AAU Teams!

Post by CoachClaytor »

Does anyone have any information on the boys AAU team out of Huntington, WV. I believe they are the Heat but I am not sure on that?

If not, does anyone have any information on other major AAU programs around.

age group would be 15u or 14u. Kids that are currently going into the 8th grade.

Keep in mind that at that age level, AAU basketball can't really get kicking until mid to late February of 09.

It never hurts to get an early start though, as some teams will start to form here soon. But the rules stipulate no workouts yet, as far as I know.

Aces I am fully aware of that. I coach junior high basketball so I am well aware of the rules. I am just wanting to find out some info on as many programs as possible.

I truly wasn't trying to be flippant, was just trying to give you a little background. Sometimes a well-intentioned post comes across smartarsy on these here internets. Again, that wasn't my intention.

My son plays an age-grade lower than what you mentioned, but I recall a super squad of the age you specified based out of Ironton last spring.

I believe they were coached by Hoppy and Jamie Schweickart. Their info is fairly easy to find.

Team Ohio is very competitive at those age levels. I know they had a good group of players this past spring. Tuck Conner would be the one to get a hold of for the information.

I do believe Coach Hopkins and Joe Fletcher had one Ironton team and Schweickart had a separate team. I am not exactly sure how many tournaments Hoppy's team entered last year but my understanding was Schweickart's played in several. Columbus a couple times, Cincinnati, Dayton, Beckley, etc. They had Schweickart's son, Culbertson, Dutey (Coal Grove), Several from Rose Hill. Pretty good group. I think later they combined some with Hoppy's team to qualify and then go to National's. Not sure how they placed in Memphis. Good group of players. A lot of these teams you play out of state don't have the rules to follow that only two from same school can play on a team. So therefore most of the teams you play have played all season together. Making them much stronger for tournament time!
