Bucs 8 Snakes 5
RAISE THE JOLLY ROGER!!!
Bucs score 8 runs on 7 timely hits and play small ball to win their 4th game of the year after being behind going into the 8th inning.
Bucs are 23-6 when they score 4 or more runs.
After taking 2 of 3 from the front running Phillies this week, the Bucs are now 3-1 on this homestand.
This time last year our record was 23-34. Runs scored 187, runs allowed 320.
This year our record is 29-30. Runs scored 235, runs allowed 234. Much improved but the season is still young and pitching has carried us this far. Offense needs to continue to improve.
Bucs send Maholm to the mound in game 2 take face former Buc ace Zach Duke.

What a game! This is why this team is different than some in the recent past.I really like Hurdle as manager.I liked it when he was hired and like it even more now. What did you think of our draft picks?
Re: Pirates Cove
Bucs 3 Snakes 2 F/12
RAISE THE JOLLY ROGER!!!
Andrew McCutchen with the walkoff homerun to lead off the 12th!
Great game by Maholm who doesn't get the decision, 0 R and 1 H thru 6. Wow.
Bucs are back at 500 with a record of 30-30. The last time the Bucs were 30-30 was on June 11, 2005.
Karstans takes the mound on Thursday for the Buccos as they look for the sweep.

Not real sure on our draft picks. I hope they work out for us but building a winner thru the draft is a long process. It could take years for a player to reach the majors and help out. Good teams seem to blend draft picks with trades and free agent signings. The Pirates seem to only be interested in the draft. Yes, it may yield some good dividends for us but it could be years.Black Panther wrote:What a game! Our draft hinges on if we can sign Josh Bell. He sent a letter to all the teams that he is going to the University of Texas so he fell to the 2nd round. He was drafted for his bat as he is an average runner but we do need hitters. He is another corner outfielder. LF should be locked up for us for the next 10 years with Tabata, if we can keep him. We do need a solid RF since we seem to have given up on Garrett Jones, which saddens me. He has good pop but does need work on his fielding. We really need a good fielding 1st baseman, Overbay will do for another year or 2 and we don't really have a SS to speak of.
We are going to have to trade or go seriously into the free agent market for some bats and other needs.

Bus 3 Mets 1
RAISE THE JOLLY ROGER!!!
Bucs get a great performance for Maholm, 7 innings, 0 runs, 3 hits, 4 K and 2 BB and he finally gets a win too! Record is only 3-7 but has an ERA of 3.12.
The win earns us a split with the Mets, 2-2 on this homestand and 4-4 on the year. We won't see them again until next year.
Good homestand for us. Took 2 of 3 from both the Phillies and the Snakes and split with the Mets to go 6-4. We also had the 2 largest crowds in PNC Parks's 11 year history. Bucs are 7-5 for the month of June.
McCutchen is heating up at the plate and has a 12 game hitting streak. Starting pitching is still looking good. Vergas is a little shakey out of the pen. Hanrahan is solid as the closer.
On to Houston for a 3 game set. We took 2 of 3 from them last month. Need to do the same in this series.

Bucs 1 Astros 0
RAISE THE JOLLY ROGER!!!
Karstans (4-4) goes 6 2/3 0 R, 3 H, 0 BB, 3 K and lowers his ERA to 2.66. Not bad for a guy has become the 5th starter and was projected to pitch long relief before Ohlendorf went on the DL. Bullpen finishes it off by allowing only 1 hit.
Garrett Jones gets the game winning RBI with a single in the second.
Morton takes the hill in game 2. Wonder if the Astros will load their lineup with lefthanded hitters like the Mets did?

If Pittsburgh finishes above .500, Hurdle deserves manager of the year. That's been a bad franchise for a long time now.

3 GAME SWEEP!!! RAISE THE JOLLY ROGER!!!
Buccos have won 4 in a row and are 2 games over 500 this late in the season for the first time since July 2, 1999.
Timely hitting gets the needed runs across for the win.
Bucs sail the Queen Ann's Revenge into Cleveland for a 3 game set vs the Indians. Looking for some Injun scalps and another Bucco series road win.

Today's game was tough to take. The tribe plugged up our cannons this weekend.Time to break out the "Black Pearl" on on our friends from Baltimore tomorrow night! Her cannons can shoot down those birds with no problem...lol
Re: Pirates Cove
Bucs 9 Orioles 3
Bucs break a 4 game skid in which the offense was just horrid. Tonight, the offense was great as every starting position player for the Bucs got at least 1 hit.
If we could just get some constant hitting, we could be contending for the Central lead. Overall, our pitching has been very good and there almost every game. Tonight, J-Mac struggled but left the game in the 6th with the lead. Bullpen picked him up and did well to finish out the game.
Bucs and Birds series tied at 1 each. Rubber match Wednesday afternoon.

Bucs take 2 out of 3 from Baltimore in a rematch of the 1971 World Series teams.
Bullpen does it's job to help pick up the win.
Red Sox coming to the Burgh for a big weekend series. All 3 games are SRO.
Maholm takes the mound for the Bucs.

Bucs 3 BoSox 1
RAISE THE JOLLY ROGER!!!
Maholm struggles early but limits Boston to only 1 run and the bullpen comes in to pitch 3 2/3 scoreless innings against a potent hitting team.
Just enough offense to push 3 runs across the plate and the Bucs win their 3rd in a row to go to 5-5 in interleague play. They are now 4-1 at home in sellout games as tonight's was the 2nd largest crowd of the season.
Bucs will send Karstans to the hill vs former Buc and knuckler baller Tim Wakefield in another SRO crowd @ PNC Park.

Bucs 6 BoSox 4
URRRGH!!! RAISE THE JOLLY ROGER!!!
A record crowd at PNC Park tonight saw the Sox take an early 2-0 lead but the battlin' Bucs run out the long nines as Overbay slams a 3 run shot to put the Burgh in front for good and Garrett Jones adds a solo shot for insurance.
Bucco bullpen again comes in to protect the lead and Hanrahan gets his 22nd save in as many chances as he strikes out baseball's best hitter, Adrian Gonzalez, to get the last out as the Bucs take game 2 of the series.
Karstens (5-4) gets the win with a very fine 2.66 era. Not to shabby for the 5th starter who was slated to pitch out of the bullpen when training camp ended.
Bucs are now 35-0 when leading after the 8th and 5-1 in SRO games at home this year.
Buccos go for the series sweep tomorrow in front of another SRO crowd.

Re: Pirates Cove
Karstens actually had no contract coming into spring camp. This bullpen right now is lights out and Hanrahan is the best closer in the league.Forget about the guy is SF.Dont know how this will end up but all I can say now is "Fear The Bones"
Re: Pirates Cove
BoSox 4 Bucs 2
An all around poor game by the Buccos who could have easily swept the BoSox.
Our pitching issued 6 free passes. Our defense committed 4 errors. This led to Boston scoring 3 unearned runs.
Our offense had the bases loaded in the 5th with no outs and could only push across 1 run. Terrible.
Positives - we won the series against 1 of baseballs top teams. The first time in 4 chances to do so in interleague play vs Boston. Our 2 wins on Friday and Saturday night was electric as were the fans. The attendence was outstanding as 2 of the 3 games set all time attendence records at PNC Park with all 3 games being SRO.
We are also tied with the Reds for 3rd place in the Central just 4 games back of the Brewers and we are above 500.
Lost Tabata to a quad strain. I hope he isn't out long as LF will be by committee. This should mean that Jones will get all the starts in RF and this is good because his bat is starting to heat up and he is one of our few long ball threats.
Also, we are 14-10 this month.
Monday is an off day and Tuesday starts a 3 game set @ Toronto and then 4 games over the weekend @ Washington. We need to continue to win 2 of the 3 in 3 game series and do no worse than split the 4 gamers. We can do this vs both Toronto and Washington. I am concerned about playing @ Toronto on their astroturf field and our defense.
