No way Portsmouth finishes last in the league unless they have key defections and a loss in confidence in the head coach. I think Logan can finish in the top two, or last. Logan will always have my utmost respect, I believe even if they go through a few sparse years, they will be that sleeping giant in SE Ohio and will never be down for long. Logan is still in a transition mode and could be real good, or real average, and real average with their schedule could be 2-4 wins. Gallia could finish 3rd to last in the conference due to their conference schedule. Warren is the sleeper in this conference. Great Qb, but will they put the weapons and defense around him to create a championship team? Chilli, OH MY CHILLY, Coach Hinton has a wonderful history but Chilly is still transitioning to the Coach Hinton way. Chilly is the 30-1 to win the league, that one might just consider right at post time. Chilly will be, 7-3, or 4-6, if they get stupid confidence, they could be 8-2. They could upset the whole mess this league will be this year, or could be playing spoiler by week seven. Finally, Jackson will be the class of the league this year. They return a stud in Ervin, and a great recruit from the Wellston Rockets. Their defense will be steadfast anchored by the noseguard from last year and a ballsy approach featuring the Bear as their base defense. Honestly, if Jackson does not win the league this year, shame on them, by far the most dominant team in the league. Young teams, P-town, Chilly, earn your stripes, earn experience, your time will come. Logan will be back, so everyone had better take advantage while they can, Warren and Gallia will never allow themselves to be pushovers......Just an observation from a guy up north who does a lot of business in southern OH.

I'm really interested to see what Jackson does this year. Everyone talks about Arthur and Ervin last year and how good Ervin and Osborne are going to be this year. I'm not taking anything away from any of those backs, but the heart and soul of that team last year was the offensive line. They opened huge holes for those guys. It doesn't matter how good Ervin and Osborne are this year if the holes aren't there. I think Jackson's key is how well they replace that line.

I saw Jackson a few times including the Wellston game and I feel confident in saying that if they would've run the power game against Wellston that they shifted to after that loss, they would've beaten Wellston. Arthur was getting decent chunks of yardage in spots against the Rockets, they just wouldn't get out of the spread and feed him the ball consistently.

I'm not completely confident yet, but I feel that GA "could" have the kind of year that Jackson had last year. They return a plethora of big, physical, experienced linemen and if they gel, they could become the kind of unit that Jackson used last year to win the league. Time will tell.

Initial Thoughts on odds:

Jackson 3:1 I'd make them even odds if I was more confident about their O-line. Osborne and Ervin should be a potent combination if they have any holes to run through

Gallia Academy 5:1 They're going to be a good team, but I think they're going to miss having an "elite" skill position player. The big boys in the trenches are going to be more important than ever this year.

Logan 5:1 Logan looked ugly last year, but they have so many kids to choose from, I can't see them being down for long. I think a return to a power game will serve them well as I just didn't see the personnel to run the spread last year.

Chillicothe 8:1 The Cavaliers showed drastic improvement last year and I expect Hinton to turn things around there in short order. However, they lost a ton of talent and I'm just not sure how easily they'll replace it.

Warren 25:1 This program is showing improvement, but I just can't see them competing for a league title yet.

Portsmouth 50:1 Portsmouth seemed to implode from within last year and I just can't see them playing enough D to stop the power teams in the conference.

Portsmouth returns alot of players to the skill positions that were just too young last year,
and Clifford will be more focused this year, as he had something that would distract anyone from the task of coaching as well.

I look for a more disciplined D this year and a wide open O.

GOOD LUCK TROJANS!!!!!!

I think The Trojans will win some games within the conference and possibly spring a big upset along the way. We had a state semifinal basketball team last year and very few of those kids played football a year ago. This year, most of them are out, so I think the SEOAL might be a little surprised at the improvement within the Trojans skilled positions this season. The defense will still have matchup problems at times though.

Agreed! I think its Jackson,Chillicothe, then a toss up Warren, GA,Logan(will be improved),Portsmouth(who in the world ever knows)?
Gallia just lost too many fast skilled people to grad.

First scrimmage results didn't inspire confidence in Chillicothe at all. I'd say it's Jackson and Gallia battling it out.
