Marietta vs. McClain @ the Convo on 3/5
Don't know much about the McClain Tigers since the days of Dante Jackson, but they take on the Marietta Tigers at the Convo this coming Thursday night at 6:15pm.
Marietta's coming off a 10 pt. win over the Jackson Ironmen yesterday when people thought "the roof...the roof...the roof is on fire" for Zach Arnold, who blazed the nets with 27 pts. followed by Anthony Tabler with 19 pts.
It's been a lot of fun watching these Marietta boys play hoops this season. Amongst the 5 starters...Wheeler, Tabler, Eschbaugh, Arnold and Brockmeier...they seem to play great TEAM ball and that will need to continue to move on. Add Wynn, Stollar, Davis, Schwendeman, Hess, Arnold, Kriechbaum, and Riley & it's a real good mix.
Good Luck to Coach Secrest and the MARIETTA TIGERS!!!

don't really know much about mclain but from what i read on here it seems they are pretty defensive team and low scoring. hopefully marietta's speed will be able to beat the d and keep the game high scoring to get the win

Vanmeter will have the tempo he wants. Hope Marietta can live with a halftime score of 11-8. Typically Mclain will work the ball until they get the shot they want.
Re: Marietta vs. McClain @ the Convo on 3/5
it just depends who gets off to a good start and who can set the pace in the ball game. if mcclain comes out and sets the pace then marietta will have a tough game but if marietta can be quick at the start and push the tempo then it should be a good game for them

I know it sounds to easy but when you play Greenfield (and cant press) you should go in with the mindset of just beating them 35 to 30 if thats what it takes. Dont worry about scoring a bunch of points and creating tempo. A lot of teams do this and force shots early, get behind, and now your in a world of hurt. Execute on offense, get up, and dont give them easy baskets. If they want to hold it for 2-3 minutes before they take a shot so be it. Takes a lot of mental discipline but it beats the crap out of going for steals, trapping, and giving up layups. I would love to see a team get up by 4-6 points and play a zone "basically, saying hold as long as you like".
Re: Marietta vs. McClain @ the Convo on 3/5
yes but marietta has been an up tempo team all year capitalizing off of steals and quick scoring possessions and that has been working for them for the most part. i just don't see the logic in changing the game plan especially when that fits the game plan of your opponent.

I understand what your saying but what if you can't make McClain turn the ball over - do you keep pressing them and give up layups? All im saying is that Marietta better take good shots and not rush on offense when there is no advantage. I hate when teams say they are an "uptempo" team so therefore they have to take quick shots and push the ball down the court when there is no advantage. Those teams will get beat almost everytime by a ball control teams (Belpre's/Burgs/McClains) of the past who take care of the ball and get good shots every trip down the floor. Marietta should win this game - they are 15 pts better on talent. Also, it doesnt matter if you are an uptemp team or not - your not going to score a load of points against McClain, just aint gonna happen.

Jimmy Chipwood has the right idea. I've not seen Marietta but I know they dropped one by 30 to Chilli. McClain has made ultra-aggressive defenses pay in the past, shotting free-throws at least at a 2:1 clip vs. their opponent.

If the Marietta team is half as cocky as their fans McClain will win this one by double figures. Last years VC team was a run and gun team just like this years Marietta team averaging over 70 points a game and Greenfield nearly pulled off the upset due to there style of play. They are well coached and patient. I look for Greenfield to advance in this one. Good luck to both teams.

I don't see how Marietta's fans are being cocky.
This is a good team Marietta has this year and should be a good game. Marietta's fast and likes to play a fast paced game and i think if they can establish that early, they will be able to play their kind of game and win. Even if McClain slows the game down Marietta has a good inside game and also can shoot from outside. Marietta wins in a close one.

Mr. BLUEGRASSVIKE, what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.
Billy Madison quote hail ya!!
But anyways how are our fans being cocky? I simply said how marietta's style of play differed, I'm not taking anything away from McClain by saying that. All our fans know we have a tough game ahead. And I can assure you the players understand that this is a tough game and are in no way being cocky about it. Nobody is expecting a blowout but I don't see where you get off calling us cocky? Nobody had even picked a winner yet in this forum so how were we being cocky.

Awesome Billy Madison quote! That debate/speech kind of reminds me of "Old School" when Will Ferrell debates that actor/poliltican. Quote that one and I will really be impressed. LOL

Marietta plays good team basketball. I look for them to come out and play strong they have a great group of leaders. Go get em boys!!
Re: Marietta vs. McClain @ the Convo on 3/5
I have not seen marietta play, but if Jackson can beat them so can Mclain. But if Mclain plays like they did against Waverly they will be in trouble.
GO TIGERS!!
GO TIGERS!!
Re: Marietta vs. McClain @ the Convo on 3/5
the game that marietta lost to jackson was one of marietta's worst played games of the year though and they only lost by 4

And you only beat Jackson by 10 the other night!

Greenfield will win if your team plays like that again.
As far as the fans being cocky read the posts on the Warren v Marietta thread!

I am not sure how much you know about Marietta but I can tell you one thing, Marietta and Warren are rivals. I'd say any cocky posts are due to the rivalry.

ill give that an AMEN...about time someone else sees the light...anyways if what people say is true and greenfield can hold the ball for 2 to 3 minutes before finding the "perfect" shot...that in itself is quite an accomplishment. nothing is better IMO, than a low scoring, hard fought, defensive game that comes down the the wire...that's worth my $6 right there

Bluegrassvike what are you doing???? I liked the comment you made on another thread about Jackson making huge improvements over the season and that you are glad that the Vikings played us early. Then you come on hear and make stupid accusations about the Marietta fans being cocky and that anyone who gets beat by Jackson will lose to Mcclain is ridiculous. To be honest with you, even though we beat Marietta ,which was of are better performances. We were hoping to get on the Vikings side of the bracket because we figured that would be an easier way to the Convo. My point is, Jackson doen't need your blessings on one thread and your bashing on another. And as for you stating Marietta fans were being cocky, I didn't read the thread that way. When we played them both times, I thought that there players and fans showed great class.
