A TVC Hocking Purge
I propose a shake up in the TVC Hocking. A cleansing, if you will, is needed in my honest opinion and I have an idea on how to accomplish this task. It is my belief that there are two consistently good teams in this conference. There are a few others that have had some decent years over the last 10, and there are some who are never or at best rarely any good at all. Hence, I believe a few of these teams should either dump all the rest, or make a pact to dump the conference and start a new one. My proposal will be, while maybe hard to swallow on the surface, ultimately the best prescription for a league that is struggling to produce a consistent playoff contender.
My plan is for Wahama and Trimble to make the initial move. They need to join ranks with Williamstown, and St. Marys. Since this would give the conference three West Virginia teams they need to keep Belpre in due to travel time, and in the hopes that Belpre can regain the tradition they once had. They would also need to keep Waterford or Eastern, whichever agrees first, but not both. That makes a six team conference with three from each state. All six have made playoff appearances and some of them have had multiple wins in the playoffs. If they want a larger conference they could try to convince Fort Frye and Parkersburg Catholic to join which would keep the even numbers of schools from each state, and again both schools have playoff experience and the most importantly bring playoff wins to the table.
This could get rid of the teams that never win a league title, which has to be demoralizing, and leave them to form their own league with each other in which they can be more competitive in. It gets old hearing every year that the same team “is always the favorite till someone steps up and knocks them off.†It will be better for all involved, and give the new conference these teams are in some much needed respect around both states. What do others think?

O and B I can understand your view point, and even respect it though you rarely respect anyone who disagrees with you on here. I am sure you love the status quo of winning championship after championship, and it seems the others in the TVC Ohio don't mind it either, as it is clear no one is going to challenge NY in that conference for ever. That is fine, and I am sure Athens, Alexander, Meigs etc... are really proud of their second and third place trophies. Even though that conference is another that gets little respect around the state. In my opinion this is getting old in the Hocking. So keep "puffing" on what ever it is you are puffing, (per your post), and keep winning those ultra important TVC titles.

Conferences aren't just about football. They are about all sports. Sure, maybe Belpre had a tradition that needs to be rekindled and Trimble has been a force lately plus newcomer Wahama has had a good football history, but what about the success of Eastern in hoops and Southern in baseball. Maybe these schools are comfortable having sub-par football teams when they excel in another sport in the league. Rearranging or reconfiguring just to make a power football conference isn't the answer. It is the responsibility of the lower level teams to take it up a notch and if the same guys win the golden football year in and year out, so be it. Conferences are about all sports, boys and girls, not just for football as some like think.

Hey I appreciate your input. To respond I say let Southern and Eastern have their basketball/baseball conference with FH, SG, etc... Those same teams would then be competing for football titles as well. The schools making the move would be competitive with each other in the other sports as far as I can tell. Keep the responses coming guys. I think we could figure something out here. Either I am full of crap, or this is a good idea worth exploring.XandOs wrote:Conferences aren't just about football. Re: A TVC Hocking Purge
My prediction is that this is the direction the tvc is headed. I see 3 divisions in the future that llok like this:
Ohio
Athens
Warren Local
Vinton Co
Meigs
Nelsonville York
Wellston
Muskingum
Alexander
Federal Hocking
Wahama
Trimble
Belpre
Fort Frye
Hocking
Miller
Southern
Eastern
South Gallia
Waterford
River Valley
These would be competitive divisions.

Re: A TVC Hocking Purge
Well at least Warren might challenge NY ever five or six years. This would also allow Alexander to schedule some of those Hocking teams as non league opponents which seems like the direction they want to head in. This still doesn't do much for the middle conference though as far as competition.meatswinger wrote:My prediction is that this is the direction the tvc is headed. A few things with eliminating some of the schools that still play football from the conference is the opportunity to play for a league title if/when they do have good teams, scheduling because it is nice to have ready made games from the league/less work for the AD, still have exciting rivalry games, even though some of the teams may not compete for league titles, these rivalry games are exciting. Just to name a few.Amarranavajas wrote:Hey I appreciate your input. To respond I say let Southern and Eastern have their basketball/baseball conference with FH, SG, etc... Re: A TVC Hocking Purge
I haven't heard any rumors on FF expressing any interest in leaving the PVC. Their football program has been on the rise the past couple years and their basketball team is pretty much the top of the league and has been for quite some time. Wouldn't make much sense for them to leave that, IMO.
Re: A TVC Hocking Purge
I like this. I hate going to Miller and Trimble. We usually beat Wahama in basketball so I dont mind playing them though. I would like to see Southern, Eastern, FH, SG, and Hannan make r own league if those others want out. Still say Waterford should stay with us, and Belpre is terrible right now so they should stay to but whatever.
Re: A TVC Hocking Purge
XandOs is correct. A conference is about all sports, both boys and girls.
The LKC and any of it's members, Williamstown, St Marys et al, will not let any Ohio schools join nor will they be looking at leaving any time soon. This idea is DOA.
Fort Frye has no interest in leaving the PVC for the TVC or any other conference.
IF the TVC ever goes to 3 divisions, it will be based purely on the boys enrollment figures.
The price of fuel and the continued budget constraints that Ohio schools operate under will cause more changes to TVC membership in the not so distant future.
