Re: PENN STATE VS OHIO STATE
Anybody know what Ohio State's record on the ABC/ESPN Saturday night series is
in recent years? I know they beat Wisconsin couple of weeks back and beat Texas
down in Austin in 2006, but if I were a betting person, I'd say OSU's overall record
on Saturday night national television is not very good at all. Anybody?

Being disappointed after a national championship loss this year. of course when the Bucks lose, Im disappointed. However, I love the selective memory. I was overjoyed with the 2002 title.

OSU only won that one due to a refs bad call...

Re: PENN STATE VS OHIO STATE
blacknblue is right the o-line was poor and now is when you sit the seniors down on the bench and start playing your highly talented freshman linemen coming out of high school...and you start by benching alex boone cuz all he does is talk and never backs it up and now is when i can say penn state is the best team in the nation
Re: PENN STATE VS OHIO STATE
TP has got to go. Sit him down. He arm strenght isn't there at this level. All his throwns were short and if his primary receiver's were covered he couldn't get his 2-3rd options. You can't thrown a moon ball in college an expect to be successful. Penn State knew this an loaded up the box to stop the run. TP was going to have to beat them with his arm and I don't think they thought he could.
Offensive line your guys are terrible. Our center#50 was knocked back into the plays a few times. Yes I know he's a true freshman. #70 couldn't pass block, an 80yr old women could have run around him.
I really have to feel for the guys who stayed, that could be playing in the NFL on sundays an mondays, not on saturday night.

Re: PENN STATE VS OHIO STATE
i dont think you sit him down...he has to learn when not to go for the big play every time and just get what you can get and go on to the next play ..that fumble he should have just went over the top or dive for the first and his passing wasnt that bad other than the interception at the end of the game he was 16/25 for 225 the defense played heck of a game they did what they could do holding a powerhouse offense like penn state's to 13 pts the offense didnt step up tonight
Re: PENN STATE VS OHIO STATE
Freshman mistake on the QB sneak. He tried to make something bigger happen. Should have just concentrated on getting the first down.
I don't think you sit him down, you have nobody else really at QB. You play him and let him learn from his mistakes.
Penn State played an error free game. OSU's defense did a super job except for the 2 pass interference penalties. Penn State did not worry about the passing game beating them. They geared up to stop Wells and it worked for them.

Jim (Little Game)Jim Tressel shows his true colors again tonight.
H did not put his team in any position to win this game.
QB 1 is not a pocket passer why try and make him one?
QB 1 needs to get that hitch out of his passing motion to me this is what makes hs ball floats as badly as it does.
The0-Line might play softer than the Newark Catholic front line(Sorry guys but the truth is you guys never lived up to your ability this season)

In defense of the offensive line, it's hard for 5 to block 8. In reality, the offensive line continues to get worse. Jim Cordle, Alex Boone and Steve Rehring couldn't run the 40 in 6 seconds, too much flab. Browning and Brewster were completely outmanned in this game. Browning couldn't block my grandmother. Boone, Cordle and Rehring have been starting on this line for two years and they have not improved at all. Time for Jim Bollman to retire to another venue. He just isn't getting the job done.
Pryor is just a young guy learning how to play college football. He is going to make mistakes and that's just how it is. Mark my word, this kid is the real deal and he will make a believer out of all you non-believers. I don't usually make too many predictions because I hate crow, but this is your next Ohio State Heisman winner. I love the way he hates to lose. A winner never quits and a quitter never wins and this young man is not a quitter. I'm going to enjoy watching this young man grow and mature into one of the best to ever wear the Scarlett and Gray.

Mr.Sweater Vest is a little too conservative in these types of games.

Re: PENN STATE VS OHIO STATE
Here's a thought:
Why let your big, lanky true freshman - who's a huge target with his height - QB run the ball when you can hand it to Beanie Wells - battle-tested Heisman candidate if not for an injury who was starting to get rolling and wanted the ball?
Why not open up the offense a little bit so we don't have to hope that a freshman doesn't make a freshman mistake?
The experience should only season Pryor and make him man up. He's the future of the program and instead of pinning the whole loss on him, lets remember just how pathetic Tressel's teams play in Big-Time games and then lets assess if HE did anything wrong. Because he's the only constant in all of the Buckeyes' prime time failures.

A disappointing loss but what an exciting game. The atmosphere in the 'shoe was electrifying. Penn State fans represented themselves very impressively and had a huge turn out for the game. A long day of tailgating around the campus and from the looks of the debris left on the grounds as we left the game it will be a long day of cleanup today. A lot of confusion when entering the stadium, after the band went through they kept the main entrance closed and shuttled folks to the side entrances. Massive crowds and slow entry, never known them to do that before.
But, if it is to be any other team than OSU at the top I'm pleased it may be the Nittany Lions. You have to respect Joe Pa and his fans.

Re: PENN STATE VS OHIO STATE
Penn State played opportunistic football. Game played in a fashion that the first team
to make an error would play dearly. OSU seems to navigate toward games where
field position and punting are big factors, so weapons like Beanie Wells aren't in full
gear. O-line questions aside, it looked like pretty button down football, relaying on
a true freshman to not make mistakes. Penn State's backup QB, an upper classman, was asked to come in and MANAGE their game, not control it.
I know 'Joe Pa' gets lots of love for continuing in a job at an age when lots of other
folks would be doing well just to get around. Not sure how much real coaching Joe
Pa is actually doing these days. Granted, he is still the face of Penn State football
(media; fund raising; recruiting hook...to a degree; etc.), but to his credit, he has
a coaching staff assembled to actually run games, etc.. ESPN/ABC sure finds him
good copy and are prone to slobber all over him, noting his now 381 career wins.
Hang around long enough, the ups and downs of winning and losing over decades
can afford the opportunity to win lots of games with lots of good players. Again,
most guys 81 years old aren't still working...but power to those that do.

Re: PENN STATE VS OHIO STATE
I know people are going to run me out of town because I am a Michigan fan, but I will throw in my two cents anyways. Dubs said from the beginning that Pryor shouldn't be starting, and that Todd will give you the best chance to be successful. I think you run a two QB system to at least make PSU respect the pass. Pryor is doing a great job of learning as a true freshman, but myself and many other people have said he doesn't have the arm at this point to set up in the pocket and make throws. He looks great thrwoing on the run because he draws so much attention to himself because of his ability to run making DB's commit to him and leaving allies for him to throw he ball, but with that being said teams will make beat you with his arm. He is not ready yet. I believe if Todd would have started, and you bring Pryor in say for 40% of the snaps in the game, than OSU wins this game. Let's face it Beanie was going nowhere because they had 8 people in the box almost every play. If Todd is in there say 60% than they would at least respect the pass.

Penn State dominated on the defensive side of the ball allowing less than 100 yards rushing from the OSU offense, single digit rushing numbers for pryor and only 55 for Beanie. And keep in mind this defense have lost 3-4 potential starters on defense since the end of last season.
Penn State's backup qb is not an upperclassman, he's a sophomore and showed up last night. He was put in the game becuase their starting qb Daryll Clark, had a mild concussion, and the med. staff wouldn't let him return.
Just becuase a coach hangs around, doesn't mean they'll win that many games, come on!! If you think the only reason he is the all time leader in wins in fbs is becuase of longevity u've got a lot to learn. He is one of, and probably, the greatest coach in football history. Not only does he own the record for most games won, he also wins the big games, unlike some coaches today who can win reg season games, but losses almost every big game they play. Joe Pa has the most bowl victories and best winning pct. in bowl games in fbs history.
Penn State is the best team in the big ten and proved that last night, they are the elite, and the team to beat!!

SE:
Your points regarding Penn State's performance in the OSU game and throughout
its' season are well taken.
Devlin as a substitute QB last night wasn't asked to do anything real flashy,
just manage the game to the lead PSU took when he came in and help
execute the PSU offense late in the game with the lead, which they added to
as well. Manage the game, in light of Clark's injury keeping him out of the game.
Clark won the starting job, from Devlin, in spring drills, if I have the story correct (?)
Joe Paterno certainly would not be asked to 'hang around' (my original terminology)
if he weren't successful, by winning as many games as he has. But, truthfully,
how many 81 year old Division 1 football coaches are active now, or have been
in the past couple of decades? I know Amos Alonzo Stagg (whom Joe Paterno
passed in career wins on the way up to Number One) coached to very late in
his life, let alone his career. The point is, it is understandable how an 81-year old
professional (in the coaching profession) has been able to amass his overall victory
and bowl game record...not many coaches, or professionals in lots of lines of work,
keep going and keep being successful, at 81 years of age. Most coaches stop (or
are asked to stop) way before that timeline. Forty-three years (I think) at one
place, at an overall success rate such as Joe Paterno has experienced...as long as PSU wants him, and health permits, he'll continue to march on.

Re: PENN STATE VS OHIO STATE
I don't think you sit TP down, I thought he kept you in the game until the fumble. I hate to say it but TP is a lot better than I thought he would be.i believe TP give OSU a better chance to win than does Todd B. I think next year you will see Jim T. open up the play book more for TP when he has a better feel for the college game. I think he's just trying to keep it simple. Also, I see Jim T running more of a spread kinda like Troy Smiths days.
Re: PENN STATE VS OHIO STATE
I thought TP played well considering he is a true freshman that did not participate in spring practice and considering the fact that JT was putting him in 3rd and long all night long before he could pass. Plus, Boeckman would have been killed in the first half by the pass rush, but in the 2nd half with the TE pass blocking help, Boeckman would have torched their secondary. The WRs were wide open all night and Boeckman and these WRs torched them last year.
However, TP has plenty of arm strength. His mechanics are just sloppy right now. The coaches say he has a cannon. I doubt they are lying.
Also, I thought the D-line dominated last night? (shrugs)
