I would guess the virus might have played into this game, I was expecting a closer game, but still think Portsmouth would have won, who knows, only thing that matters is this ones in the books and the trojans get the win, and now it gets no easier as we will travel to Warren friday night.

VERY PROUD OF THE TROJANS ON THE WIN!!.........Great effort on both ends of the court by our kids!!........Ironton has dominated Portsmouth on the hardwood for the last decade, having won 15 of the last 18 games........the Trojans have won the last two, however.

With Ironton having a couple of kids under the weather, I use that to point out how the Trojans were not the same team without Andrew Bendolph.......with AB back, PHS doesn't even resemble the same team that played the first 10 games without him.........Portsmouth is clearly better at both ends of the floor.........averaging 55 PPG without him, 75 PPG with him, and defensively, about the same, 51 PPG........but with him the Trojans have created many more turnovers.

Ironton is still a very good basketball team that when fully healthy has proven they have the talent, depth, and coaching to play with anybody in the SE district. I thought that Trevor White played well for the Fighting Tigers, and this gives them another quality player off the bench.......Dion Brown will also add good minutes.

I want to give props to our coach Eugene Collins and our coaching staff for coming up with an outstanding game plan........defensively I thought it was sound strategy to shadow Zac Carter and Trey Fletcher.........Andrew Bendolph was OUTSTANDING guarding Zac.

Also, Wayne Evans is playing FANTASTIC basketball for the Trojans........the kid carried a lot of responsibility on his shoulders before Andrew came on board, and he continues to put up 20+ virtually every game.........he is moving fast up the list for All-District and possibly All-State mention.

Had a nice talk with Trey Fletcher's dad after the game, very nice man, and he gave Portsmouth a lot of credit for the win.

A little tid bit of info for you Trojandave, Trey Fletchers dad (Joe) kicked the Extra Point to beat Akron SVSM 7-6 in the 79 State Football Championship

Got to say that doesn't bother me at all. It is the Ironton paper, and Portsmouth is not in their coverage area. I personally wish the PDT did half as good as the Tribune does with coverage. I haven't seen the actual PDT today, but did check online, and see no coverage of the Portsmouth Ironton game at all, and I will beat you will not see any coverage for the game against Warren on Friday.

The PDT sports staff is stuck with an inexplicable 9 p.m. deadline on Tuesdays. There is no way for them to cover games for print on Tuesday nights. Plus the new sports editor has been there like a week. Give him a break. I'm sure he'll do better than the last guy ;)

We have had differing opinions on the PDT in the past, and we both stand by our view points. It is ridiculous though that there is a 9 p.m. deadline. After all who is it that set that deadline? It’s got to be someone at the PDT. I know they must be under the gun to get the paper out in the morning, but personally I would prefer for it to go back to an afternoon paper as it use to be so that we don’t get everything a day behind. Also I will be surprised if anything comes out in the PDT tomorrow about Portsmouth and Ironton anyway, with the exception of a coach submitted report on the inside. Which is ridicules, PHS is one of the largest schools in the coverage area, and I would beat that more subscribers live within the Portsmouth district than any other district in the coverage area. The PDT at one time did have an excellent sports page, and I will say that you at least were always open to suggestions, and attempted to better it as you saw fit. Best of luck in your future endeavors, hopefully the new guy will be able to continue to right the ship before it becomes any worse.

On the matter of a 9pm deadline we agree 100 percent. For the record when they shut down the onsite press the deadlines went from 11:30 almost every night to 10 except 9 on tues and 8 on Sat.

I don't think that was a PDT decision as much as a heartland publications call but it was never explained to me and I did fight them on that change.

I know the entire staff that makes the paper was opposed to it. You guys on here don't usually pounce unless it's warranted and I appreciated that. Just remember that some percieved mistakes are totally out of the sports staffs hands.

This is the Trojan team that has been here all along. There is no doubt in my mind that when it comes to raw talent, there is no team in the region that has more than the Trojans. They are far capable of playing for a State title. The fact is, this team is no more talented than lasst years team. I thought last years team was the most talented in the region. This team should go on from here and make a solid run at an SEOAL title. I hope they win the league. As for meeting them again? Na, i hope they lose in the sectionals again to Valley or Minford or someone. Just being honest Tobias
This region is stacked this year! The Fighting Tigers will be back and we are hopeful for another district and maybe regional title run this year. It is nice to be solidly entrenched in playing for those every year.

Im still counting on yet another Trojan meltdown in the sectionals. Will they finally live up to the talent this year? You know me, if it's not my Tigers or one of the other 20 or so teams in the district, I hope the Trojans win it.

Leo Byrd: Thanks for the love........I tried to get someone else from Portsmouth to shoot, but there were no takers........the rim on that halfcourt shot seems like a mile away........you're right, I've got to get into the gym and hit the weights, because Rick will pick me out again next year.........but I'm a distance runner, and the last thing I want is muscle bulk.

I'll work on my foul shooting so I can win a pizza from PHS graduate John Suitor's Giovanni's in Coal Grove. I won a pizza and a T-shirt two years ago.

eccedomusscientiae: There's a lot of Trojan fans who are hoping that indeed we will finally live up to the talent level that we've had for the last 4 years........we haven't been out of the sectional since 2004.......I don't think there's any question that Portsmouth has been the most underachieving team in the tournament the last several years, and it has been extremely frustrating for our fans.

Case in point just last year.......we beat both Ironton and Chesapeake in the regular season, only to see the Trojans lose to Valley in the sectional, while the Tigers and Panthers played for the regional title.
