South Gallia @ Belpre 2/10/12
What are your thoughts on this one. Can South Gallia finish the end of the season with a few wins to get ready for the tournament or does Belpre take this one again as they did in Mercerville?

Re: South Gallia @ Belpre 2/10/12
Belpre must win this game to maintain their lead in the conference and a win would probably clinch it for them. They will have to play a lot better than they did last night against Wahama, just barely winning in overtime. Too many turnovers and missed a lot of shots they normally make.Wahama played a good game and Issac Lee was unstoppable.SG is still a dangerous team and Belpre will have to come with their A Game Friday I think they will and come out with a 12 point win.LETS GO EAGLES!!

Right, they are two games up on Southern now. That's why they need to win this game and stay two games up because I don't think Southern will lose again and SG is a team that could be a problem for Belpre.Belpre still has remaining games with Federal Hocking and Waterford who could also be a tough win.Hoping The Eagles can win out but they have to play good basketball the rest of the way.BRUTUS IS A BEAST wrote:I thought Belpre was 2 games ahead right nowEaglepapaw wrote:Belpre must win this game to maintain their lead in the conference and a win would probably clinch it for them. Belpre still has to play Eastern as well, so in order to clinch at least a share of the title, they must win on Friday against South Gallia and on Saturday against Federal Hocking. Two more wins guarantees at least a share of the title while three will clinch it outright. However, what might be an even more important focus for this week is the tournament seeding that takes place this Sunday... The Eagles need these two big wins this weekend to improve the chances of getting a #1 seed for the tournament draw.
Good luck to the Golden Eagles!

I'm not sure getting the #1 seed is a good thing. That would put you playing a team from the Jackson bracket, which I think have the four best D3 teams in SEO. I would rather take my chances with a #1 out of the other bracket.

Hardwood - that's a very good point I hadn't thought about. Maybe I'd better take a better look at how the brackets line up and rethink all of that! Lol.

I think if Belpre would lose two more games it would put them in a good spot in the seeding. lol

Re: South Gallia @ Belpre 2/10/12
It is true that Belpre would be better off not getting the No. 1 seed at Athens ... We covered that topic last night on WATH The Sportsfan ... The NO. 1 and No. 2 seeds from Athens will play the No. 3 and No. 4 seeds from Jackson ... The top 4 seeds probably in Jackson are all ranked in the top 11 in the entire state of Ohio ... 5th in Division 3: Chesapeake, 8th - Portsmouth, 10th - Ironton and 11th - Valley.
(As for South Gallia) - The game won't have much of an impact on their tournament draw - They won't pass Southern or Beaver Eastern no matter what they do - and I don't see them falling behind Waterford ... The Rebels are most likely a 3 seed, which is fine. South Gallia was (10-10) last season, wasn't a high seed in their sectional, was next to last in terms of re-seeding once they got to the District Tournament - but ended up being the LAST TVC team on the court last year ... They got eliminated in the same round as Southern - but since their game was at 8 PM - they were the 'LAST TEAM STANDING' in 2010/2011.

I know Belpre is pretty good, but i don't think they will be the no 1 seed!
With the schedule they play inleague i think 3 or 4th is prob the best they can do.

Uh really? I'll bet you $10.00 right now they get the No. 1 seed ... lol.Rvbballdude wrote:I know Belpre is pretty good, but i don't think they will be the no 1 seed!

They have more quality wins than anyone in the DIII sectional - and a better record. Belpre has played a tougher schedule than any team in that sectional - maybe you should look it over!
They have played:
FORT FRYE
WARREN
MARIETTA
WARREN
* And playing SOUTHERN (x2), SOUTH GALLIA (x2), WAHAMA (x2) ... Is just as tough as what the other DIII teams in the Athens sectional had to play ...

Re: South Gallia @ Belpre 2/10/12
There just isn't any other team that is deserving over Belpre at this point ... They all have at least one 'black eye' on their resume and no other team has a better record. Belpre's only losses came to FORT FRYE (13-3), WARREN (14-2), WARREN (14-2) and SOUTHERN (13-3).
Who could earn the 1 seed over Belpre?
Wellston? The same Golden Rockets team that lost to Athens (8-8)? Lost by 15 to the same Southern team that Belpre beat in Racine 10 days later? And losing to Ironton St. Joe (9-8) will be the game that keeps Wellston from earning the 1 seed.
Nelsonville-York? The Buckeyes lost to New Lex (7-10)! They lost to Alexander (4-12) for God's sake and they lost to Wellston last week - so how could NY even be ranked above the Golden Rockets?
like I said, who in the heck could be above Belpre? Southeastern (10-6)? Zane Trace (8-9)? I don't think so.

I really hope Belpre gets to play River Valley in the sectional. This guy has been cracking on how weak the TVC is all year. Maybe if Belpre plays River Valley it will shut him up. I don't get a team with three wins cracking on how weak any league is?

BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU WISH FOR. LIKE IT OR NOT, RIVER VALLEY IS COMPARABLE TO BELPRE. RV HAS PLAYED A MUCH TOUGHER SCHEDULE, OVERALL. NOT SAYING RV WOULD WIN BUT IT WOULDNT BE EASY FOR BELPRE.Hardwood wrote:Rvbballdude wrote:I know Belpre is pretty good, but i don't think they will be the no 1 seed!

River Valley is not comparable to Belpre. It doesn't matter how tough your schedule is if you don't win any games. They have three wins two of them are against Meigs. Who is in their league besides Chesapeake and Fairland that would be considered tough?

Re: South Gallia @ Belpre 2/10/12
River valley compares to all teams in the TVC hocking. Only common opponent is southern and they gave that game away. It was a dogfight. Belpre has played 3 games vs really good teams(warren(2) and fort frye) and three good teams (southern(2) and marietta) in those six "quality games they are 2 and 4 so lets not get carried away.Hardwood wrote:River Valley is not comparable to Belpre. River Valley I don't think is comparable to Belpre or Southern - sorry man.
Your not giving the Hocking Division much credit this season - and there is where you are making the mistake. River Valley gave the game away versus Southern? The Tornadoes earned a 15-point win and it was the season opener! lol ... They are better now than when I seen them just a month ago - and they hadn't even brought 6-foot-7 Chandler Drummer up from the JV yet versus RV ... He now starts at center.
I just don't see how a team that losses to a (4-12) Alexander team thinks they are 'comparable' to either Belpre or Southern.
