Re: Week 10 - Minford at Valley - SOC II Championship(share)
i would love to see my falcons get a W against the Indians.... i loved this rivarly when i played. but the deciding factor of fridays game will be Cody Stapleton, if he cant take care of the ball and play as well as he did friday we will be right there in the end. if we turn it over it will be a replay of week 8.

Congrats to the Valley Indians on your win over Wheelersburg. That was a great game plan that was executed well. As for this game I believe Minford's offensive line matches up better size wise to the D-line of Valley. Wheelersburg couldn't get any kind of push on Valley's D-line. Maybe Minford can with their bigger O-line. If The Falcons can run the ball this will be anybody's game. If Valley shuts down the run and forces Minford to go to their passing game it'll be a long night for the Falcons. I would like to see Minford pull out the win but I think Valley's defense is too good.
Go Burg.
Go Burg.
Re: Week 10 - Minford at Valley - SOC II Championship(share)
minford doesnt need to come out trying to sling the ball around like they did against burg. that was a disaster and i think the players were not comfortable at all in that style of offense.
line up and run the ball. take a shot downfield here and there to keep valley's defense honest, especially on 2nd and short. but for heavens sake stick with what has proven to work for 8 wins this season! it doesnt have to be flashy, just good enough to get it done! moving the ball and winning the field position battle will lead to scores.

Sling the ball around vs burg!? What? I saw a very vanilla approach on the opening drive, which resulted in several punts.Badboy wrote:minford doesnt need to come out trying to sling the ball around like they did against burg. that was a disaster and i think the players were not comfortable at all in that style of offense.

I saw you say that in the other thread... I thought Minford took too many chances down the field. I felt like they may have even jumped the gun on going away from the run game. Maybe they didn't do the flashy screen game or whatever you wanted to see, but Minford took some chances down the field.NewEra wrote:Sling the ball around vs burg!? What? If I remember correctly Minford tried several passes on their first few possessions. They definitely didnt try to line up and pound the football with the Wing T. I know they tried a couple WR screens and a screen play to Justice in the first 2 offensive series.
Hopefully they will just line up and pound the ball at Valley and mix in a pass here and there. It may not be 100% effective early, but they have to try to somehow wear down that Valley D line that seems to be pretty good.
And the shots taken downfield vs Burg were pretty darn good throws for the most part. I think there were 2 good balls that went off the receivers hands and ended up being picked off.

Yeah, but weren't the shots down field taken from a under center, tight set?Bleeding Red wrote:If I remember correctly Minford tried several passes on their first few possessions. well if u watched the minford n burg game minford had a different lineup on defense with speed across the board and held burg scoreless til 20 sec left in the 2nd qtr when they would start every drive at midfield or further...after all the turnovers minford lost their composure and confidence on defense in the 2nd half. offensively minford has 2 or 3 guys that can bust one at any time given a seam( berry, piguet, and justice), despite valley having a pretty solid defense which will be tough to move the ball on. overall i think these teams match up with each other good n expect nothing less than a score decided by 7 or less either wayJesco White wrote:I agree 100% about expecting a great game. I am curious though about the overall speed statement and curious as to why you think Minford can consistently get outside on Valley's D? Valley has excellent D-line play, including very good D-ends that contain the edge very well. I agree that we shouldn't simply compare scores vs Burg, but some things are relative. For instance, I thought Burg looked consistently quicker than Minford throughout their match-up. At the same time, that same Butg team didn't consistently hurt Valley with their speed & quickness. In my opinion, Minford isn't going to beat Valley athletically. If the Falcons are going to win, they are going to have to win the battle at the line of scrimmage. I'm very anxious to see these two lines duke it out all night up front. To me, that's the true strength of both teams.A-Bomb wrote:expect a great game...seen both teeams play and i think they are evenly matched despite the difference in the burg scores which was due to lots of different variables so that should not tell who will win this one...theres a reason u play the games if u always went by whats on paper then there'd be no point. i give valley the edge as the more physical team they are very good up front however i think minford has more team speed and should be able to get outside on valleys D.... playing for that golden football never know what can happen

I expect this to be another great SOC II game between the defending champion Valley Indians and the Minford Falcons. I watched the Valley-Burg game last week and was surprised to see how well Valley mirrored Wheelersburg in all aspects of the games (I'm saying surprised because I had not seen Valley and all of the talk was that they were not very strong!) I believe the Indians are a very good football team and it will take the Falcons best effort to be able to defeat them. I also look for a very hard played game with the team that wins the line of scrimmage to come out ahead in the end!

Just making a statement there hasnt been a team yet this year that has wore down our D line the falcons will have to be better than burgs O line to come close in doing that.......

Valley uses and rotates 9+ defensive linemen in throughout the game. So you might as well forget about wearing them out. Its not going to happen.

Valley is the better team. Its a rivalry, so it will be a good game, but Minford will have to play near perfect to win.
Re: Week 10 - Minford at Valley - SOC II Championship(share)
This is a rivalry game! The thing about rivalry games are you have to throw everything else out the window. It dont matter what the records are or who looked better agaist what team, it comes down to who wants it more. The big question is which team will be the hungriest on Friday night when the lights come on. Should be a great game good luck to both teams.

AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!! At last !!! The bragging rights for Lucasville-Minford Road is finally here. I have always called this game "The Backyard Brawl of the SOC", since the 2 schools are so close to each other (oh, and they cannot get along with one another either). At least some of the Minford folks don't believe this, but Valley is Minford's TRUE RIVAL!!! 4 of the last 6 games played in this series have been true classics. In last year's game, my Falcons were simply beaten by a better team, as Valley's 2011 team should be considered the best in school history. Last year's win by Valley also snapped a 5 game winning streak by Minford.
The Gold Football is on the line in this year's game, which obviously makes the stakes even higher, as well as better playoff positoning for the winner. I believe it is the first time in the rivalry that both teams enter the game with playoff berths already clinched, but with the Gold Football already being mentioned, that is insignificant.
This will be a very, very physical game to say the least. I could be very wrong, but IMO, the team that draws first blood, either with the first points being scored or forcing the first turnover, will win this game. I want to wish both teams the very best of luck and hope for an injury-free game as well.
BTW, does any Minford or Valley fan know what the standing of the all-time series is between the 2 schools? If so, please post on this topic. THANX !!

Crab's Bro and I have been working on Valley's All-Time Record, as well as various other school records for quite a while now. I promise you the all-time series record between the two will be available soon. 8)Anonymous_Falcon_Fan wrote:
