, about the same, 51 PPG........but with him the Trojans have created many more turnovers.

Ironton is still a very good basketball team that when fully healthy has proven they have the talent, depth, and coaching to play with anybody in the SE district. I thought that Trevor White played well for the Fighting Tigers, and this gives them another quality player off the bench.......Dion Brown will also add good minutes.

I want to give props to our coach Eugene Collins and our coaching staff for coming up with an outstanding game plan........defensively I thought it was sound strategy to shadow Zac Carter and Trey Fletcher.........Andrew Bendolph was OUTSTANDING guarding Zac.

Also, Wayne Evans is playing FANTASTIC basketball for the Trojans........the kid carried a lot of responsibility on his shoulders before Andrew came on board, and he continues to put up 20+ virtually every game.........he is moving fast up the list for All-District and possibly All-State mention.

Had a nice talk with Trey Fletcher's dad after the game, very nice man, and he gave Portsmouth a lot of credit for the win.

GO TROJANS!!!

@86 Tiger.......I hadn't seen anywhere on here dogging da Tigers. All that was said(at least on my end) was that we had some sick issues as well...I'd rather you not use that(even though I know the sickness to be true) as an excuse. If you suit up...you're game! in my eyes...But if you DO wanna use that excuse of a sick player....acknowledge that on our end as well(both Carter and Bendolph were under the weather). But those other issues are discipline/ chemistry issues. That's something your coach is gonna have to deal with the rest of the year. However, I never seen anyone on here take away from Ironton...if they come afterwards and do so...then I can understand you getting on here and do your rant. But until you made that statement, no one took away from either team...If I'm wrong...then quote em...and respond to that individual post. But you made the statement "You people" as if everybody on here was saying...."Man Ironton is not that good" No one said anything close to that.

Congrats to the Trojans again. I am eating those words this morning lol.

Talent was never an issue with Portsmouth, it was coaching, and I am not proud enough to say I am/was wrong.

Stay consistent and get your butts far into the tournament, we'll be waiting for you 8) .

BTW, Dion only with 9? What's the deal?

Congrats again.

TrojanDave: I loved your form with the shot at the foul line and the shot from the top of the key was also pretty good, but that half-court shot left a lot to be desired.........you know every time you come to the Conley Center that you are going to be tagged to shoot for a pizza and t-shirt so you really should practice a little if you expect to win any prize, especially the 250 bucks for making the half-court shot......

maybe a few hours in the gym lifting weights would insure your half-court shot made it past the foul line..........

but we still luv you man.......

Dion played a very good game. He came down with 12 rebounds so, he almost had a double double. Wayne Evans was the "go to guy" last night. Kid was hitting everything.
