93Bulldog wrote:Good run down Floyd ... your last sentence is what I like most about the 'Dogs ... they have DIFFERENT ways to score, different ways to win ... 'one dimensional' teams don't last long at this stage - Athens has a variety of ways they can play on a given night ... I've seen them get out and run (i.e. 76-72 win over River) ... or they can slow it down, play tough D and pound it inside (i.e. 52-44 win over Vinton County).
Miami Trace has won games in similar ways as that this year too. Cedric Pettiford isn't the only scorer (imo he is the best player on the team and only a sophomore) for the Panthers, 7 different players have led the team in scoring during games this year. like you said, one-dimensional teams don't last long in the tournament.

... Friday night D3 finals ...

Eastern Brown 35
Oak Hill 57

... Friday night's opener was over before it started as Chase Lawson entered the game with a back injury that saw the senior try to gut it out to no avail as the talented EB scorer played maybe 5 minutes of the game ... with Lawson on the bench Oak Hill lit up the Eastern Brown defense for 37 first half points ... the Oaks knocked down 7 of 7 three balls in the first 2 quarters of action led by Garrin Stiltner 10 points in the first half/Drew Haislop 11 points/Luke Hammond 9 pts/Nathan Kidd adding 5 by intermission ... quarter breaks showed Oak Hill 22 EB 8 after one, Oak Hill 37 Eastern Brown 15 at the half - game over ... Oak Hill was unconscious offensively while playing flawless defense vs EB - nothing inside or outside for the Warriors ... the 3rd & 4th quarters brought the Oaks down to earth as Oak Hill could muster only 3 second half field goals ... Oaks 57 Warriors 35 final ...

Pfloyd Napkin Stats - Eastern Brown

Scoring : Nathan Scott 16, Riley Prine 12, Jonathan Stivers 6, Layne Pickerill 1

3 Pointers : 3/16 ... Stivers 2, Scott 1

FTs : 4/9

TOs : 13

Pfloyd Napkin Stats - Oak Hill

Scoring : Garrin Stiltner 16, Drew Haislop 13, Luke Hammond 11, Kyle Love 6, Nathan Kidd 5, Kyle Cox 2, Jonathan Harrison 2, Colton Salyers 2

3 Pointers : 7/10 ... Stiltner 2, Haislop 2, Hammond 2, Kidd 1 ... 7/7 in the first half, 0/3 in the 2nd half...

FTs : 16/22

TOs : 13

Crooksville 45
Piketon 54

... the best game of the night by far as the Ceramics pushed Piketon all night holding the lead/or tied at the end of the first three quarters BUT NOT when it counted at the end of the 4th ... Crooksville 10 Piketon 10 after one, Crooksville 24 Piketon 22 at the half, Crooksville 33 Piketon 30 after three ... neither team could push the lead past 3 points in the first three periods - no separation until Crooksville's BIG Mitchell Swingle picked up his 4th foul with 4:31 left in the game CHS leading 40-39 ... on the foul Jeremy Farmer knocked down both FTs to put PHS in front for good 41-40 ... Zack Farmer hit Jeremy Farmer with a full court out of bounds pass for 2 more FTs ... Red Streaks 43 Ceramics 40 with 2:50 remaining ... big turnover by CHS gave PHS the ball AND the chance to push the separation Brewster on a put back game over as Piketon took the last 2 minutes 9-5 and the district championship ... Piketon 54 Crooksville 45 final

Pfloyd Napkin Stats - Crooksville

Scoring : Mitchell Swingle 17, Lake Channel 13, Caleb Jago 6, Austin Ebert 5, Dakota Jones 4

3 Pointers : 5/16 ... Jago 2, Channel 2, Ebert 1

FT's : 2/3

TOs : 14

Pfloyd Napkin Stats - Piketon

Scoring : Craigen Moore 16, Jeremy Farmer 11, Isaac Brabson 10, Zack Farmer 8, Wyatt Brewster 8

3 Pointers : 1/10 ... Moore 1

FT's : 8/10 ... 7/8 in the fourth quarter

TOs : 11

Ironton 69
Zane Trace 45

...the Fighting Tigers flexed their muscles vs Zane Trace doing what they do best - IHS makes the game simple , Coach LaFon's boys put 32 minutes of pressure on their opponent no matter who they are - tonight happened to be ZT in the I'town boyz path to a district championship ... IHS pressures the ball handler 3/4 court for the whole game, players handling the ball are under constant stress to get into an offense , any "loose" pass will never reach it's destination - IHS going the other direction, pushing the ball to the paint - pressure ... on made buckets - I'town AGAIN pushes the ball - putting pressure on the defense to get back, stop the ball, keep the Ironton group out of the paint - more pressure ... bottom line opponent of the Fighting Tigers are subjected to Pressure at both ends of the floor ... THEN you have to deal with the individuals! Zac Carter - the total package in pressuring the ball on defense, then turns around to push the ball at breakneck speed pushing the ball offensively after rebounds and/or made baskets ... Teams are punished for making buckets having to get back into the defense to try to handle Carter/Fletcher/White ... inside strength/ outside scoring ... Ironton showed the entire package vs Zane Trace ... the Pioneers may have been within striking distance for 2 quarters on the scoreboard BUT a reality check showed ZT tiring from the pressure ... IHS pushed the lead to 15 after 3 periods IHS 47 ZT 32 ... led by the play of Trey Fletcher (24 points - showed the ENTIRE package ... strong on the boards, drives to the rim from deep on the perimeter, knocked down a trey, went 5/5 from the line , blocked shots , unstoppable in this one ... Zac Carter was not to be outdone- 20 points, midrange shots, 3 point shots, drives into the paint, to the rim ... Zane Trace was sacrificed tonight... Ironton 69 Zane Trace 45 final ...

Pfloyd Napkin Stats - Zane Trace

Scoring : Tyler Hinty 13, Wes Beam 10, Pierce Mowery 7, Connor Smith 6, Eric Hutton 5, Trey Rittenhouse 4

3 Pointers : 4/13 ... Hinty 2, Mowery 1, Hutton 1

FTs : 5/8

TOs : 16

Pfloyd Napkin Stats - Ironton

Scoring : Trey Fletcher 24, Zac Carter 20, Trevor White 11, Aaron Stevens 6, Josh Glover 6, Jake Long 2

3 Pointers: 1/8 ...Fletcher 1

FTs : 12/17

TOs: 5

... 93dog ! was looking at my SI for this past week, noticed under the article for the Best Performances in the History of the Big Dance ... the top 10 performances were turned in by Wilt Chamberlain, Jerry West, Bill Walton, Magic Johnson, Larry Bird, Bill Bradley, Bill Russell, Oscar Robertson, Lew Alcindor, Christian Laettner ... pfloyd ALSO NOTICED that 6 of these top 10 performers were wearing ... wait for it ... Chuck Taylor Converse All Stars !!! - pfloyd's shoe of choice ! ... Lew Alcindor actually wore the low top vs high top version of the Chuck's ... in your face "swoooosh" !!! ...
