SEOAL Track Championships

Post by zeus_724 »

I am trying to figure out who to watch for at the meet Friday night.

I know the Richards girl from Warren and the Adkins girl from Gallia in the 1600 and 800 will be at the front. Are there any recent times from them?

Marietta's Grosel in the 400 and what else?

What are relay times like from some of the teams?

Is there going to be a surprise person or two to keep an eye out for?

I know team wise Marietta has been dominant so far, Logan very stong, Warren decent, but have been unable to find results from most of the other teams, who is going to be challenging for the titles?

Ok what if any are going to be different in this meet than the usual meet

Is there a limited number in each event from each team ?
Do they run in some of the rarer races like the 3200 and the 4x8 ?
Who all is actually in this meet ?

Well, I am sure that being a championship meet that it will be top two only. Concerning the races, the 3200 and 4x800 are illegal for OHSAA Jr High meets. So those won't be run. The only SEOAL team I have heard that possibly won't show was Portsmouth but that is very unconfirmed.
That means in attendance should be (in no particular order):
Marietta, Logan, Athens, Jackson, Gallia, Chillicothe, Zanesville, Warren, Portsmouth (see note above?), and Ironton.

This should be a very, very interesting competition!

Good Luck to all the competitors!

Marietta should win on the boys side. They beat Logan pretty good a week or so ago but Logan had mostly 7th graders going in it.

Athens boys and girls are doing okay this year. They might be one of the top teams in their new league in a couple years if the team stays together.

Marietta beat Logan 2 times 1 time in a relay meet and once in a usual meet. Marietta finally has some of their runners back who missed one or both of the Logan meets so Marietta should be a little stronger and also some of the seventh grade role runners like Good, Chalfant, Grose all have deffinitly got some more experience under their belts and should be better than before. Also I believe Alex Wessel missed the relay meet and then his first meet back after his injury so I would believe he would be better than before.

It should be a battle between Logan and Marietta for sure

I'm kind of curious as to the times and distances of Marietta's boys.

It is so extremely disappointing to see a league as good as the SEOAL spend no time/effort to run this meet. The past two years now it has been timed by individuals running individual stopwatches. I feel this is disgusting to show the boys and girls of these fine schools that their efforts and competition is so poorly judged and looked upon. I wish the people who ran/decided where the meets are to be held would consider the 'cheapness' that the athletes are being treated with. No, not very many of the competitors let alone anybody else will remember the results of Jr High sports but at the time and to some of them this may be thier pinnacle of sports life. I hope somebody in a power position will read this and consider getting a better timing/scoring set-up in place.

Congrats to all the ladies and gents that competed in very tough conditions from about half-way through the meet till the cancellation at the end!

zeus_724,

I couldn't agree with you anymore. This facility should not even be considered to hold a meet of such importance and of magnitude. The placer's where rewarded with ribbon yeah just one more too the collection...c'mon this is the championship meet thats show some respect to the runners and there parents.

and i know for a fact that when we lined up too race in my race i along with about 3 other guys were not aware of where we were too start and when the woman was asked she couldn't give a clear answer.

Some very good performances by quite a few athletes, despite the conditions. I noticed the league records weren't in the program, I hope these haven't been lost.

I had a conversation with one of the Warren coaches and he had them current through 2006 but he couldn't recall having them updated from Athens last year. I know after talking to both of their coaches that it seems to be very unlikely that the records will be kept up with this years meet.

I believe that Richards had the 1600m record after last year and the Adkins girl went under the time on Friday. If you are around the SEOAL these two are truly special athletes and will face off in highly important and competitive races for many years, I would recommend getting out to see them often!

Also, I would like to know what the girls' 800 record had been/is because (again) the Richards girl as mentioned above ran something in the 2:25-2:30 range.

What's the 400 meter record? I figure K. Jackson from Gallia has it, and probably still has it.

You ain't foolin me none - zeus. Your secret is safe w/ me. LOL

And - hand timing is OK for a Jr. High League Championship meet, as long as the people running the watches have some idea what they are doing. IMO

As a spectator - the meet seemed to be ran OK. A couple of folks putting kids in lanes at the starting line had no clue what they were doing. IMO - the meet should have been called much earlier - there was lighting around before the girls' 800 meters. Weather put the biggest damper on this meet, and that is not the folks at Chilly's fault.

For you folks complaining about facilities - the High School DII District Meet will be held again this year at - you guessed it - Chillicothe!

I think D Moore from Logan has the 800 record unless Richards broke it last year. I thought it was either 2:26 or 2:28. I have a list, I just have to find it.

I was interested in the girls 100 meters record. The winner Friday night was 12.66
