Re: Athens in the SEOAL v Athens in the TVC
1995 15 years ago was the last time athens beat a LOGAN team. LOGAN they where 2-8 that year. the only wins coming from nelsontuckey and ettia. before that it was 1990, LOGAN was 2-8 again, with wins coming from gallia and warren. before that it was 1989 , 84 and a tie in 81.
so in 30 yrs. athens has only beaten a LOGAN team 4 times and tied once.
since 1980 athens was a sad W4 L20 &1T. that is flatout terrible!! and don' forget !!!! they are/where the same size as LOGAN for almost all of those years. so who care about 94!!!! as big as you all are you should have done better. Isn't a D1 college in your town????

Bubba didn't play on the 94 team!! Bubba was the qb for the 89/90 playoff team. He only played football at Athens for 2 years!
Re: Athens in the SEOAL v Athens in the TVC
As you might be able to tell I am getting old. I believe Bubba's team was the last to beat Jackson. I don't remember the year exactly but I don't think they've beaten us since.
Dundas,
I agree with you often but to predict that Athens would beat Jackson based upon Jackson's games versus Wellston and Vinton County can be misleading. If Wellston played 10 games with the fire and emotion they put into the Jackson game, their record each season would be much better than it is. Even though it has been a one way street the past 2 decades, it is still the most intense and bitter rivaly in the area. While some will argue that Wellston has shot themselves in the foot a few times (and they most certainly have) they still play the game with an intensity not seen the remainder of the season. Vinton County ran a couple of gimmicks that stymied the Ironmen in the first half last year. Halftime adjustments were made and the Vikings were unable to stay in it. Great coaching move by Nolan and his staff, it gave them a chance.
Athens typically does not have the size or speed to compete in the SEOAL. If Vinton County would return to their 2 team pee wee system as they orginally started with, they would be significantly improved at the upper levels. I don't have any idea what Athens could do to improve their lot, other than staying in the TVC where early returns indicate that they can compete.

I would beg to differ that Athens doesn't have the size and speed to keep up in the SEAOL. They have plenty of speed in Dixon, Sharp, Russell, Stanely. The size in Rider, Germano,Bowles just to name a few. You look at game film and the speed speaks for itself, Dixon and Sharp are gamebreakers and I'll put their speed up agianst a lot of kids in this county and they would probably be in the top five.

We may find out next season since they play two SEOAL teams. Of course it is not Logan they are playing, but still they are in the league.

I did not say that Athens didn't hav the size or speed in any particular year. I said "typically" which meant more often than not as opposed to never.

speed is speed until you are able to have the know how to use it when running with the ball. A lot of high school kids have straight away speed but put a foot ball in their hands and have them change directions they can be nothing.
Size is size until you can use that to help block for a running back or protect your QB, it is nothing.
A speedy defense will get around slow size every time.
One slow lineman to another
"What was that"?
"I don't know but it was fast".

Noreply66, I don't think you've watched a lot of Athens games, cause if you did you would know that the Sharp kid and the Dixon kid have speed as well as the ability to use it and the know how. I f you get a chance or if you even care ask around or look at film and you'll see that it is there. All I am saying is the pieces are there for athens to continue to have good teams. And you are correct if they don't have a line what's the use. In that regards they have some linemen who are unproven but have great potential.
Re: Athens in the SEOAL v Athens in the TVC
My post doesn't have a thing to do with Athens. I was making a statement towards any team.

Be careful. You may be accused of "degrading the accomplishments of kids."
Re: Athens in the SEOAL v Athens in the TVC
Athens had a lot of talent this year and that talent put them at the top of the TVC which in its self was a down year. This same talent would have gave them a few wins in the SEOAL making that talent average. This year the TVC will be stronger and Athens will fall back. It will happen in about every sport for the Bulldogs in 2010/11.

Hey just a little reminder to you all, the division isn't decided on the populatin of the school. It is decided on how many boys they have, and if you check and see Athens is D2 by 6-10 kids. And as much as you want to talk about Athens being in the TVC, I know for a fact that a lot of these schools wish they had some of the athletes that Athens has.

ok, how many D3 schools are in the TVC??
Athen fans will have to grow some leather on there backs if the school stays in the TVC.

Re: Athens in the SEOAL v Athens in the TVC
To answer the question above...VC is the only DIII team in the TVC and to my knowledge have never been reguarded as 'big fish small pond' as Athens is.
